The boy runs.

His breath is getting heavier, his lungs hurt.

He crosses the tree in front of him, dodging it easily.

The boy now has escaped into the forest.

While desperately running, the boy thought to himself.

It was not until nightfall that the boy noticed something unusual.

Indeed, for the past week, there have been meetings and events for nobles in the nearby city, Lyon. Sometimes, the boy sees one of the nobles’ daughter visiting the village…but other than that, everything had been normal, just like any other day.

And then, when night falls…the villagers bid farewell to the noble’s daughter, Iris, who decided to return to her territory earlier than planned. Shortly after she left, a strange group appeared at the village just as the villagers were about to go to sleep.

—men in black robes, each armed with swords.

The group quietly surrounded the village, without exchanging a single word.

Clearly, they are no ordinary people.

The boy’s father, the first one to sense that there is something not right with those men, told the boy,

“Run! Run as fast as you can!”

He doesn’t know if it was the right decision to leave his parents or not, however he decides to listen to his father’s words and run as fast as he can to the forest behind the village.

At that moment, the boy bolted away like a hare.

He barely made it into the woods before the village got surrounded.

When he glances back to the village for the last time, all he can see was red flames everywhere.

Some people seem to have fled the village in different directions.

However, most of the villagers, including the boy’s parents, are unable to escape.

The fear that his parents, or even the entire village might be in danger overwhelmed the boy.

For some reason, the boy keeps running through the forest, screaming for help.

That’s right, in the original story, the boy is supposed to be on of the few survivors of Haven village incident, then he will live the rest of his life with regret, always thinking what he could’ve done differently.

Suddenly, the boy bumps into something in front of him when he looks back to check if there are bandits or thieves chasing after him.

“Ugh…!”

The boy falls into the ground.

At the same time, a voice exclaims,

A voice?

A voice means…there is a person in front of me!

The boy says so as he picks himself up from the ground.

Matthew is desperate, he doesn’t care who it is, he just wants someone to save him and the village.

Matthew → The handsome son of the chief of Haven Village. A boy with messy hair. Originally in the story, he lives his life full of regret, but his fate begins to change when he coincidentally meets Enrique in the forest.

Suspicious Looking Man → Enrique. While his face is not bad looking, he often gets called ‘scruffy’ because he doesn’t seem to care much about his appearance. Due to this reason, the protagonist thought that he must be a former F-rank adventurer.
