Chapter 15: Let’s Stay with the Female Knight Order!

“Should I bring out some real dishes?”

“No, bread is enough for now. We must take in rations first, and only then will we be able to carry out disaster recovery as a military action.”

That was Commander Sharon’s reply.

Her decision made sense. Before we could hand out food or do anything else, filling their stomachs came first. Taste could wait until there was room to spare.

“They’re saying even bread tastes good, so for now, this should do, right?”

“Exactly. ―All units, meal break! Once you finish eating, drink water and get proper rest! Anyone who can move will help with distribution afterward!”

A chorus of “Understood!” rose from the members. They were already resting. Of course they were. They had been cramming food into their starved bodies until full. No way they could do hard labor without waiting for digestion.

“Give me permission to dig up the training grounds. I’m short on funds.”

“Permission granted. I’ll have those who can move dig with you. In exchange, I expect a good meal.”

Leave it to me. Eat as much as you like.

For now, I put the dug-up soil and scrap material into “Purchase.” What surprised me was that the ashes from burning cardboard could be bought back. The cardboard itself couldn’t be sold, but once burned to ash, it could. Probably like the water-filled dishes—since it burned while containing this world’s “air,” it absorbed magical energy from the atmosphere.

The purchase price was on the low side, so I decided to use it as kindling first, and only sell it if I was truly short on funds. In this world, “ash” had plenty of uses. It could serve as fire retardant, as soap, since ash water was slightly alkaline. And of course, as fertilizer—ash was one of the precious everyday resources.

So I chose to exchange the wood first. I swapped out all the firewood in the barracks with the firewood I bought from the mall. Since the internet mall lumber worked fine for ordinary use, I just had those who could still move help with the exchange, and that way I replenished funds in one go. Even subtracting the cost of the replacement firewood, I made a pretty decent profit.

Anything usable, I’ll sell and swap.

I wanted to buy swords or armor too, but since the internet mall didn’t stock those, I gave up on that idea.

“It’s almost sunset. Will it be safe for me to head home?”

“Then you should stay at the barracks. I’ll have food delivered, so resting here will be safer for you.”

Since that was said, I checked with Etna and Pirika. Both agreed. Coming from a noble, there wasn’t really room to refuse for commoners like them. However, Aisha had her mother at home. 

So I asked a squad member who was delivering food to pass along a message. Since she was a woman, they figured it would be fine for her to be alone for a night.

Shouldn’t it be the other way around though?

“I go hunting and on expeditions all the time, leaving home for days. My mom was an adventurer herself, so being alone is no problem.”

“I see. Then let’s stay here.”

Since Aisha said that too, we decided to stay at the barracks. Honestly, I was just tired and didn’t want to move anymore. Etna and Aisha blushed and looked frustrated, but that meant we’d probably get a good night’s rest. Well, I might end up in one of those “kukkoro” moments since we were staying in the den of female knights though. 

After we finished eating, we were guided to the barracks. They said we could leave the blue sheets as they were. The folding tables were convenient, so they wanted to use them for something else.

“There are guest rooms. You can stay there.”

“Thanks, Commander Sharon. I appreciate it.”

I thanked Commander Sharon and was shown to the guest rooms in the barracks. Being military housing, the rooms had no decoration whatsoever—purely functional—but fine for resting.

“There’s also a soldiers’ bathhouse. Want to wash off your sweat? …Ah, a bathhouse is—”

“No need, I know what it is. …Wait, you have a bathhouse? Then yeah, I’d like to use it.”

Apparently, they filled it with water using water magic, then heated it with flame-type attack magic. Right. So all they needed was a drainage system and they could build a bathhouse with magic. 

Magic sure is convenient.

The knights could use stronger magic than ordinary citizens. Filling a large bathhouse’s worth of water, and heating it with powerful fire magic… Both actions required a higher magic power, something that knights or nobles could easily do. 

“Would you be able to make infinite money by selling water created by magic?”

“Possibly. Now that everyone’s eaten and regained strength, we’ll consider it tomorrow.”

I also received another method to procure funds. Right. If I just sell stuff made by magic, I wouldn’t need to sell firewood or rubbles. This world’s resources wouldn’t decrease. Nobles had high magic power, so they could produce a lot of water with magic. I could use that to generate funds endlessly. 

The water was heated, so I decided to bathe. Etna, having been told how, blushed red and walked over to me.

“H-hey… Kaito-nii-chan. Wanna go in together?”

“Hmm? Ah, sure. Let’s all go in together.”

Both Etna and Aisha lit up with joy. Pirika’s eyes sparkled too. But when they heard that, the surrounding female knights murmured.

“He doesn’t mind being seen naked by women…!?”

“Bathing together… I’m so jealous… Damn commoner…!”

The air swirled with shock and jealousy. They shot me sultry glances, while glaring resentfully at Etna and the others. Etna and Pirika didn’t notice, but Aisha did, and gave a wry smile.

So I said it out loud.

“Why would I care if someone saw me naked? It’s not like anything’s gonna fall off.”

“A-amazing…! The commoner world is so advanced…!”

The female knights were stunned by the culture gap.

This order of female knights reeks of virginity.

“W-we just need to prepare for a little bit. Can you wait a few minutes?”

“Sure, but what for?”

We waited outside for a few minutes. From inside the bathhouse came a tremendous roar. After a while, they finally let us in.

“Since it’s a special occasion, I knocked down the wall so you can see the stars! Don’t worry, I used tree magic to grow thick shrubs so no one can peek in from outside!”

The wall was gone. It was an open-air bath. The outside was completely visible, with tall trees and bushes grown thickly around the ground.

Ahh, how scenic…..Like hell it is. That shrubbery looks suspicious as hell.

“Now, take your time! I’ll keep everyone away from the bathhouse, so you can soak as long as you like!”

Her voice was unsteady. From Commander Sharon down, the female knights’ intentions were obvious.

These women… They seriously have no men around, do they?

“Whoa, awesome! Looks great, nii-chan, let’s get in already!”

“Yeah, alright. Take it slow.”

I deliberately took my time undressing. The female knights scurried away from the bathhouse. I already knew where they’d end up. That shrubbery, of course.
