- Chapter 1 - I Just Don’t Like This Character
I Just Don’t Like This Character
“What is this appearance…”
I can’t help but to utter those words.
In front of the large mirror, an appearance of a small child dressed in well-tailored clothes is reflected.
However, his eyes clearly show his scummy character.
In other words, an arrogant little brat.
I can’t possibly look like this.
But as I look at the appearance reflected in front of me, I suddenly remember.
“Could it be…”
No, it can’t be true, don’t tell me—
This appearance, without a doubt…
“Scumtos!!!”
My scream echoes throughout the room.
Randall Ultos.
As the legitimate son of the Duke of Randall, he possesses immense power within the kingdom.
He is the villainous aristocrat in an adult romance game commonly known as “Scumtos”.
Furthermore, Scumtos’s unpopularity is off the charts.
To put it simply, Scumtos is an annoying villainous aristocrat.
He is a middle-stage boss in the game.
Scumtos, who looks like an ugly fat pig, envies the handsome protagonist who just enrolled in the magic academy, and harasses him in various ways.
If that was all there is to it, Scumtos would just be an ordinary villain.
However, Scumtos didn’t stop there.
In the story, one of the heroines suffers from the trauma of losing her mother when she was young, and the cause of it is none other than Scumtos himself.
Scumtos is an ugly character who always makes all the big breasted heroines, who is loved by all the players, cry.
On top of that, he always tries to get in the protagonist’s way.
Furthermore, he calls himself by ‘Boku-chin’ and he laughs in a very annoying way, ‘Gufufufufu’ making his character very unpopular and hated among the players.
(TN: ‘Boku-chin’ is a cutesy and informal way of referring to oneself in Japanese.)
Who in the world would like such a character?
In an interview with the development team, the game’s development team themselves said,
‘We truly hate this character as well.’
In numerous of doujinshi and fan creation stories, the story always ends with the main protagonist beats Scumtos to a pulp in a bloodbath and live with the heroines happily ever after.
(TN: Douojinshi is self-published print works, such as magazines, manga, and novels.)
There are a lot of comments for Scumtos such as,
‘That’s what that scumbag deserves, lol’
‘Die already lol.’
And so on…
That’s right, the story doesn’t end there.
While other mid-stage bosses will eventually make amends with the protagonist or even join the party as the game progresses, in Scumtos’ case, perhaps because his nature is just truly despicable, there wasn’t even a reconciliation event happened between Scumtos and the protagonist in the game.
This is a total mess, isn’t it?
In the game, Scumtos’ ultimate fate is to be manipulated by the mastermind, who is the main antagonist, and die a tragic death.
Despite being born into the prestigious Randall Ducal family, he ends up being treated like a rag by the protagonist who is a commoner in the game.
By the way, even when Scumtos dies, the protagonist didn’t even show any sympathy for him.
“Wait a minute, how old am I?”
I may already look like a scum, but I am not that overweight yet.
If you look at my appearance, I don’t actually look that bad.
I gaze straight into the mirror.
About 8 or 9 years old, I suppose?
At this age, the young Scumtos just realized that he has magical talent and begin to get really excited about it.
He wants all of the women’s attention he can get, behaves selfishly, doesn’t study magic, and doesn’t even bother to train with a sword.
As he lives such a careless life, he eventually will be beaten to a pulp by the protagonist in the game’s storyline.
But—
I still can change the future, right?
I ask myself so in front of the mirror.
After thinking about it, the solution seems rather simple.
In short, I just need to avoid all of the Scum moves that Scumtos does in the main storyline.
By doing so, I’m sure that I can avoid my tragic end.
Certainly, I want to experience romance, but I don’t want to create a harem of beautiful girls like Scumtos planned to do in the story.
I prefer pure love.
That’s right, in other words, I just need to live a serious and modest life.
I will have to train and study hard.
Also, I should avoid getting close to the protagonist’s party.
I want to be the kind of common mob in the final episode who applauds around the protagonist’s party.
“All right.”
I’ve decided.
I clench my fist and once again gaze into the mirror.
Scumtos.
I’m sorry, but I’m going to live a serious and modest life from now on, I will not have my fate decided for me.
Well, I guess I’m not that different from Scumtos myself, since I’m only thinking of my own survival…
Oh well…
However—
“Ultos-sama, I’m terribly sorry, have I caused you trouble? I apologize, please just let me continue to work, I have a family to support…”
I’m at a loss for words when I look at the trembling maid apologizes before me.
I’m too naïve.
I never thought that Scumtos would be such a scumbag.
“I’m sorry, I’m truly sorry.”
The maid says so as her whole body continues to tremble.
“……”
I can only remain silent with a dumbfounded look on my face.
Hey Scumtos…
You little brat…don’t you think you’ve done too far!?
