After a Heartbreak, My Bitter Childhood Friend is now Sweet Like Sugar - V2 Chapter 5.5
"Please support me on Ko-fi! Thank you!"
Chapter 5.5
“Yu, that was really great. Except for the end, though.”
Kokoa concluded.
… Yeah, I agree that the last moment was the stupidest one ever.
To be clear, as soon as I handed over the baton, I fell flat on my face.
I guess I had too much momentum, or maybe I was just too into it… What should have been an awesome race ended as lame as I fell flat. Now I have a lot of scrapes on my hands and feet and was taken to the first aid tent.
“Are you really okay with my team winning this match?”
“No, I’m not. Haaah. I didn’t know that guy was that pathetic. Because of him, we’re in last place.”
“I’m not sure if he deserved it, but it was a serious wound, and it might’ve hurt a lot. Anyway, it was a bummer, though…!”
“Oh god, stop moving, Sawatari-kun. You won today’s race, so you have to be patient!”
The baby-face teacher in charge of the first aid tent urged.
Herushi Hanamori. She is a nurse at our Tsukigaoka High School.
“But you sure got hurt pretty badly. I must praise your talent in being able to injure yourself so much in a relay race.”
“Please don’t remind me of that.”
I think something is definitely wrong with me.
Kokoa chuckled.
“Well, that’s how hard you worked. It seems my cheering did have an effect.”
She said proudly.
Don’t get too carried away.
“Yes, thanks to your cheering and the effort you put on my headband. After seeing your face before the race, I realized that I couldn’t lose. Thank you so much, Kokoa.”
“Wa-wa-wa…?”
Kokoa’s cheeks flushed red like apple candy.
“It’s not fair… Uuu!”
This is what happens when you make fun of me, haha.
Well, I wasn’t lying.
“So, what should Herushi do?”
◆
“Haaah, I’m all beat up!”
It was after the competition ended. We were in the middle of leaving school.
Kasugai sighed loudly.
“I can’t believe our team came last after all the hard work Yucchi put in. Mwah! How did I lose to Kokocchi in the end!?”
“This was the fruit of my daily practice.”
For some reason, Kokoa was very proud of herself.
“Kazamacchi, you heard that. Good grief! You should’ve trained hard.”
“… Damn it. Our team lost because of me… I never saw this coming…”
“No, it’s not your fault. Why are you so upset?”
“You fool. A true man should not blame others.”
No, but what did you even do?
“Hey, hey, are we not stopping anywhere today, damn it. Can we have a meal or something?”
“Pass, pass. I’m tired. I just want to go home, eat and sleep.”
“I’d be so dead that if I wasn’t careful, I might have lost consciousness.”
“I agree. I want to rest as soon as possible.”
“All right. Well then, Kazama and I will go this way. See you two later.”
I waved goodbye to Kasugai and Kazama.
“So, Kokoa, why don’t we go out for dinner tonight? It would be too much work to go home and make dinner…”
“Oh, that reminds me, it was your turn to cook today. Are you so tired from the sports festival that you felt like ditching?”
“Yeah, you can say that.”
“Fufu, okay. Let’s have dinner first, then go home.”
It was indeed the first time I participated in a sports festival so seriously.
In junior high, I participated in a few random events, and there were even a few years when I skipped.
The reason I did so well was undoubtedly because of Kokoa, who was there for me.
“Fuh.”
I couldn’t help but sigh.
“You seem tired, Yu.”
“I wanna sleep.”
For some reason, this exhaustion felt kind of relaxing.
