She is Reading My Thoughts Again Today - Chapter 42
Praying Day
I saw Nao Kisaragi got confessed. He is the president of the public moral committee who has a great reputation for being a good person. He is a senior in the third grade. Even I who doesn’t know a lot of people heard his name before, and I can clearly remember the bright smile on his face every morning when he greets people. They say that cultural festival is an event that brings people together, but I never thought that Nao Kisaragi would be confessed in this cultural festival. My body instantly moved at its own and left them. Then I sit on a chair in front of a vending machine and ask myself why do I feel so guilty. I don’t know why but I can’t stop breathing heavily after I saw her got confessed. No, I don’t think it’s guilt, but it’s surely something that doesn’t feel pleasant. The sight of Nao Kisaragi being confessed keeps coming back to my mind, I can’t stop thinking about it. I couldn’t see his face when he confessed to Kisaragi, but from his voice I can tell that he was terribly nervous. On the other hand, Kisaragi didn’t have any expression on her face. Was she not interested? Or was she just simply surprised? I only looked at her face in a split second, I can’t tell for sure.
I wonder what her response was. I’d like to avoid thinking about that when I’m in front of her. But I’m sure she will show up in times like this…
“That’s right. You know me very well.”
Although I had expected she would show up, my shoulders shook as if I didn’t expect her to actually show up. When I turn around, I see Kisaragi who is buying something from the vending machine.
“Sometimes I wonder if Hokuto-san is better at reading thoughts than I am.”
It appears that she bought a strawberry milk. I’m impressed that she bought something not Tangerine flavour.
No, that’s not the important matter right now.
“More importantly, what are you doing in a place like this?”
Apparently, she can’t read my thoughts because of the distance between us or something. Okay, great.
“Nothing much, I was just going to buy some juice.”
“I refused his confession.”
She read my thoughts.
“Why?”
“The reason why I read your thoughts? Or the reason I turned him down?”
“…the reason you read my thoughts.”
“The more you don’t want to think about something, the more you will unconsciously think about it. It’s just something we can’t control.”
She sits down a little further than me and she pokes the straw into her strawberry milk. Her expression seems to brighten than before.
“No wonder you saw it. That place is in the shadows but there are a lot of people passing by there.”
“…yeah right.”
I lean my back on the chair and sigh deeply. My heart is throbbing loudly, but the indescribable unpleasant feeling on my chest is gone.
“It’s going to be more problematic if anyone other than Hokuto-san saw it. He is a good person, and me rejecting his feelings might make me the target of an attack.”
“You won’t be a target of an attack.”
“What makes you think that way?”
“Because if you are, I’ll take care of it.”
“That’s reassuring.”
After a brief moment, I look at her face and finally understand what I had just said. She has a very happy smirk on her face. I’ve never seen her in such a happy expression before.
“Nope, I’m taking back what I said.”
“You’ve already said it, so please take responsibility.”
I can only pray that nothing would happen to her as she began to laugh out loud.
