The Evening After The Star Festival
Chapter 6.1
There was a girl who looked exactly like Senpai and even had a similar voice.
The atmosphere she carried, the way she looked at me, the slightest movement of her expression, everything was somewhat familiar.
One thing that was very different was the way she called me. And she was slightly shorter than me.
“Erm… Onii-chan… I guess you’re not?”
Her words made my mind, which had been frozen, work frantically.
Why is she here? That doesn’t make any sense. Why is she still alive? And Onii-chan? No, she would never call me that.
That means, of course, this girl is not the same person.
I took a few, deep breaths to calm myself down. Yes, she’s definitely not her. She’s not my Senpai.
“You’re not… It seems you are not her either.”
The girl nodded her head a little.
“Ahm, ermm, my name is Reika Shiki.”
“Rei… ka…”
“Is something wrong?”
My Senpai’s name was Reiko. It was an amazing coincidence that they looked so much alike and their names were one letter difference. She could be her sister? No, she doesn’t have the same last name, so they can’t be. Or maybe they are relatives.
“I’m sorry, it’s nothing… I’m Yu Sawatari.”
“Yu! Your name is Yu? What’s the kanji?”
“Yu from Yu-chou.”
“Too bad. It’s the same reading. But I was surprised.”
“Same reading? Why’re you suprised?”
“Your name is the same as my brother’s. Yu from Yashashi. Sounds the same, right?”
“You mean your brother’s name is the same as mine as well?”
“Then is it the same for me? Senpai you said. With Yu-san’s Senpai?”
“Yeah”
It’s kind of strange to be called Yu-san by a girl who looks exactly like her.
Well yeah! I’m wearing the school uniform, so if this girl is related to her, it wouldn’t be surprising if she realizes who I’m mistaking her for.
The fact that she doesn’t know would mean that she is not related to her. She just looks like her.
“Aren’t you going to make a wish too, Yuu-san?”
“That’s the reason I’m here…”
And then I saw the paper she was holding in her hand.
She must have been trying to tie it to the bamboo branch. On the paper, she had written, “May my brother be happy.”
“Well, he’s gone. That’s why I’m surprised when I saw you.”
“Gone?”
“He’s left.”
“… What?”
My heart thumped loudly in my chest.
It’s not that I didn’t understand the meaning of those words.
It was because I had guessed that my voice leaked out in surprise. I’m not sure if it’s a coincidence, or if it’s fate, or if it’s God playing tricks on me.
“Oh, I’m sorry for saying such something unnecessary.”
“No, it’s okay. I was just a little surprised. I’m sorry if I was rude. After all, the person I mistook you for is already dead.”
“Eh, is that so…?”
She turned her face down, And then,
“I get it. It must be fate.”
Even her smile was similar.
That familiar smile made my heart ache again.
But as soon as my heart started beating fast, Kokoa came to my mind.
Even though I didn’t do anything wrong, I felt a sense of immorality just by talking to this girl. Kokoa came to mind again and after that, I saw my Senpai.
“That’s right, can you tell me your PINE ID? This was such a fateful encounter for me.”
As she clasped my hand, Seeing the person I once loved…
─ I felt scared.
I thought right away.
Why was I scared?
It must be, because the feelings that I was trying to forget, the feelings that I had decided not to look at, are about to flow again.
Why are these feelings…
“You see, Yuu-chan…”
“I-I’m sorry, I didn’t have PINE on my phone.”
I apologized and lied on the spur of the moment.
I didn’t say it because I wanted to, either. It was a reflex.
“Then let’s install it now. It’s very light.”
But the girl did not give up
.
I mean, this girl is really pushy.
She’s like her in this way, too.
“S-sorry about that…! I just remembered something important!”
I turned my back on the girl and left the downtown area running.
“Hey, wait! Yu-san!”
I ignored her voice as I ran back home.
