Chapter 13: Yuri’s Proposal

Sanae-san’s words touched a deep part of my heart. Her words went through my heart, accurately stimulating my heart in a way it never before. I smiled as I handed the plastic bag to my little sister. 

My little sister’s eyes sparkled and she jumped to hug me. 

We had our meals together and when we were in the middle of finishing our meal…

After eating her heart’s fill, my little sister was patting her full belly while lying down on the floor. 

“Rie, change into your casual clothes before lying down. You will wrinkle your uniform.”

At my urging, Rie stood up and began to undress right here and there.

“Rie, go change in the bathroom.”

My little sister went to take her change of clothes from the closet. She didn’t look the least unfazed even though she was parading around the house in just her underwear in front of me.

“Because Onii-chan is my Onii-chan. We’re always been like this.”

Feeling troubled at my little sister’s antics, I decided to say the thing that had been bothering me out loud. 

“I wonder if other guys also experience something similar to me?”

I guess this is something only an older brother would know about.

I feel like recently, my little sister has become way too defenseless around me. 

I thought to myself when suddenly, the air around my little sister changed. The color disappeared from my little sister’s eyes as she narrowed her eyes.

I shrugged my shoulders in response. 

“My bad… I’m sorry for saying weird things.”

“It’s okay. As long as Onii-chan understands, it’s all good.”

My little sister, who had been in full yandere mode just until a moment ago, suddenly brightened up. Her cheerful disposition returned without any warning. 

Trying to change the subject, I told her. 

“By the way, I met with Yuri-san and Nana’s mother today.”

“Huh? Re-Really?!”

“Yeah. Her name is Sanae-san. It seems she had some business with the Dungeon Association, so we ended up having tea together on the spur of the moment.”

“Wow! Onii-chan met with Sanae Kirieda-san!”

I gave my little sister a rough summary of what happened today. How Sanae-san comforted me, our dangerous position and also, about Sanae-san’s husband.  I also told her that Sanae-san asked me to become friends with Yuri-san and Nana. 

My little sister was so touched by Sanae-san’s gesture. She looked really happy. 

“That super popular actress… To Onii-chan…. Wow! She’s super nice!!”

“Right. She was really kind. Oh and, she also gave me a free coupon for a famous dessert place that you can use, Rie.”

“Hu-Huh?! For me?! No way!!”

My little sister looked elated. She placed both hands on her cheeks, exclaiming in delight. 

“Actually… I also talked with Yuri-senpai today. I’ve always thought she’s really wonderful as a person. Which is why… I totally agree with what Sanae-san said!!”

“I see. So the two of them are always nice to you, huh?”

“That’s right! I don’t really fit well with my classmates so… They helped me out in various ways to fit in at school! So… You know, I hope I can repay their kindness someday…”

Rie looked somewhat forlorn before she said. 

“If Yuri-senpai and Nana-senpai ever got in trouble again, I want you to help them again like you did before.”

“…Got it.”

I don’t understand why she has such a forlorn expression on her face….

I squeezed Rie’s hand tightly, trying to comfort her. 

“Rie…”

“?!”

“Let’s go eat some dessert.”

“Onii-chan….”

With her mouth half-open, Rie looked at me in a daze. Then, the corner of her eyes lifted into a smile as she hugged my arm real tight. 

“Yeah! Let’s go!”

“Don’t stick to me like that.”

“Huh?? Why not? It’s fine, isn’t it?!”

And so, Rie and I went to an expensive dessert place near the station. We both indulged in sweet desserts to our heart’s content. 

Rie inhaled various types of cake, as if she was possessed by a hungry ghost. 

I didn’t know Rie liked desserts this much… Maybe she has been restraining herself because of our financial situations….. But it’s fine. From now on, I’ll be sure to make a lot of money. It’s fine to indulge ourselves in a little bit of extravagance every once in a while. 

After eating, we returned home. We took a bath and went straight to sleep. 

“Goodnight, Onii-chan!”

“Goodnight.”

“You know, it’s okay if you sleep in the bed with you. You don’t have to sleep on the floor.”

“Fine.”

My sister fell asleep within a few seconds. Her ability to fall asleep in a matter of seconds really made me feel jealous of her.

I just got Sanae-san’s contact information today… Just what kind of message did Yuri-san send to me? 

I moved my fingers to check my inbox. 

『Okada-san, I’m sorry for bothering you this late in the night. Are you still awake?』

I immediately replied. 

『Yes. I’m still awake.』

Is there something she wants to tell me? I hardly ever talk with girls other than my little sister so I’m not really sure…
