She is Reading My Thoughts Again Today - Chapter 72
Dive Caution
“Of all the thoughts you’ve heard, which one left the worst impression on you?”
“Are you really asking me that? You’re the worst.”
I was just wondering about it, but her sharp gaze made me not to ask it any further.
“…sorry about that.”
“Yeah.”

It’s the sea. There is no one here because it is already late September and the air is getting colder at this time of year. The cold sea breeze blows Kisaragi’s long hair.
“Hokuto-san’s hair is also blowing in the sea breeze.”
“Is that so.”
That’s right, if I don’t cut my hair soon, I will be reprimanded by the teachers at the next inspection.
No, that’s not it. We shouldn’t talk about it right now.
“So why are we at the beach now?”
Kisaragi and I are standing in the middle of the beach. The sky is grey, and the sea seems to have a somewhat dark colour. Today’s weather isn’t exactly the kind of weather that makes you want to go to the beach.
“Wouldn’t it be better to come here in summer instead of in this cold weather right now? You do realize it’s early autumn right now, right?”
Even though it would be somewhat dangerous, she could’ve swum in any direction she wants if we go here in summer.
“Why are we at the beach at this time of year?”
She stands still in silence.
“Hey.”
She didn’t say anything back to me and rushed off abruptly. As she approaches the shore, she squats down and let the seawater splash against her. Each time the wave hits her toes, splashes of water can be seen at her legs. She could do this in a swimming pool, but we are not at a swimming pool right now, and the seawater is very cold at this time of year. Her hands are probably getting cold. Even so, she continued to play with the water for a while.
She must’ve gotten bored eventually. She stands up, look back at me and says.
“It’s cold.”
“Of course it is. Are you done? Let’s get a hot drink and go home now.”
“Yeah.”

“Kisaragi!!”
she had already thrown her bag when I yelled. The next thing I hear is the sound of her jumping into the river. I literally almost lost my breath there. While the other kids and I are stunned, she is pulling the drowning boy by the hand to the shore, they both are soaking wet. The other kids are worried about their friend, but is seems that he is fine, perhaps it’s because Kisaragi had acted so quickly.
“Here.”
I took out a towel from my backpack and hand it to the two of them.
“You seem very prepared.”
“It’s hot enough to make me sweat all day.”
I never thought it would be used for anything other than wiping sweat off my face. Kisaragi who had finished wiping her face, asks the boy.
“Boy, is your house close by? Is your father or mother home?”
The boy nods as he hands the towel back to me. He is still very wet, so I wiped him off relentlessly because I don’t want him to catch a cold. Then the boy bursts into laughter.
“Thanks a lot, onee-chan.”
Both me and Kisaragi look at each other and chuckle at the word ‘onee-chan’. Well it would be appropriate for them to call Kisaragi ‘onee-chan’ after all.
“Go home, take a bath, and warm yourself up, okay? And go home early you two, don’t stop by anywhere else.”
The boys nod in unison, thank her cheerfully, and head home. I look at Kisaragi’s face as she gazes the boys heading home in satisfaction.
“You even talk formally to kids.”
“Yeah, well…”
“Don’t just jump in like that. It’s dangerous.”
“I would have thought about it if I was alone, but Hokuto-san was there with me.”
“I can’t help you either.”
“It’s okay. Hokuto-san will do something if something were to happen.”
The look on her eyes is so serious that I can’t help but to nod with her words.
