Chapter 1-32: Dealing with My Heavy-Drinker Sister
That day, we reached the end of the school day peacefully. Even though the media was still gathered outside the school grounds, the police were there to keep them in check.
The police seemed determined to prevent any excessive coverage of high school students. I appreciated that.
We left the school in a hurry and headed to the bus stop. The reporters were waiting there too, but they didn’t get on the bus.
But it was Friday evening. There might be reporters at the station or around town looking for students in our uniforms too. The teachers also told us to go straight home during homeroom today.
We had talked about going out together in the morning, but now…
“What do you want to do? Should we continue going to the station and hanging out in town?”
“Maybe we should save that for another time. We might get approached by more people.”
“Yeah, you’re right.”
“What about my pudding!?”
“Another time.”
“No way! I want my pudding now! Besides, I think it’s wrong to change our plans just because of the media! It feels like we’re giving in to them—ugh.”
I squeezed his hand to make him quiet down.
“I actually do want to go on a date with you, Yuuma.”
“Alright, let’s go home.”
“Why do you have to be so cold!?”
“The media will calm down by next week. They’re desperate today because it’s their only chance to interview students at our school. If we wait a bit, things will settle.”
It was Friday. Looking back, it had been an intense week since we got caught up in the monster incident on Monday.
I hoped that waiting would actually lead to the media calming down. Walking around town in our uniforms right now wasn’t a good idea.
After getting off the bus and walking Haruka home, I went to the local supermarket with Rafio for some shopping.
Back home, while Rafio cooked dinner, I did my homework and reviewed my lessons. Aina came home during this time, complaining about being tired and wanting to quit her job.
She was carrying a plastic bag full of cans of beer she must have bought on her way back. Her face was slightly flushed, indicating she had already started drinking. Drinking in public, really?
“You drink so much every day, yet you never seem to gain weight.”
“I know, right? Maybe it’s a talent. No sign of fat, especially on my chest. Is there a way to gain weight only in the chest?”
“If there was, everyone would be doing it, wouldn’t they?”
“Absolutely! I aim for a bigger chest. Though, I think my chest might have grown a bit compared to before. Want to see?”
“Stop it. Don’t try to strip at every opportunity.”
I grabbed her hands to stop her from unbuttoning her blouse after she had already taken off her suit. I caught a glimpse of her light pink bra.
“Then, Yuuma, you undress me.”
“Go to your room already.”
“Carry me there.”
“Oh, come on.”
I grabbed Aina’s hand and started dragging her.
“Ah, be gentle with me. But this is kind of fun too. When we get to my room, help me change.”
“Do it yourself. I’ll put the beer in the fridge. Dinner will be ready soon.”
“Rafio, what’s for dinner tonight?”
“Chikuzen-ni. And some boiled nanohana.”
“Sounds delicious! Rafio, you’re amazing! You’re getting better every day, unlike Yuuma who never stops slacking!”
“Shut up.”
“You can’t deny it! Ha-ha!”
“I’ll dump all the beer you bought down the sink.”
“Wait! Please don’t!”
After that exchange, Aina changed into her loungewear and enjoyed the dinner Rafio made, complimenting it and drinking her beer.
“No monsters today, so it was a good day. Maybe the news has calmed down a bit?”
Aina, in a good mood, turned on the TV with the remote.
“I’m actually a magical girl! Yay! And this is the masked boy! We’re dating!”
The interview with Haruka from this morning was being aired.
The media, considerate enough, didn’t show Haruka’s face. But her wheelchair and her voice were enough for Aina to recognize her immediately.
“Are you two dating?”
She reacted exactly as Haruka intended.
“No. We’re not dating. Haruka is just saying that.”
“Really? Really really?”
“Of course. Haruka is just a friend.”
“Hmm.”
Aina gave me a skeptical look.
“Suspicious.”
“I can’t help what you think.”
“Yuuma, you already have me.”
“Don’t compete with my classmates.”
“Do you want Yuuma as your boyfriend, Aina?”
Rafio asked, sounding slightly exasperated. Right, her behavior did suggest that.
“Not just a boyfriend? A husband! We’re almost like that already.”
“Is she serious?”
She had said we were like a married couple yesterday too, but I didn’t think she meant it this seriously.
“I earn the money, and Yuuma does the housework. We’ve been living a half-married life for a while now.”
“There are other family dynamics like that. We’re not actually a married couple.”
“But in the future, Yuuma will take care of me! I won’t let any other girl have him!”
Then she downed her beer from the can in one go.
“Yuuma! More beer.”
“Rafio, I’ll take her to her room. Can you clean up?”
“You’ve got it tough. It’s nice to have multiple girls interested in you, but…”
“One of them is my sister. It’s not a joke.”
I lent Aina my shoulder and took her to her room. Her room was still a mess.
“Yuuma, I love you. Kiss me.”
“We’re siblings.”
“That doesn’t matter! If we love each other, that’s a small obstacle!”
“Even if we love each other. I don’t love you as much as you love me.”
“But a little, right?”
“……”
“You can push me down on the bed if you want.”
“That’s a harsh joke.”
After laying Aina down on her bed, I left the room immediately.
Love each other? Don’t be ridiculous. We’re blood relatives.
Yet you’re the most precious, and only blood relative that I have.
