ーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーーー
To cut to the conclusion, I was imprisoned by the knight order for ten days straight. And when I finally came out, I was drained dry by Etna, Aisha, and Syldra, who had been forced to hold back for those ten days.
“I thought I was going to die.”
“Sorry, Nii-chan. I figured if it’s you, you’d manage somehow. You’re horny enough.”
I am horny, but still.
Neither Etna nor Aisha held back at all. And I had already spent those ten days with no mercy given. An ordinary man probably wouldn’t have been able to react anymore, traumatized by the whole thing.
“‘Heal’ is dangerous. You can just keep going forever. Feels like my lifespan is being shortened, though.”
“Wife won’t die. Because you drink my body fluids.”
Apparently, dragon fluids—especially those of the ancient dragon species—were used as ingredients for secret elixirs. Blood, tears, and such could be turned into elixirs of immortality or resurrection draughts. What I had been drinking were entirely different kinds of body fluids, but still….
Maybe that’s why my stamina never seemed to run out.
Just as I was catching my breath thinking that, Commander Sharon and the others came to Etna’s house.
“Hey, thanks for the other day. That was a wonderful night.”
“It was like a dream.”
Both the Commander and Vice Commander were glowing with radiance. Quite a few days had passed since then, though.
“What do you need? Another summons?”
“No, today we come on behalf of the Margrave. She wishes to hold a triumphal ceremony for the knights’ safe return, and she wants supplies prepared.”
Ah, a triumph. Yeah, that was necessary. The cause of the ‘magic rampage’ had been identified, and there would be no recurrence. They needed to make it clear to the citizens that the crisis was resolved and that there was nothing left to worry about. That was the role of a ceremony.
“Got it. Then let’s do it.”
“Do what?”
Syldra asked curiously. Well, the answer was obvious.
“A festival. —A banquet!”
********
Preparations for the ceremony were finished in just two days. With the supplies I provided, the city of this frontier domain had turned into a complete festival mode.
“The winner of the Gyoza Eating Contest is Adventurer Sophie—!!”
A great cheer rose. After eating four hundred and eighty gyoza, the champion left second-place Palm trailing behind with half that number, and she beamed with delight. In the square, there were other eating contests and flea markets as well.
In the high-grade ham eating contest, Aisha had taken first place. Ham was densely packed, so it wasn’t easy to eat many pieces. And those things were deceptively heavy when you picked them up.
“Nii-chan, let’s go eat those skewers over there too!”
“Wife, I want to eat more!”
Dragged along by Etna, Syldra, and Pirika, I wandered around the city. Today, everyone was eating and drinking to their heart’s content.
I had provided an overflowing amount of alcohol, so at the Adventurer Guild’s tavern they were holding drinking competitions too. Beer, wine, distilled liquor—you name it.
There were plenty of dishes made by the citizens themselves as well. Since the guild had handed out monster meat hunted by adventurers for free, people were cooking it up using the seasonings and spices I had supplied.
Even this skewer I had just bought was covered generously with salt and pepper. Curry powder seemed to have been a hit too, with curry-flavored skewers of all kinds popping up at stalls across the city.
For stews, I had provided plenty of pressure cookers, so time-consuming dishes could be made quickly and in bulk. Soft monster meat stews were served in disposable paper bowls, and people were eating them as they walked around everywhere.
Of course, garbage was tossed into bins. Since it could be used as funds for my cheat skill, collection boxes were placed all around. Most were just reused cardboard boxes, though. Watching Syldra and Pirika happily share skewers, I happened to notice the knights on security duty.
“Yo, Commander Sharon. Tough job, patrolling the commoners’ district on festival day.”
“What, it’s precisely at times like this that security must be strict. Especially with everyone drinking. Ah, yes, the headquarters asked if you could provide more food.”
Already running out, huh. Well, that figured. People were eating and drinking at an incredible pace.
“Alright, let’s head over to the noble district then. …Come on, everyone, let’s go. Etna, make sure you hold their hands properly.”
“Got it, Nii-chan!”
After parting ways with Commander Sharon, who returned to his patrol, we headed for the noble district.
The gate was no problem thanks to the necklace given to me by the Margrave. Even without that, by now everyone knew I was the one providing food for the entire city. And since it was known that I was under the Margrave’s protection, and that the dragon child Syldra was with me, no one dared cause trouble.
Passing through the noble district, we came across a square with some kind of event going on.
Street performers, it seemed. Dancers in fluttering costumes were performing, but in this world, dancers were men.
Heading further in, we reached the Margrave’s castle. It served as both residence and fortress. This place was basically the heart of the frontier domain. All politics were conducted within those walls.
The operations headquarters had been set up in the courtyard. If it were inside the castle, petitioners would find it too hard to approach.
Behind the folding tables and tents I had provided, there should have been mountains of supplies piled up. But now, there was almost nothing left. At the tent, staff were handling distribution, but it looked like they were nearly out.
“Hey, Margrave. I’ve come to restock food and supplies.”
“Perfect timing. Please, replenish it to the same amount as before. Anything extra can be stored.”
“Got it.”
Answering so, I bought and produced more supplies one after another. The guards and attendants carried the growing piles away. That was the nice thing about a castle—you never ran out of manpower.
Noticing some people eyeing the supplies hungrily, I went ahead and bought some sweets and handed them out too.
No limits anyway, so if they want to eat, why not.
“…Were the people of the city smiling?”
“Yeah. Everyone is celebrating merrily.”
I answered the Margrave’s question while still working. Technically, it was probably disrespectful not to stop, but the sheer amount of work made it impossible.
“If they were smiling, then it is thanks to your power, Messenger of Heaven, Kaito.”
I turned to look at the Margrave. The beautiful lord was gazing at me.
“I want to reward you. What would you like? …Though, truthfully, I have little I can give you.”
“Well… I want to run a shop. Once food is plentiful here, crops are harvested, and I don’t have to keep providing supplies anymore… I’d like to open a small store in the commoners’ district. A place selling rare items at fair prices—somewhere ordinary folks might go for a little luxury once in a while.”
When I said that, the Margrave smiled softly.
“A fine dream.”
“Right? You should come too, Margrave. I’ll give you a discount.”
After all, my funding source was just random junk. If I wanted, I could make a fortune, but that would break the city’s economy. So instead, I’d just sprinkle in a few extras here and there, selling small luxuries. They already had the means to eat. The rest would be up to my whims.
“Very well, I’ll grant it. I’ll prepare land and a building for you. …But keep the prices fair.”
“Seriously? Thanks, that’s awesome.”
If that wish came true, then I could spend my days at ease. Eating, drinking, and maybe doing some naughty things with friends I got along with.
Well, spending my days like that wouldn’t be so bad.
