She is Reading My Thoughts Again Today - Chapter 66
Repeating Day
“We still have to go to school on Christmas, don’t we?”
Kisaragi muttered as she stares at her December schedule. The closing ceremony will be held on the 27th of December. Christmas will fall on a weekday this year which means that we still have to go to school as usual. I think we will have to clean our classes on that day, but the time for us to go to school and go home will remain the same. It will be a perfectly normal day.
“So, what are we going to do? We can do our date on Saturday or Sunday during the winter break.”
“Uniform Date.”
She muttered happily to herself.
“It would increase the possibility of us being reported to our school for inappropriate behaviour.”
Her excitement which had been rising, suddenly dropped. The way she looks at me gradually becomes more and more stern.
“To what extent is considered inappropriate behaviour?”
“It depends, the other day at the school assembly, the life guidance teacher said that holding hands and going home together can create a misunderstanding, so let’s not do it.”
“I didn’t hear anything about that.”
“You should listen to what they say at the school assembly.”
“How in the world can that create a misunderstanding?”
“I don’t know either, however going on a date in our uniforms can be risky.”
“But we have walked home together many times, so I guess it’s too late now?”
Come to think of it, we had indeed walked home together many times, but we didn’t hold hands or anything like that, it’s just a couple of students walking their way home together.
“It’s Christmas, everyone must be in high spirits. It’s okay for us to be in high spirits as well, right?”
I can’t nod my head when I’m being told a theory I don’t understand. She grabs my reluctant hand and start to swing it around. It doesn’t actually hurt, but I honestly want her to stop doing it. While I think about it, she let go of my hand after a big swing.
“Then at least let’s exchange presents!”
“That’s just you wanting your present right?”
“We’ll be exchanging presents. It’s not one-sided, so it’s safe.”
“Safe…?”
It seems that she really wants a present.
“Yeah sure, but don’t worry about it. You should expect a present from me after all, right?”
While I look at her confidently, I feel surprised. She doesn’t seem to think about the present for herself at all.
“I’m surprised, Christmas is all about presents, right?”
“It’s been a long time since I got a present from Santa.”
“Did you figure out who Santa really is early?”
“That’s how it is.”
When I was little, I heard that Santa isn’t actually real, so I secretly snooped into my parent’s wallet and found a receipt for my Christmas presents. I asked my parents about it and they honestly explained it all to me. Since then, Christmas has been a day when I receive cash directly from my parents.
“It’s pretty much the same for me.”
“But still, it’s a Christmas present, right?”
“Do you know those big Christmas promotions on the streets?”
“Don’t worry. I hardly ever go out on holidays.”
“That is not making me not worry.”
I will pretend I didn’t hear her whisper to herself ‘I have to take him out somewhere during the winter break’. Well, she will take me out somewhere anyway, but I’ll just pretend I didn’t hear it for now.
“So then, are we going to see the Christmas lights in our uniform?”
Her face lights up.
“Let’s go then. The street with stationery shops near here will be nicely illuminated in Christmas lights.”
“Christmas lights…”
“Christmas lights, Christmas lights, Christmas lights, Christmas lights, Christmas lights…”
“Don’t keep repeating it over and over again.”
