Chapter 16 – The Protagonist Attacks
The moment we arrived at the school gate, the idiot protagonist suddenly turned on his heels and came towards us.
Then, he glared at me with a ferocious expression and shouted in an angry voice.
“Get away from Maika and Iroha-senpai.”
“E-eh, what’s wrong, Rakkun?”
“That’s right, boy. You’ve got a scary face.” (T/N: Iroha calls Rakuto shonnen, so I’ll just use “boy”)
Maika and Iroha seemed surprised by this too, looking perplexed and taken aback.
“Did I do something to offend you?”
“Did you do something?! Are you seriously asking that?!”
I was more confused than annoyed by his sudden confrontative attitude, and couldn’t respond immediately.
So confused that right now, I must look like a complete idiot.
“You’ve been casually following behind us like it’s nothing, but what do you even want?”
“Well, isn’t it obvious? We’re heading in the same direction.”
That’s really the only answer I can come up with.
What is this guy trying to say? I honestly don’t know.
But wait a sec… Now that I think about it, he only reacted like this after we stepped through the school gate, like something suddenly switched inside him.
“Ah, so that’s what’s going on.”
“W-what do you mean?”
I finally understood why he attacked me and I blurted it out loud.
“Nah, don’t worry about it. So? What exactly do you want me to do?”
“I told you to stay away from Maika and Iroha-senpai!”
“Sorry, but I still don’t get why.”
“You’re Kirishima Ryoji, aren’t you?”
“Yeah, I am.”
“You’re known for being rude, slacking off, and a womanizer. A guy like you shouldn’t go near Maika or Iroha-senpai.”
As expected.
I also had a pretty good idea why this guy suddenly stopped chatting with his childhood friends and turned his attention toward me.
It was because the scene of “We had a fun conversation until we arrived at school” had ended.
Freed from the game’s system and able to move of his own free will, the protagonist must have been wary of the lowlife-delinquent walking confidently with his childhood friend and a senior.
“Hey, Rakkun. That’s a bit rude. Sure, Kirishima-kun is violent, a slacker, and a total womanizer, but——!”
“Yeah, that’s true. It’s true that he doesn’t come to school often, he has a scary face, and he makes a lot of girls cry, but still——”
Oi, you two aren’t helping at all.
“At the very least, it’s still rude of Rakkun to say something like that when he doesn’t know Kirishima-kun that well. We’re old friends, and we were just catching up.”
“I-Is that so? What about Iroha-senpai?”
“Ryo-kun and I are childhood friends. Sure, everything you said about him isn’t exactly wrong, but no matter who you are, I’d still be pissed if you badmouthed my childhood friend like that.”
Iroha was completely different from the game event up until now, and she criticized the protagonist with a cold, distant, angry voice and expression.
“What’s wrong with you two? Are you on his side?”
“It’s not about taking sides. I’m just criticizing you for saying something rude.”
Iroha delivered her argument in a calm, logical tone.
According to [Telepathy], Iroha is really angry.
Well, I guess it’s normal to get angry when someone bad mouths your boyfriend for no reason.
Thinking about it, I felt a little happy.
Maika is angry too, but…her emotions are a little more complicated.
She doesn’t seem to understand why she’s angry for me, for Kirishima’s sake.
“Don’t worry about it. It’s all true, after all. Nothing he said was wrong.”
“Huh?”
“You’d better go now, Miyasaka. Your childhood friend looks confused as hell. What about you, Iroha?”
“Obviously, I’m staying with Ryo-kun.”
That’s a nice thing to say.
Even though Iroha and I are childhood friends, I thought she’d have a bond with the protagonist as a sub-heroine in the game, but it seems the depth of yesterday’s brainwashing has paid off.
But even though she’s brainwashed, Iroha’s fundamental way of thinking hasn’t changed.
She liked me even before I brainwashed her, and we had sex over a dozen times yesterday.
Our bond should have deepened.
Maybe that’s why she prioritized her real childhood friend over her best friend Hatsune’s childhood friend.
“But Kirishima-kun…”
“I don’t mind. Kouma, was it? Look, I’m not gonna harm your childhood friends, and everything you said about me was true, so I get why you’d be worried.”
“W-what the hell’s that supposed to mean?”
“I’m just childhood friends with Iroha, and we live close to each other. I have no intention of breaking into your circle, so don’t worry.”
In the end, you’ll be the only one left in your circle…
Can you even call it a “circle” at that point? (T/N: Dem…)
“W-what did you say?!”
“Lacto, stop it already.”
“Um, well… I don’t think what you just said was right, Raku-kun.”
“Onii-chan… Apologize… okay?”
“…Tch. Fine, my bad.”
“It’s fine, I don’t mind.”
The protagonist clicked his tongue. But I’m sure the heroines’ affections for him are dropping significantly.
It remains to be seen how much of an impact this will have on the game system.

T/N: You know, in a way the protagonist is not afraid to go against the delinquent Ryoji, but hey, he’s not this novel’s protagonist…
