After a Heartbreak, My Bitter Childhood Friend is now Sweet Like Sugar - V2 Chapter 5.3
"Please support me on Ko-fi! Thank you!"
Chapter 5.3
After homeroom, I received a text from Kokoa.
‘I have some business to attend to, so you should go home by yourself.’
I wondered if she had some kind of work to do. Now that I think about it, Kokoa is a member of the library committee.
Well, since that’s the case, I’ll go home by myself.
Sometimes it’s nice to go alone. Or maybe I should hang out with Kazama. It’s been a while, after all.
But the moment I looked at the seat next to me, Kazama was nowhere to be found. When did he leave?
“Ah, Kazamacchi went to teach Kokocchi some needlework.”
Kasugai came over and told me when I was staring blankly at Kazama’s seat.
“I see, so that’s the business she talked about. But was it okay to tell me that?”
“Ah…!”
Kasugai held out her tongue.
It seems she didn’t know that Kokoa was keeping it a secret from me.
“Pretend you didn’t hear that. Oh, now I get it! If you knew about it, you would have gone with her.”
“Yeah. She probably wanted to learn from Kazama without me knowing. Anyway, I’ll pretend not to know.”
“Sorry, because of my mistake… I see, Yucchi, you’re free, right? Why don’t the two of us walk home together? And Kokocchi will be sewing next to another guy. So I’ll take her childhood friend with me.”
“What kind of netorare title is that?”
“Come on! It will be more fun.”
“All right. It’s not like I have anything to do.”
“Yay, yay.”
So, Kasugai and I, the two of us, are going home together.
Kasugai is also a popular girl among boys. If you were to go home with someone like her, of course, you’re going to stand out in your own way, but I got used to that because of Kokoa, so I wasn’t bothered by it anymore.
Senpai was popular, as well.
“You see, I’ve always thought that I need to have a chat like this once in a while.”
“We talk on a regular basis… We’re together like almost every lunch break.”
“No, that’s how we get along when all four of us are together. But look how different our communication is now that it’s just us.”
That’s true.
I neither have a big circle nor any intention of improving my relationships with others. So no matter who I’m dealing with, I’ll deal with them as if we were strangers.
Kasugai, unlike me, has a wide range of friends. Although she has been hanging out with our group a lot lately, she keeps in touch with the rest of the classmates just like she does with us.
“I need to find out as much as I can about you, Yucchi, so that I can help Kokocchi.”
“What’s that?”
“I want to be there for you when you fight, and you’ll appreciate someone like me helping you make up. In order to do that, I need to gather some information about you. Feel free to think of me as a guardian, looking after the two of you.”
You mean Kokoa and me.
She might be worried about me, but when it comes to observing our relationship, it seems that she is enjoying it.
I guess that’s the reason why she helped us today.
“Now, now tell me, what do you like the most?”
“Isn’t that too straightforward? You’re actually enjoying it.”
“Don’t worry. I’m not.”
It’ll help a lot if you stop enjoying it.
Though she did help us… because of her amusement.
“Well. You two are so in love, so I wouldn’t mind worrying.”
“Please don’t jump to conclusions like that. I didn’t say that I’m in love or anything. I just don’t want to get involved in a relationship.”
“I am me, and Yucchi is Yucchi-tada.”
This girl.
“And it’s not that I hate her, either. I’ve been through a lot, and I still don’t know how to respond to her feelings.”
“I see.”
I’m not sure I’ve sorted out my feelings yet.
The love I lost. Senpai. I feel like I have to move forward, but I’m not confident enough to move on a straight path…
As we were close to the school gate, I noticed a female student getting into a black car parked in front of the school gate.
“Huh…?”
She was like Senpai.
She looked like her.
The car left right after that.
The next thing I knew, I stopped walking and watched in disbelief as the car disappeared.
“What happened, Yucchi? Did you see someone you know in that car?”
“… No, it’s nothing.”
It was probably because of the conversation I had with Kasugai.
I mistook that girl who had a haircut and height similar to her.
It seems that I am still reeling about her.
“Let’s move on.”
“Good luck and keep going.”
Kasugai nodded in satisfaction as I strengthened my resolve.
