What Fall?

“Speaking of fall…”

…what’s wrong? The expression on Kisaragi’s face which was really bright, darkens when she started talking.

Then when she said the word ‘fall’ she turned her head down.

What did she want to talk about that she looks troubled like that.

“What about fall?”

“It’s nothing.”

“I’m sure you were about to say something.”

“I thought Hokuto-san will definitely say ‘fall is a season for reading’. That’s just really boring.”

“…stop it.”

I can’t say much about it because fall is actually a great season for reading.

“I mean for Hokuto-san, isn’t fall like a season-round reading day?”

“Well, yeah that’s true. But it’s not like I will read like crazy just because it’s fall.”

“I knew it.”

I will read or not read depending on my mood and physical condition of that day, on top of it, my passion for reading doesn’t change depending on the season.

I always want to read interesting books that have fascinating stories in it.

“Ah, but I always have a hard time finishing them.”

“That’s your bad habit.”

“I guess so.”

“I heard that it’s better to judge a book by it’s cover, because they say, books that have an interesting cover are usually good.”

I’ve heard about it before, and I’ve done it as well.

However it just doesn’t work that way.

“Books are bound to its cover.”

“Huh.”

“You know what I mean?”

“I don’t really understand, but I do understand Hokuto-san’s passion for books.”

“I’m glad to hear that. So, what kind of season fall is for Kisaragi?”

She stares into the distance while thinking about it. Then she eventually tilts her head and our eyes meets.

“What kind of season fall is for me?”

“You have no idea yourself, don’t you?”

“It’s a topic I started talking suddenly just because it’s fall, so I wasn’t thinking about it myself. Fall, fall… what kind of season fall is for me?”

Her gesture of tilting her head is as cute as ever. I can’t help but to laugh at her reaction.

“What are you laughing about?”

She asked so while pouting her lips. Even the way she expresses her irritation is really adorable.

Ahh, I really love Kisaragi.

“Let’s find it out then.”

I stand up and reach out to her. She takes my hand and stands up as well.

“Find it out?”

“Yeah, let’s find out what kind of season fall is for Kisaragi.”

“It’s already pretty dark outside.”

“Then that means we will be able to see the stars soon. The sky has become clearer because of the cold weather, so we can see the beautiful starry sky, can’t we?”

“Autumn starry sky, is it beautiful?”

“Yeah, really beautiful.”

I grab the hand I’m holding and head straight out.

The air feels cold, I put one hand in my pocket and another holding her small, soft, and warm hand.
