S-Rank Adventurer Betrayed by His Fiancée in the Hero’s Party Sets Off on a Journey to Heal His Broken Heart ~The Strongest Betrayed Adventurer Ends Up Forming a Harem Party~ - Chapter 23: Charge, Slay, Survive
Chapter 23: Charge, Slay, Survive
[Side: Siscon Twin (Big Sister Frey)]
Together with the Oathsworn Radiant Swords, I—Frey—was carving through the horde of magical beasts, pushing forward to take down the troublesome A-Rank monsters.
“Ugh, this is so annoying—get lost already!”
With my halberd, just shy of ten meters long, enhanced with 《Light Blade: Third》, I swept through the advancing goblins, orcs, and mid-tier beasts like Blood Wolves. Their numbers kept coming, but I slashed through them and pressed on.
“These bloodthirsty Blood Wolves keep charging at us, and the goblins? Ugh, the way they only target women is just disgusting!”
Even if it meant taking risks, we had to take down the A-Rank beasts.
Most of them were massive creatures like the Moldrake we defeated earlier or ones that could use magic.
If those monsters made it past us to where the lower-ranked adventurers and the local soldiers were holding the line near the town, it would be a complete disaster.
Our strategy was straightforward:
The A-Rank combatants would charge in, fight the high-level beasts, and retreat for healing if things got too dangerous. Then they’d dive back into the fray to finish off the A-Rank threats.
Meanwhile, the rest of the forces held their ground closer to the town, maintaining a defensive line to resist the stampede.
“There it is—ha!”
After swinging my halberd for what felt like the hundredth time, we finally reached an open space at the center of the chaos.
“”Grrrrrrr!!””
Standing about three meters tall was a massive magical beast—a wolf? A dog?—with two heads.
An A-Rank monster whose name I didn’t even know.
No information, no intel… but honestly, who cares?
I’ve got plenty of frustration from my ruined chance to care for Abel, and I’m taking it all out on this thing!
“”Raaawr!!””
The twin-headed dog bared its fangs and lunged with surprising speed for something so huge.
“Eat this!”
I aimed a slash at its front legs as it charged.
But the beast, with incredible agility, stopped mid-charge and reared up on its hind legs, effortlessly dodging my attack.
“What kind of stats does this thing have…?”
As I muttered in disbelief, I noticed something horrifying—
Flames were building in both of its mouths as it glared down at me.
Fire-breathing… of course. That’s the kind of trouble you expect from an A-Rank beast!
“《Enhance: Fifth》!“
The 《Enchanter 》skill has its limits.
No matter how much you train, there’s a maximum number of buffs you can apply. For me, it’s fifteen at once.
Right now, I’ve got twelve buffs on myself and 《Enhance: Third》 cast on Maria, so I’m already at my limit.
And even for a single target, there’s a cap on how many buffs can stack at once. That’s why the 《Enchanter 》role is often seen as purely support.
This 《Enhance: Fifth 》 is my absolute limit—anything more, and my body would break.
But in this state, my physical abilities are boosted to over thirty times their normal level!
Pouring so much power into my body that it felt like it might snap, I swung the halberd with both hands—and stopped it mid-swing with just one arm.
Then, I cast 《Weight: Fourth》 on myself, doubling the weapon’s weight.
With all the strength generated from the added weight and power, I brought the halberd up in a reverse diagonal slash.
“Dieeeee!!!”
Before the twin-headed dog could even unleash its breath attack, I struck, severing both of its necks in one clean swing.
“Hah… whew…”
Even though I took down a massive A-Rank beast with a single strike, it left me slightly winded.
If only I could handle stronger buffs or apply more of them at once…
Thinking about “what ifs” was pointless, yet I couldn’t help but wish for even greater strength.
“Big sis! Watch out!”
[Side: Siscon Twins (Younger Sister Maria)]
I—Maria—shouted at my sister as I spotted a magical beast lunging at her, just after she’d defeated the A-Rank monster.
“《Bolt Blast》!“
From the tip of my staff, a burst of lightning shot out, blasting the beast away.
“Geez, you can’t let your guard down like that!”
“With such a reliable little sister covering my back, I can afford to relax. Thanks, Maria.”
Once I made sure my sister was steady, I took off running, scanning for the next target.
To keep my speed up, I wasn’t using a shield.
For now, I focused on maximizing my magic’s efficiency, sticking close behind my sister as her backup.
But… she kept charging further ahead!
“How long is this going to last? Ugh!”
“Until we’ve wiped out all the A-Rank beasts—and they’ve gone beyond five hundred now!”
“That’s way too much! Ugh, I just wanted to finish breaking that Soulbinding and start my lovey-dovey life with Abel already!”
Shouting things like that, I kept running while taking down the magical beasts charging at me.
Even though the sheer number of monsters around made me uneasy, the plan was working well enough.
The real problem was how long we could hold out.
I hadn’t taken any serious wounds that would leave scars, but I was getting more and more cuts and bruises from bites and punches.
Seriously, pain from monsters I don’t even like? No thanks!
“《Buster Soul Bolt》! — 《Bolt Smash》! Whew!”
As I used my enhanced skills, landing a lightning-charged kick on a nearby beast, I called out to my sister.
“Big sis, are your stamina and magic holding up?”
“I’ll make them last! This is the time to push ourselves!”
Her response was strong and confident, but I knew she had her limits.
Using skills drains both stamina and magic power, and keeping up this pace must’ve been wearing her down, especially since her magic reserves weren’t particularly large.
I was in a similar situation, using both skills and magic simultaneously, which burned through my magic power quickly.
Still, even though things were tough, they weren’t the worst they could be.
The real disaster would be if one of us died—or if the town fell. We couldn’t let that happen, no matter what.
If the worst happens, the siren we heard earlier is supposed to sound again from the town. When that happens, everyone’s been instructed to fall back immediately.
Since we haven’t heard it, that means the defensive line is still holding.
It’s also proof that the other A-Rank combatants are doing their part. Honestly, the MVP might just be that guild master.
“You damn beasts! Like hell I’m gonna die—I’ll slaughter every last one of you!!!”
“…Tch.”
“Ugh.”
Hearing that voice we didn’t want to hear, my sister and I both clicked our tongues in frustration.
That disgusting man, the one who’s always leering at us, seems to still be alive.
Listen, the only man we care about is Abel. Any other guy’s sleazy stares just make my skin crawl.
Ugh, forget that creep! I want Abel to come and deal with me, to scold me, even tease me. My inner masochist is screaming for it.
I mean, can you blame me? I’m getting exhausted, and for so long Abel only had eyes for Millia—dreaming about him like this used to feel impossible!
Suppressing these tired, borderline ridiculous thoughts, I turned my focus forward.
For now, we need to survive. So that one day, dreams like that might actually come true.
[Side: Pure-Hearted Sword Saint]
The sights and sounds of the battlefield rushed past me.
Leaving goblins and Blood Wolves behind, I charged forward without looking back.
I was moving separately from Frey and Maria. It was more efficient this way.
Alone, I could focus on speed, leaping over smaller monsters and using the larger ones as stepping stones to propel myself forward.
By bypassing everything unrelated to my target, I could close in on A-Rank beasts and take them out in one strike with my skills.
A surprise attack from stealth could either kill them outright or leave them with devastating wounds.
“《Severing Moon》!“
Locking onto a beast ahead, I closed the distance in an instant and swung my sword.
The blade, shimmering with light, carved a clean arc as it sliced effortlessly through its neck, cutting it in two.
“Hah… whew… this is getting tough…”
I murmured to myself as I caught my breath mid-run.
I’d been relying on my enhancement skill, 《Sword of Glory》, this entire time.
On top of that, I’d been sprinting around and using attack skills one after another, burning through my energy fast.
“My stamina is so low… Well, I’m skill-reliant, so it can’t be helped, but I wish I had a little more endurance for longer fights…”
I knew it was pointless to wish for what I didn’t have, especially now when I was already feeling the strain.
Just then, a gleaming arrow shot past me at incredible speed.
The blue trail it left behind wasn’t just an attack—it was a signal, marking the path ahead for all of us.
“Miss Alvia’s doing her best… I have to keep going too.”
The arrow was one of Alvia’s, fired from the city walls of Cahel where she was holding her position as Guild Master.
Alvia Nate—her job is 《Azure Archer》, a powerful sniper role specializing in bow attacks.
Her glowing blue arrows pack a punch, taking out A-Rank monsters while marking their positions for the front-line fighters.
She’s as skilled as they come, a battle-hardened Guild Master who climbed her way to the top.
Her aim is precise, and I’ve seen several monsters with fatal wounds to their foreheads or hearts thanks to her.
But even with her skills, the stampede is relentless.
While running, I couldn’t help but worry about the sisters.
Frey has a tendency to lose herself in the heat of battle, and while Maria is there to keep her grounded, I couldn’t shake the concern.
Luckily, we weren’t too far apart. If anything happened, I’d be able to rush over in no time.
With that in mind, I pressed forward, staying close enough to them as I dashed through the battlefield that felt like a scene from hell.
・ ・ ・ ・ ・
An hour or so into the fight.
I’d been pushing forward, taking breaks to catch my breath when needed, and had just taken down another monster far from the town, where the beasts were starting to thin out.
That’s when I ran into someone I wanted to avoid more than anything.
“…Tch, if it isn’t that annoying Sword Saint girl.”
“…Funny, I was about to say the same. What a pleasure to see you, you scumbag.”
It was him—Gerand, the sleazy, trashy man who’d harassed Abel back at the guild.
I wanted to get away from him as fast as possible, but I also needed a moment to catch my breath.
“Elmie, finally caught up to you—ugh, gross!”
“Maria? A proper girl shouldn’t… Tch.”
Frey and Maria emerged from the swarm of magical beasts, only to stop short and grimace the moment they spotted Gerand.
His party members were drenched in sweat, clearly panicked. They’d been trying to calm him down and talk sense into him, but of course, he ignored them and came straight at us.
“Well, look who it is! The so-called Sword Saint and those two big-boobed chicks. Just seeing your faces reminds me of that damn brat Abel!”
“Huh? That’s your problem, not ours. Stop looking at us; it’s disgusting.”
“Seriously, you lost to Abel, so why are you acting so smug?”
“I didn’t lose! He had to be cheating somehow! Bet it was you, slut! I saw you boosting him—you’re an Enhancer, right?! Sneaky little trickster!”
Seriously? He got utterly destroyed in that fight, yet he’s still spouting this nonsense?
This guy is unbelievable. He’d been skulking around avoiding Abel ever since that day, clearly too scared to face him again.
Now that Abel’s not here, he’s suddenly acting all tough—what a joke.
Even his party members were freaking out, frantically trying to stop him.
“Stop it, man! You’re gonna get us all killed!” they begged, but of course, he ignored them completely.
I could feel my patience reaching its limit. Enough is enough.
“You can say whatever you want about us—it’s annoying, but I’ll let it slide for now. But don’t you dare keep insulting someone I care about. When you do that… I start feeling like cutting you down.”
“I’ve had it with you bitches. All of you ass-kissing whores, that damn brat Abel, everyone getting in my way—I wanna crush you all!”
I unleashed a wave of killing intent, pressing him down with sheer intimidation, but instead of backing off, he exploded with even more anger. His shouts sounded no better than the guttural cries of a goblin.
This guy… he’s completely lost. Drenched in his own arrogance and excuses, blinded by his twisted view of the world. He’s beyond saving at this point.
And honestly, if “flirting” could get us anywhere close to what he’s suggesting, we wouldn’t have to fight so hard every day!
I shot back, my tone sharp from the stress.
“You feel this way because you’re nothing but a scumbag who preys on women. Of course, people see you as a nuisance—probably even your own party. Am I wrong?”
“Like I care! Weak-ass morons, that loudmouth bitch guildmaster, all of them! Who cares what happens to useless toys that break easily? Damn it, I’ll do whatever I want!”
He screamed, veins bulging, as he gripped a massive battle axe almost bigger than himself.
Is he serious?
Even with monsters still scattered around, this guy’s actually thinking of attacking us in the middle of all this chaos?
“Sorry, but we’re not weak enough to be taken down by you.”
“You bitches! I’ll kill you all! I’ll defile you right in front of that bastard Abel, then butcher every last one of you!”
The air around Gerand began to shimmer with the ominous aura of his activated skill.
“Hey, Gerand! Stop! This is bad—don’t do it!”
“Shut the hell up!”
One of his party members shouted, stepping in to stop him. But Gerand swung his massive arm like a log and sent them flying.
“This is beyond unreasonable. There’s no reasoning with him anymore.”
“We don’t have time for this nonsense right now, but…”
His clear intent to attack left us no choice but to reach for our weapons.
“Let me show you! I’m stronger! Way stronger than some whores gifted with lucky jobs! Way stronger than that brat with his cursed sword!”
Then—SNAP.
A sharp, sudden sound broke through his tirade.
“Huh? Wha—?”
Gerand froze, staring at his right arm—or rather, where it used to be. It was gone.
“This is bad.”
