Chapter 1-19: The Reputation of the Magical Girl
Even after arriving at school, Haruka continued talking about the magical girl. In fact, the whole school was buzzing with this topic, even more than yesterday. Everyone was convinced that the masked man was a student at our school.
We really shouldn’t have fought in our uniforms.
At school, Haruka and I don’t talk much. But I could hear her chatting with her friends about how cute the magical girl was. I had the feeling she was glancing at me now and then.
There were also voices suggesting that the school should support the magical girl and the masked man, even talk of starting a fan club. Of course, there were also those wanting to find the masked man. Give me a break.
The consensus among the students was that while the magical girl Shiny Saber wasn’t well-endowed, she was cute. A male student, known for his infatuation with large breasts, even admitted to liking her, which shocked everyone. Seriously, why?
Several boys declared they’d like to date a girl like her. Were they out of their minds? That’s Aina we’re talking about.
Rafio’s wish for the magical girl to be well-received by people seemed to be coming true, which was good.
However, Rafio wasn’t satisfied with the current situation. He needed to find a new magical girl.
“She wants to become one. Shouldn’t you invite her?” Rafio said, speaking from my pocket as I headed to the cafeteria for lunch.
He was talking about Haruka.
“She’s motivated, has the aptitude, and above all, she’s someone you know. She’s perfect.”
“That’s true, but…”
“Then what are you hesitating about?”
“…”
I couldn’t answer Rafio’s question. I knew it wasn’t fair.
“I see. Well, tell me when you’re ready. I want to respect your wishes too,” Rafio said, not seeming offended, and retreated back into my pocket.
“Yuuma! Let’s go home together!” Haruka called out to me after school.
“Ah, sorry. I have plans today too.”
“Aw.”
I escaped from the classroom, leaving Haruka behind.
“See you tomorrow!” she called after me, making my chest tighten.
“I told you what happened,” I said.
“What, Yuuma, you have such a close girl? Are you dating?” Aina asked.
“That’s not the point.”
Rafio hadn’t given up on recruiting Haruka as a magical girl. I reported the day’s events to Aina during dinner. It wasn’t something I needed to hide, so I let Rafio speak freely.
Tonight’s dinner was ginger pork. Rafio, now dressed as a boy and wearing an apron, cooked while following a recipe on his smartphone. He was getting quite good at it.
Aina was crying tears of joy while drinking beer, enjoying the meal. She seemed only half-listening to Rafio.
However, she did freeze when she heard about the school starting a fan club and the boys switching their preferences from large breasts to small.
She was clearly shocked, not just confused, realizing she too had a small chest. It was a brutal truth she couldn’t ignore.
The world was captivated by this.
Trying to divert from the reality of her chest, Aina seemed more interested in Haruka’s situation.
“So, you help this girl every morning, huh?”
“We’re just friends. Classmates.”
“Well, I won’t allow impure relationships without my approval!”
“I’m not doing that, but why do you get to decide?”
“Because you’re going to support me in the future! You don’t have time for other girls!”
“Yeah, yeah.”
“So, Aina, about the new magical girl,” Rafio interjected.
“Right. Honestly, I do think it’s tough handling everything alone. No monsters today, but it’s hard every day,” Aina admitted.
It sounded like she was planning to leave the fighting to other magical girls on some days.
“I won’t let that happen.”
“As long as both of you agree on who becomes a magical girl, I’m okay with it. I don’t like the idea of little kids fighting, though.”
“Right. I don’t want to bring the fluffy maniac from next door into this either. Absolutely not,” Rafio insisted.
“Rafio really dislikes Tsumugi, huh?” Aina laughed at Rafio’s determined stance.
“Getting everyone to agree is tough. Take your time deciding, young folks!” Aina said cheerfully.
Her good mood was likely due to the improved meals.
By the way, about tomorrow.
“Rafio, I have a suggestion. How about we take an earlier bus tomorrow?”
“Sure, but are you okay with that? I know you want to avoid facing Haruka and talking about the magical girl.”
“Yeah, exactly.”
As expected, he saw through me. It would be troublesome if people found out I was related to the magical girl. And there was plenty of potential for that, mostly because of Rafio.
“I can’t recommend it. Who will help her with her wheelchair if you’re not there?”
“Anyone can do that. The bus driver, other passengers. Besides, if we leave at a different time, we won’t run into Tsumugi either.”
“!! You’re right! You’re thinking about me too, Yuuma! I feel like we can work well together, partner!”
What a convenient change of heart. This made me question my methods. And…
“That means we’d have to wake up earlier, and you’d have to keep banging the frying pan to get Aina up and out of the house earlier too.”
“Which means she’d have to get up early too.”
“No way! Absolutely not! I refuse! I’m all for making Haruka a magical girl right now!”
How shallow.
Getting everyone to agree is indeed challenging.
