Chapter 6: Let’s Repair the House

“This is…This is a ruin, huh?”

“Don’t call it a ruin. It’s my house.”

Etna shot back at her.

The muscular big-sister type adventurer called Aisha, the one who agreed to work for me, had come to check on where I was sleeping out of concern. But that was the first thing out of her mouth.

Pointing at Etna’s house, Aisha explained.

“The roof is one thing, but the crumbling walls are the real problem. You’re completely exposed from outside, anyone can just walk right in. If a man sleeps in a place like this, he’ll get snatched away in the middle of the night.”

“Ugh… Well, yeah. I know it’s inconvenient, but still!”

Etna faltered. She had a point. That said, even if I knew it was dangerous, we weren’t carpenters. There was nothing we could do about it.

“Aisha-onee-chan. What should we do?”

Pirika asked nervously. Seeing the anxious look on the honest nine-year-old’s face, Aisha’s expression softened.

Maybe she actually likes kids more than she lets on.

“Leave it to me. I’m good with earth magic”

Saying that, Aisha placed her hand on the ground beneath the collapsed wall.

“Stone Wall!”

With her chant, the earth rose up, turning into stone and forming a huge wall. It didn’t reach all the way to the ceiling, but in no time the wall had been repaired. Looking smug, Aisha declared.

“I’m Aisha the ‘Barrier.’ Defensive earth magic is my specialty. As long as I’m full and have stamina, this much is nothing!”

“Aisha-onee-chan, you’re amazing!”

Pirika cheered, and the burly adventurer puffed out her chest proudly.

Incredible. So this is magic. 

She probably used her ability to build barriers to block enemy attacks or cut off their path, making battles more favorable for her. 

Adventurers really are amazing.

“That’s awesome! Aisha-neechan, teach me magic and swordplay too!”

“Sure thing. After all, you’ve gotta be able to protect your sister and Kaito!”

Aisha gladly accepted Etna’s request. At any rate, now we could sleep safely at night thanks to her. As for the broken roof… I guessed we could buy some corrugated metal and a blue tarp later to cover it up.

“As long as Kaito’s food supply keeps reaching us, I think the city ruined by ‘Magic Rampage’ will eventually start recovering. Until then, make do with my walls.”

“Thank you!”

Etna and Pirika thanked Aisha together. I also voiced my gratitude to her.

“Thanks, that helps a lot. Is there anything you want? Just say the word.”

“Then, gyoza, hamburgers, and… Can I get some cola too?”

I operated the internet mall and ordered exactly what she asked for. Twelve servings of gyoza, five hamburger sets, two two-liter bottles of cola… Yeah, no way she could carry all that by hand. So I bought a box-shaped backpack, the kind mountaineers could use.

When I explained how to use it, Aisha was amazed by its design and durability.

“What is this thing?! Both my hands are free, and yet it’s so easy to carry! In fact, it’s like I’m not carrying anything at all!”

No, no, there’s about five kilos of stuff in there. Sure it feels lighter, but thinking it’s weightless… That’s just because she’s so strong.

“You can keep that backpack too. Use it for daily stuff. It can hold about four times that weight.”

“For real? Thanks! This makes me wanna do my job as your guard even more!”

Aisha left happily. Apparently her house was nearby too. This seemed to be a commoner’s district, with rows of houses belonging to families like hers. That explained why so many residents had shown up when we started sharing food.

Farther away, there was apparently an inn district with eateries, but thanks to the famine, most were effectively shut down. No surprise there, since there was no food to serve. If I kept providing meals through my internet mall, the city’s restaurants would probably all go bankrupt.

But Etna told me this wasn’t the time to worry about that. I just needed to distribute food as much as possible. There was also, apparently, a small noble quarter including the lord’s manor, but she said it was better to avoid going there.

Yeah, nobles sound like trouble. They’d just target me and use me to their advantages.

After all that, when I went back inside the house, I purchased a blue tarp and some corrugated metal. Home improvement stores really were convenient. The blue tarp was the type with cords at all four corners, so I also bought vinyl cords, and managed to cover the roof with it.

The corrugated metal already had screw holes, so I tied cords there and connected it with the tarp. I placed some stones on top as weights, and the temporary roof fixing was done. That should keep out the wind and rain for now.

“Thanks, Etna. Thanks to you, I think I can sleep peacefully tonight.”

“Climbing up on the roof is easy. I may be young, but leave the heavy work to me!”

Etna grinned proudly.

Women in this world sure are impressive. 

She was as agile as an experienced construction worker.

“Well then, let’s pitch the tent, Nii-chan.”

Why, though? I could guess what she wanted, but still.

“I mean, Pirika is here, you know? Being seen is kinda embarrassing…”

“Onee-chan, it’s not fair! I wanna watch it too!”

Pirika playfully smacked Etna. It looked wholesome enough, but… This wasn’t the kind of thing kids their age should be talking about, was it?

“…We don’t have to do it every night, you know. How about we just sleep quietly tonight?”

When I suggested that, Etna looked like her world had ended.

Come on, it’s not that bad.

“Ni-Nii-chan…Am I not good enough? Do you want someone older, more reliable… Like Aisha-neechan?”

“Is that what you were worried about?!”

Did she think Aisha showed up and would steal me away? Steal me? I was never anyone’s property to begin with. Still, I guessed I couldn’t really blame her. I was her first, after all. I had to tell her properly, that I didn’t hate her.

“It’s not that I dislike you two. So relax.”

“Then…Then, tonight too, please”

This girl… She’s hopeless.

She’d gotten a taste of pleasure, and now that was all she could think about. It might’ve been normal for a middle school boy to act like that, but Etna was a girl. Was it okay for her to be squirming with her thighs wet like this?

Then again, even back in Japan, some girls had their sexual awakening early. Maybe it was natural to be curious.

“…Alright, alright. But only a little. And I’m using protection.”

“Yeah! Just a little, just a little, okay…!”

I really was weak when someone begged like that. Etna was starting to look more like a dirty old man than an ordinary girl.
