She is Reading My Thoughts Again Today - Chapter 17
Gummy Day
It has been a long time since I stayed in the classroom after the school ends. In front of me is Kisaragi, who is throwing three tangerine gummies into her mouth at once. She is staring at me; she seems to be waiting for me to talk. I’m sure she is reading my thoughts right now. It’s as if I’m being urged to talk about it. Then she nodded deeply. Well, if she asks me to, I have no choice but to talk about it.
“I heard the whole story about what happened when you were in the fifth grade.”
“I remember. It brings back memories”
As she said, it really brings back memories for her. Her somewhat calm expression skips over me and stares at the window.
“It is no exaggeration to say that that was the only moment in my life when this ability came in handy.”
Eventually her mouth stopped moving, she seemed to have stopped eating them. Her eyes, which had been looking at the window, turned towards me. Then I looked into her eyes and continued our conversation.
“I’ve had a lot on my mind this past week.”
“Yeah.”
“In conclusion, it would be impossible for me to change the current situation.”
Whether someone believe the rumor or not, the rumor has been widespread and there is no way of changing it. Because of it, she is definitely being avoided. When I told her not to avoid the conversation, the only thing that changed is the way she looks at me.
“Above all, it would be foolish of me to try to change the current situation if you have no intention of changing it.”
“Yes. It is foolish.”
“I mean, I just forced my way into your past.”
“That’s right.”
I apologize for that. I didn’t say it out loud, but I’m sure she can hear me anyway. Well, it’s not wrong to say I’m sorry. I’m so used to her stare that it doesn’t bother me anymore.
“So, I have one question.”
“What is it?”
“Why did you get up then?”
Her eyes begin to glow as if she was saying ‘I knew you’d ask that, I’ve been waiting for it.’ Her aggressive stare just now seems to be a lie.
“It’s that simple. Guess what my favourite food is.”
To give me a hint, she took a pack of tangerine gummies and held it in front of me. Her fingertips pointed at the fruit on the package.
“…tangerines.”
That day the school lunch has tangerines.
“That’s right, tangerines. Usually, I don’t want to have the school lunch, but that day they offered some tangerines. Therefore, I thought that I need to have lunch that day. Everyone in my class just accepted the fact that we weren’t going to have a lunch that day. I was surprised.”
Those words were thrown to me with a cheerful energy. She was laughing and her eyes were shining. Yup, I could tell she hated herself that couldn’t stand to be in love with tangerines.
“You’re just that kind of person.”
No. Most circumstances that people have to deal with is just too trivial, so they don’t need to bother it. As I was thinking of that, I was stunned by the second bag of gummies that came out of her bag.
“Just go home and eat them.”
“If you want some, just say so.”
“I don’t want them.”
