She is Reading My Thoughts Again Today - Chapter 21
Rainy Day
I’m surprised when I returned my consciousness from the book to reality. It’s raining really hard and it seems that the rain started pouring down while I was absorbed into the book I was reading. Although there is still some time before the school hours is over, but I wonder if it would stop by then.
“You don’t like the rain?”
Kisaragi, who seems to have been in front of me the whole time, asks me a question. It seems that she is reading a book, there is a famous horror book on her desk. She seemed to like horror genre books.
“Do you think it’s going to stop?”
“Don’t answer a question with a question.”
“Well, I don’t know about it.”
It doesn’t actually matter if I like the rain or not.
“You’re very optimistic.”
“So, do you think it’s going to stop?”
“I don’t know. I haven’t looked at the weather forecast yet.”
“Yeah, me too.”
“Either way, I guess I won’t be taking my book home with me today.”
“With Hokuto-san’s backpack, even the things inside the backpack would get wet.”
“I’ve got a towel in there, but I’m not going to risk my books get wet, let alone my textbooks.”
It was not a good idea to buy a backpack based on its design. I have wet my books once before, and I won’t make the same mistake twice. For today, I’ll just pass time with other entertainment than books.
“You know…”
“What?”
“Do you have an umbrella?”
“I have it.”
“Do you have two of them?”
Her voice is so small that I almost can’t hear what she said because of the sound of the rain. But she certainly said so.
“I have it, you can unfold it right?”
“Thanks for your help.”
“I don’t need it.”
Unlike the bread from the other day, umbrellas don’t run out after one use. Besides she lends it to me because she has an extra one, it’s not like she went out of her way to lend me one. So, it is not something that requires a thank you.
“That’s not how it works.”
“Then I want you to read a book I recommend.”
“Which one?”
So, I get up and take a book from the bookshelf.
“This one.”
I’m holding the book standing on the desk so that she can see the cover.
“It’s a mystery genre book. It is a series and there are seven volumes so far. The thickness of the book may make you wonder ‘Will I be able to read it?’ but don’t worry about it. The storytelling style is very unique and the characters has really strong personalities that make you can’t stop reading, you will finish an entire volume before you know it. I would like you to try reading at least the first volume.”
There are other things I want to say, but if I get too excited, it will become a nuisance. I thought I can talk about the book in detail another time, so in the time being, I held the book out for her.
“That’s great.”
From the look in her eyes, she seems very impressed. But her gaze isn’t on the book, but on me.
“What’s so great?”
“Hokuto-san’s eyes become alive.”
“You sound like as if my eyes usually look dead.”
“Your eyes usually look dead.”
“…really?”
“It’s true.”
“Is that so…”
I don’t want to believe it’s true, but if she says so, it must be true.
