Chapter 17: Instinct

Watanabe-san was the first one to take action. 

“Oi! Where are you looking?! I’m your opponent! This is the end for you! Fireball!!”

Outstretching his hand out, Watanabe-san unleashed a fireball toward King Golem that was still stuck in the railway track. 

Flame engulfed King Golem’s whole body. It was undoubtedly an incredibly powerful fireball. His fireball skill must be at least A-rank.  

However, King Golem is an SS-rank monster. In other words, that fireball is nothing for King Golem. 

“GUOOOOOOOOOOO!!!”

King Golem moved its body around to extinguish the flame. Its body was made from a very sturdy rock. Therefore, skill based on lightning, fire, ice or earth attributes would be ineffective against King Golem. To defeat King Golem. we would need to use water and pure physical attributes instead. 

Of course, this is not limited only to King Golem. The same logic can be applied to most golems. There’s no way Watanabe-san didn’t know about this.

While I was thinking so, Watanabe-san then called out to King Golem again. 

“Ha! Are you scared now? I guess an SS-rank monster is not that big of a deal, huh!”

King Golem became enraged at Watanabe-san’s taunt. 

“GUUUOOOOOOO!!”

SS-rank monsters can interpret human expression and words to a certain degree. So, it’s only natural for King Golem to become enraged. 

King Golem aimed its punch at Watanabe-san and he barely managed to dodge it. The golem’s punch pierced through the tracks, creating a large hole in its wake.

Upon hearing the response from his team members, Watanabe-san jumped over the railway track and started running. Of course, the other four team members of his also ran alongside him, while keeping an eye on the golem at the same time. 

“GUOOO!!”

Still in an enraged state, the golem’s movement became more desperate. The Golem focused its attack on Watanabe-san, intent to kill him but the other team members protected Watanabe-san by attacking the golem in turn. 

They chose the widest road around and lured King Golem to the park through it. They did so to minimize the damage on the nearby buildings and cars. 

Their teamworks was simply impeccable. If it was me, I would have caused a huge amount of damage to the town. 

Watanabe-san served as the main bait while the other four were protecting him and simultaneously prevented the golem’s attack from harming the citizens. Everything fitted together perfectly, like the gears of a mechanical clock. Watching their work was akin like watching a masterpiece. I couldn’t help myself but to stare at them in wonder. 

Soon enough, we finally arrived at Ogikubo Park. Fortunately, there was nobody around. 

The special forces team led the golem toward a large empty space. 

I can fight without worry here but… The same goes for King Golem too.

“GUOOOO!!”

King Golem roared as it infused its magic into its fist. Its fist immediately glowed red and the golem hit the ground hard. The golem infused a large amount of magic into the ground and…. Detonated it. 

“””!!!”””

The ground within 10 meters radius got destroyed, debris floating up in the air. We, along with King Golem, were also floating in the air from the impact.

Being airborne possessed no difficulties for King Golem. The golem moved quickly, catching the members of special forces into its arms. The five members of special forces were in panic, preventing them from reacting in time. They were all trapped within King Golem’s arms. 

The golem then infused its arms with magic, making its arm glow in red again. All five of them groaned in pain. 

This is bad. The hardness of the golem’s arms, combined with the explosive power of the magic infused in the arms and the force of gravity… The golem is trying to kill all five of them by combining these three elements. If the golem hits the ground, the survival rate for the five of them is close to zero. I need to make my move now!

“Magic Boost.”

I chanted under my breath and a mass of magic ignited from under my feet, allowing me to move freely in the air. I jumped toward the center of King Golem’s chest, trying to strike it with my fist and…

“GU-GUOOO!!”

Panicking, the golem released the special forces member trapped within its arms and desperately tried to guard its chest with its arms instead. 

The broken pieces of land that had been broken by the golem’s attack soon fell down to the ground. The five members of special forces also fell down, coughing painfully. 

I couldn’t use healing magic on them just yet because now I got the golem’s attention on me. Fortunately, it seemed their injuries weren’t fatal because I had managed to stop the golem’s attack. 

Using my levitation skill, I quickly moved all five of them to a corner, protected by the shade of trees. 

“Gu-Guuu……”

The creature looked at me warily. 

Of course. I deliberately aimed for the golem’s weak spot. There’s a core hidden in the middle of its chest. If I crush it, the golem will die. 

“GUAAAAAA!!”

The golem ran towards me, infusing its fist with all magic it could muster while simultaneously covering the center of its chest with its other hand. 

The golem is trying to attack me while trying to ensure its safety, huh?

I silently extended my right hand, catching the golem’s hand bare handed. Our hands met, causing a tremendous shockwave that shattered the nearby glass windows.

The golem’s red fist posessed a terrifying power that could detonate anything that came in contact with it. Hence why I only used one hand to strike it with. 

There’s one simple solution to prevent the explosion. I just need to remove the red from its fist.

“Drain.”

I chanted and the red glow from the golem’s fist was absorbed by my hand. In a matter of split second, the golem’s fist returned to its normal color. 

Then, I kicked the golem upwards, sending the 20 meters big golem 50 meters up in the air. 

“GUU-!”

“To be able to kick that huge golem up in the air like that…”

It seemed Watanabe-san said something but I couldn’t quite hear him. 

“GU-GUUUUUAAAAAA!!”

The King Golem quickly stood and charged towards me again. 

As expected from an SS-rank monster. Giving up is not an option for them.

Though the golem was bewildered, but the golem showed no sign of surrendering. It immediately stood up, ready to challenge me again. Its will to fight was truly commendable. 

However, no matter how many times it tries, the result will stay the same. 

I blocked its fist with my bare hand and once again, I sucked the red from its fist with Drain. Then, I kicked it again, sending the golem flying in the sky. 

We repeated the same motions about 150 times. After about an hour and a half, it seemed the golem finally ran out of stamina and magic power.

The golem ran toward me again but this time, the golem forgot to defend the center of its chest with its other hand. 

I stood still as the golem ran towards me and then when the golem was close enough, I jumped, aiming straight at the golem’s face. 

“Water Ball.”

I shot out a water ball. 

However, it wasn’t just any Water Ball. The speed of my Water Ball was equivalent to that of a bullet. 

“GUAAAAA!!”

Receiving a direct hit of my Water Ball, the golem collapsed. If it was only a regular water attribute skill, the golem might be slightly perturbed but with this, the golem wouldn’t be able to move for about ten seconds. 

I quietly climbed on top of the golem and moved towards its chest. I clenched my hand into a fist and extended my hand to the center of its chest. 

Taking a deep breath, I gathered the red light I had absorbed earlier into my fist. 

“One Inch Punch.”

“Gu-!!”

In an instant, my fist pierced through the golem’s chest and reached its core. The moment my red fist reached the golem’s core, the core shattered. It seemed the red light that I had absorbed from the golem caused the core to explode. 

“Phew… We’re done, I guess?”

Of course, I could have defeated the golem in one blow but if I did so, I might cause King Golem’s fragments to fly into residential areas or buildings. I would’ve caused some serious damage if I did so. It would be safer for everyone if I slowly chipped the golem’s stamina and finished it off in the safest possible way. It’s just like fishing, in a sense. 

I wonder if the special forces members are safe?

I looked toward the trees and then….

“””Aaaaaah….”””

The five of them were staring at me with their eyes wide open so wide, it was as if their eyeballs would pop out from its socket anytime soon. Their mouths were gaping open, looking obviously flabbergasted. 

Why are they reacting like this….?

I tilted my head to the side, confused. Then, I suddenly remembered. The image of one particular girl came to my mind.

I wonder if Yuri-nee is safe?

The evacuation took her about an hour. After evacuating all the citizens, including the injured ones, from the station, Yuri headed towards Ogikubo Park. 

Strict security had been placed all over the place but Yuri pushed her way through the security guards, intent to make her way towards where Yusuke was. 

Normally, she wouldn’t do something like this. However, things were different this time. Because… She was being protected by Yusuke. 

Her entire body was covered by a barrier that Yusuke had casted on her. 

In other words, Yusuke’s presence was dominating her whole body.

Hence why, even when Yuri was helping with the evacuation, her body felt hot all over. Deep within her stomach, something smoldering hot was burning, making her feel warm.
