Chapter 91: “Isn’t This the Kappa Hero Merry?” ①
The Abe family head—Kohei Abe—sat cross-legged in the tatami room, daydreaming about his glorious future.
“They were nothing but useless brats… but who would’ve thought they’d end up being of use to their father like this? I once thought I should’ve just killed them off, but sparing them turned out to be the right call. Good, good.”
The five Abe siblings, starting with his defiant eldest son, had all abandoned the family early on.
Sure, Shinonome was now praised as Kyoto’s strongest exorcist, but no matter what anyone said, the oldest and most powerful bloodline was still the Abe family—and at its head sat Kohei.
He’d always known one day they might rebel, so at one point he even considered killing them early.
The only reason he didn’t wasn’t because of parental affection—it was because he thought he could use them as tools to produce exceptional children for the next generation.
But that scheme had already failed.
Shinonome was simply far too great for him.
Even as a child, Shinonome had been strong enough to utterly crush Kohei—someone who, while not the greatest of all time, was still considered highly skilled in his own right.
Kohei thought his son would demand the seat of family head, but instead, Shinonome abandoned the family outright, taking his siblings with him.
Rather than ending up destitute, they found homes, jobs, and built stable lives for themselves.
If he had been a real father, Kohei might have felt proud of them.
But he was nothing more than a petty man who had long since lost any sense of parental affection.
All he felt was bitterness—resentment that his children were living better lives than he was.
Even if he wanted more children, his wife was already past the age of bearing them.
So he thought—then I’ll just take another woman.
But every psychic family he approached only mocked him, saying the same thing: “Maybe if it were Shinonome Abe. But for a washed-up middle-aged has-been like you? No way we’d hand over our daughters or granddaughters.”
Unlike the past heads of the Abe family, Shinonome was flexible.
Where his predecessors had always acted superior, convinced the Abe clan stood above all others, Shinonome treated other families with respect—even humbling himself at times.
Kohei had laughed at his son back then, calling him shameless.
But within just a few years, most of the families had been won over, believing Shinonome to be the true heir worthy of leading the clan.
Kohei wasn’t stupid.
He knew his own abilities were nothing compared to Shinonome’s.
If he had swallowed his pride and bowed his head—even just for show—maybe he could have patched things up.
But he couldn’t.
And so the Abe clan fell into steep decline.
During that time, Kohei began building ties with moderate exorcists who sought coexistence with oni.
He even reached out to the oni themselves.
His ambition grew—to take the best of both worlds, reclaim Kyoto’s prestige, and eventually bring even the mighty “Institute” under his control.
But of course, things were never that convenient.
Shinonome already knew about his secret scheming among the moderates.
And the oni had just lost their leader, Ibaraki Doji.
―And then.
“Hellooooo thereee! And now—Galaxy Kappa Hero Slash ZAMAA!”
With a lively, unfamiliar boy’s voice, the long-standing mansion of the Abe family was cleaved clean in two.
“What in the world is going ooooooooon!?”
A mysterious strike had hit the mansion—so sharp that even though the building was split straight down the middle, it didn’t crumble.
Still, this was no small matter.
The Abe estate was wrapped in layers of barriers.
No one but Abe family members or invited guests could enter.
And against non-humans, the wards were outright poisonous.
The entire setup was built on the assumption that no ordinary human would ever dare to launch a broad-daylight assault.
Kohei shot to his feet, hurrying toward the unfamiliar presence.
When he saw who it was, his face twisted in rage.
“Shinonome! So the son raises his blade against the father? Do you want to strip everything away from me!?”
Convinced his children had come with allies to attack him, Kohei spat as he screamed.
“Yeah, see—I already know about all the shady junk you’ve been plotting. No doubt you’ll be judged for that. But this time, it ain’t me you need to worry about—he’s here for you.”
“What are you babbling about? He!? Who!?”
“I am… Galaxy Kappa Hero, Justice Merry. Right now, I’m standing right behind you.”
From behind him came a faint huff of breath, and Kohei jolted in shock.
He hadn’t sensed a single presence.
Even once he realized a child was standing there, he still couldn’t clearly grasp who it was.
“Eek!? H-How did you—! Do you even know I’m the head of the Abe family—”
He tried to roar about this outrage, but the words never left his mouth.
Because—
“Galaxy Mammon-Mammon Carnival Explosion Dynamite Akan Komashu Kotazawa Kappa Merry Paaanch!”
With that needlessly long attack name, the boy behind him kicked him square in the groin.
“—piyo!?”
A ridiculous squeak burst out as the shock rocketed from his crotch straight to his brain, and Kohei promptly blacked out.
〜〜Afterword〜〜
Senju: “…Seriously, what even was that move name?”
Nacchan: “It’s just the mood of the moment! I say it randomly, but I like to believe my soul guides the words out of my mouth!”
Senju: “Yeah, no way!”
Goro Kumazaki: “Wha-wha-wha-whaaa! Madoka’s dad just turned into a mom!”
Madoka: “What the heck are you talking about!?”
Nacchan’s Memo: Kohei Abe. A petty man. The worst as a parent. Also weak.
Chapter 92: “Isn’t This the Kappa Hero Merry?” ②
After dropping the foaming, most-likely Abe family head to the ground, Natsuki crackled with electricity.
“W-Wait, Nacchan… that’s going too far!”
Madoka tried to stop him, but it was already too late.
“—Roar of the Thunder Emperor!”
A deafening boom, a violent shockwave, and a storm of blue lightning swallowed the Abe mansion, tearing it apart without mercy.
Thunder roared as it ripped the house apart, piece by piece.
And in the end, flames caught—soon the mansion was burning.
“—Phew.”
“Whaaaaaaaaaaaat the hell!? Why are you making that face like you just did a job well done!? Even us oni wouldn’t go this far! What the hell are you, huh!?”
Hoshiguma Doji grabbed Natsuki by the collar and shook him hard.
“Just a middle schooler.”
“No way in hell a middle schooler can do this! And even if one could, the fact you don’t hesitate at all is what’s terrifying! Am I right, guys!?”
Hoshiguma Doji looked around, expecting agreement—but everyone else was too shocked to answer.
With a few exceptions—
“—Ba-dump, I don’t hate this pushy side of Natsuki, though.”
Koume’s cheeks flushed red.
“—As expected of my prince! You’ve wiped away the filth that stained my painful past!”
Kirara sighed dreamily.
“…Brings back memories. Once you flipped the switch, you always went completely overboard, didn’t you…”
Madoka smiled nostalgically.
Hoshiguma Doji’s face twitched as realization struck her.
“—So the moment Sis messed with this brat, her fate was already sealed! Thank god I wasn’t on her side! Seriously, thank god!”
■
Thanks to Natsuki’s wild performance, Kohei Abe was taken down and handed over to Shinonome.
Their mother and the old folks of the Abe family showed up, hurling filthy insults nonstop—
But one clothesline from Kirara in the front, another from Onsa in the back, and a dropkick from Madoka shut them up quick. After that, they were all restrained.
“We’ll leave the rotten parents with the moderates. Plenty of kids are pissed about being used, so they won’t be breaking out or running off anytime soon.”
With those words, Shinonome shoved his parents and the old folks into the back of a van driven by moderate exorcists, then hopped in himself.
“No need to worry. I’ll make sure this is their end as exorcists. Once we’ve decided on the afterparty venue, I’ll contact you.”
He waved cheerfully as he left.
“…Uh, hey.”
“What is it?”
“When you think about it… setting fire to someone’s house is actually a really bad thing, isn’t it?”
“Bit late to realize that, don’t you think!?”
“Yuraaa! Why couldn’t you think of that before you did it!?”
“Natsuki-kun, I probably shouldn’t be the one saying this, but—can you please act a little more proper!?”
With Natsuki’s sudden reflection, Koume, Senju, and Yusuke all shouted back in full-force retorts.
“Don’t worry about it, Nacchan. We don’t have a single good memory in this house anyway, and we already moved all our stuff to the apartment.”
“Yeah! Plus, all the folks who used to look after us? Big Bro pulled them out, and they’re living safely over at the apartment too!”
“This house only ever had our crappy parents and those fossil elders. No problem at all, my prince.”
With Madoka, Onsa, and Kirara backing him up, Natsuki decided to stop worrying.
“Alright then! Okay! Let’s go party at that place Shuten-ossan recommended!”
“Yaaay!”
Everyone had been shocked by Natsuki’s rampage, but they quickly shifted gears.
Humans, angels, and oni—together, they happily headed off to the afterparty.
〜〜Afterword〜〜
Crusty old grandma and grandpa: “Kuh… just kill us already!”
Shinonon: “…Who even wants that?”
Nacchan: “Granny Unkai from the Minazuki family’s such a nice person, but the Abe folks are just… nope, total write-offs!”
The Kyoto arc is just about wrapped up.
And next… the Otherworld Arc?
Chapter 92.5: Interlude — “Isn’t This Satan’s First Meeting?” ①
Seiji Ayakawa sat at the bar counter, staring into a shot glass of whiskey.
It had been about fifteen minutes since he ordered it, yet he hadn’t so much as touched it—just kept staring.
The middle-aged bartender, busy tending to other customers, noticed but didn’t say a word.
It wasn’t neglect.
If Seiji had looked truly desperate, the bartender would have stepped in right away.
But after years of reading customers, he decided to wait—at least until the man took his first sip.
That was when the door swung open with a light clang.
A man in a white suit walked in.
He was broad-shouldered, the suit fitting him perfectly.
His hair was thinning, but neatly trimmed short. Combined with his confident manner and striking, almost non-Japanese features, he looked like a seasoned Hollywood actor.
In short—he was the very picture of an ikemen ossan, a handsome old man.
That handsome old man—none other than the Demon Lord Satan—took the seat right next to Seiji.
“Yo, Bel-chi. A bourbon, neat.”
“…Right away, sir.”
The bartender poured whiskey into a shot glass and slid it over.
Satan raised it casually and downed it in a single gulp.
“Fuu. Sharing beer in a warm family setting is good and all, but drinking alone like this—that’s a gentleman’s pastime.”
With a satisfied nod, he ordered another with a flick of his finger.
It was then that he noticed the man beside him looking awfully gloomy.
“…What’s wrong, young man? Got something on your mind?”
Normally, Satan would never strike up a conversation with some stranger sitting next to him.
But for some reason, Seiji caught his attention, and the words slipped out.
Seiji flinched a little at suddenly being addressed by a foreign-looking man, but after tossing back his shot glass, he spoke.
“I-It’s embarrassing to tell this to someone I’ve just met, but…”
“Sometimes it’s easier to say things because it’s to someone you just met.”
“…True enough.”
“Sorry, I just couldn’t help noticing the gloomy face. If I’ve offended you, my bad.”
“No, not at all. …Would you mind listening for a bit?”
“Of course.”
Satan smiled warmly, and after a moment’s hesitation, Seiji opened up.
“—I don’t want to go home… No, it’s more like—I’m afraid of my daughter.”
His face looked on the verge of tears as he confessed, and Satan nodded slowly.
“…Yeah, that happens. Teenage rebellion phase?”
“Rebellion phase… maybe. Yes, she’s at the right age, but honestly, even as a little kid she was strong-willed. If things didn’t go her way, she’d throw a tantrum…”
“That’s a perk of being young. Too bad it’s the parents who have to suffer for it.”
“…Right. So it’s not just me then.”
Seiji’s face softened a little, as if a weight had lifted.
“Bel-chi, give him another. Same as mine.”
“Understood.”
“Ah—sorry to trouble you.”
“No worries, no worries.”
A fresh shot glass of bourbon whiskey was placed in front of Seiji.
“Well then—to the hardworking fathers out there. Cheers.”
“Haha, thank you.”
Satan and Seiji clinked their glasses and downed the whiskey in one go.
〜〜Afterword〜〜
This was the meeting between Haruko-san’s ex-husband, Seiji Ayakawa, and the Demon Lord Satan.
By the way, the bartender’s name? He’s Beelzebub.
This little encounter will tie into future events. (More on that later.)
Next time, we’re heading back to Kyoto.
Chapter 93: “Isn’t the Afterparty Fun?” ①
“Eeeh—then if I may, let me, good old Shuten Doji, lead the toast. Ahem! To welcoming and bidding farewell to the band of heroes from Mukaijima City, to celebrating the fall of the Abe house, to asking your forgiveness and begging you not to kill me, Shuten Doji, but to settle for Ibaraki Doji instead, and to Madoka-kun finally being freed from that curse—cheers!”
“Cheersi!”
“Cheeeeeeeeers!”
They had rented out a tatami room in a Kyoto ryotei, and Natsuki Yura, along with his merry companions, were feasting with the Kyoto yokai and the Abe siblings.
Apparently, the names “Shuten Doji” and “Tamamo-no-Mae” carried enough weight that they got in without even making a reservation.
Even middle-schooler Natsuki could tell one thing.
This place was expensive.
“Fuu, fuu—okay, Nacchan, say ‘aah.’”
“Uh… Madoka-chan? I can eat by myself, you know?”
“…I just wanted to enjoy some time with my childhood friend I finally got to reunite with. But if it’s a bother…”
“—Aah! Mmm, tasty!”
“Fufu, then I’m glad.”
Madoka, sitting on Natsuki’s left, fed him tofu with an “aah.”
He was a little surprised, but hey—back in the day, they’d done the same with takoyaki.
So he decided not to think too hard about it.
“Oho… well played, Madoka. But look here, Natsuki—I shall feed you too! Aah!”
On Natsuki’s right, Koume slammed down her empty beer glass, scooped up some tofu with a spoon, and—like she was challenging Madoka—held it out toward him.
“Ah—aaah… hot! Wait, that’s hot! Blow on it—blow on it!”
“Ooh, my bad, my bad.”
The tofu was way hotter than expected, and Natsuki panicked as it hit his mouth.
But as a hero from another world, he endured.
Once Koume gave it a proper fuu-fuu cool down and fed him again, he was totally satisfied.
(—Yeah, I’d pay up to fifty thousand for this!)
It felt just a little bit naughty.
Dinner wasn’t just yudofu.
The table was lined with cold tofu, sesame tofu, fried tofu, simmered dishes, and colorful pickles.
Later on, meat and takikomi rice would be served too—and Natsuki was already excited.
“…Grr, I’m glad Madoka’s back to his old self, but seriously—he just snuck right into my prince’s seat.”
“Stop calling me prince, it’s embarrassing to hear!”
“What’s wrong with calling a prince a prince!?”
“He’s probably the prince of the Kappa Kingdom or something.”
Kirara and Onsa watched Madoka happily chatting with Natsuki, sniping from the sidelines.
Beside them, Shinonome and Kumazaki just smiled at the scene.
“…These past years have been rough, but seeing Madoka’s face again makes it all worth it.”
“Good work, Shinonome-san. Here, have a drink.”
“Thanks.”
Shinonome happily downed the sake Kumazaki poured for him.
Seeing that, Shuten Doji wandered over.
“Yo, nice way to drink. How about sharing one with me too?”
“Getting to drink with Shuten Doji-han… I must be a lucky man.”
“Hahaha, smooth talker.”
The two poured for each other and raised their cups.
“My daughter caused trouble. I’ll make it up to you—I promise I’ll lend my strength to you siblings and your friends from now on.”
“…Shuten Doji-han… thank you kindly.”
Both emptied their cups in one go.
“Whoa. I feel like I just witnessed a seriously important moment.”
Kumazaki couldn’t hide his surprise and awe at the sight of an Abe family member and Shuten Doji sharing drinks.
“By the way…”
“Yeah?”
“Over there—you see that kid staring at you like his life depends on it? What’re you gonna do about him?”
“…Good question.”
The three of them quietly shifted their gaze—only to see Yusuke Sado, Hero of the Earth, eating yudofu with bloodshot eyes locked straight on Shuten Doji.
〜〜Afterword〜〜
Yusuke: “Tamamo-sama, switching from shrine maiden robes to a gorgeous kimono… and as a loli, no less… I can’t take this, it’s too good.”
Senju: “Can’t you just eat your food quietly?”
Yusuke: “…Easy for you to say! You’ve got Tora-ppy naturally pouring drinks for you! You could never understand how I feel!”
Senju: “…Wait. You’re not even drinking, are you? Being stone sober makes this even scarier.”
By the way, it was Torakuma Doji who had slyly slipped into the seat next to Senju and was pouring for him.
And yep—Hoshiguma Doji and human-form Kuma Doji were there too!
Chapter 94: “Isn’t the Afterparty Fun?” ②
“—Yusuke-kun is staring at Shuten Doji like he desperately wants to be introduced to the oni girls.”
“Don’t narrate it yourself, Sado. And blink already, you’re freaking me out.”
Yusuke was staring straight at Shuten Doji without so much as a blink.
His eyes were bloodshot.
Beside him, Senju was sipping warm sake that Tora-ppy—Torakuma Doji—was pouring for him, looking pretty unsettled.
“…Senju-san, you’ve got it good. You kissed Tora-ppy, set a flag, and now even Onsa-san keeps sneaking glances your way. Before you know it, the Senju harem will be complete—I can already see it.”
“You can’t see it, because it’s not happening.”
“And quit calling me Tora-ppy, you creep! It’s gross!”
“See?! Everyone’s always so mean to me!”
Torakuma Doji’s protest made Yusuke start sniffling and whining.
“…No, this is all on you—licking Kuma Doji and Torakuma Doji like that.”
“That’s right!”
“Bea-bea!”
“Acting shameless toward my little sisters!”
“Uwaaaah!”
Senju’s blunt reply made Torakuma Doji, Kuma Doji, and even Hoshiguma Doji all nod in agreement.
Yusuke covered his face and bawled.
Just then, Shuten Doji—who had been drinking with Shinonome—strolled over.
“Y’know, I’m starting to feel kinda sorry for Yusuke. Hoshiguma, why don’t you just hang out with him a bit?”
“No way! Forget it! I’m not putting up with some guy who licks paws and feet in the middle of battle!”
“…Yeah, well, fair point. Even as an old man, I gotta admit, that’s a bit much.”
Shuten Doji couldn’t help but agree with Hoshiguma Doji’s blunt refusal.
Yusuke stopped fake-crying and started sneaking hopeful glances at Shuten Doji instead.
“There are plenty of oni who want human partners, you know. Just the other day—well, I didn’t meet her myself, but there was that oni who married a human, right? Guess that’s the times we live in.”
“Doesn’t matter. I still don’t want him!”
“Bea-bea-bea!”
“I already found my husband, so I don’t want this guy either!”
Senju pretended not to hear Torakuma Doji calling him “husband,” quietly sipping his sake.
Dealing with Yusuke was a pain, but honestly, dealing with Torakuma Doji left him at a loss too.
When his eyes wandered around the room, silently begging for help, they met Koume’s.
She was sitting with Madoka, bantering with Natsuki like they were in some romcom.
Senju put his hands together in a little “please save me” gesture.
Koume seemed to catch on immediately—she gave him a thumbs-up.
“Oi, Yusuke! —There’s a big-shot demon girl back in Mukaijima waiting for ya!”
At those words, Yusuke shot to his feet.
“—Is that true?”
“O-Oh, yeah. Seems she’s taken a liking to you, Yusuke. You might just have a shot.”
“—Ba-dump.”
“No, no, it’s way too soon for Ba-dump.”
Yusuke lit up like a lovestruck maiden, making Senju sigh while everyone else laughed, “Man, what a simple guy.”
As Yusuke started fidgeting with excitement, Senju tilted his head, a bit creeped out.
“Uh, Koume-san. Does Sado actually have any ties to the demons in Mukaijima? I mean, sure, gods and demons secretly live there, so it wouldn’t be that weird if he’d met one…”
“He’s definitely met one.”
“He has?”
“Yup. In fact, he met her this morning.”
“…Sado, ring any bells?”
At Senju’s question, Yusuke frowned seriously and muttered, “I don’t know.”
“The only one I met was Lilith-san—the one who said she’d introduce me to some succubi…”
“Wait, no way.”
At that bombshell name, Senju’s face went pale.
Koume grinned wide and confirmed it.
“Exactly! My mama, Lilith, has taken a shine to Yusuke!”
“That’s terrifying!”
〜〜Afterword〜〜
Senju: “…Look, I don’t want this taken the wrong way, but seriously—Sado, who’s usually so unlucky, getting noticed by Lilith… is that lucky or unlucky?”
Nacchan: “…Hard to say. But for Yusuke-kun personally, maybe it’s lucky? She’s a gorgeous, cool-type beauty.”
Koume: “As her daughter, let me say this—totally unlucky!”
Senju: “Wait, seriously!?”
Nacchan: “Seriously!?”
Chapter 95: “Maybe There Are Still Memories We Haven’t Recalled?” ①
Natsuki strolled through the quiet night streets of Kyoto with Madoka at his side.
The two of them wandered slowly, following the trail of fragments they had finally managed to piece back together.
A few years’ worth of memories still lingered vividly in their minds—but the cityscape itself had changed beyond recognition.
At last, they came upon a shrine that looked just as it had back then, and sat side by side on the stone steps leading up to its grounds.
“Things sure changed a lot, huh.”
“…Yeah. While we only grew a little, the whole town went and transformed on us.”
A soft nostalgia—tinged with a faint loneliness—settled between them.
Back when they were little, the road leading here had felt so wide, and the shrine’s steps had stretched on endlessly.
But now, to Natsuki in his third year of middle school, it was nothing more than an ordinary street and a short flight of stairs.
“It was only a short time, but I’ve got so many memories with you, Nacchan… Ever since Ibaraki Doji’s curse lifted, they’ve all been coming back.”
“Yeah… I don’t know why I’d forgotten too, but coming to Kyoto and remembering all this—it feels good.”
Still, Natsuki couldn’t help but wonder why those memories had faded away in the first place.
“…I really am glad you’re alive, Nacchan. But… I mean, Ibaraki Doji actually ate you, right? So how are you even fine right now?”
“That part’s a total mystery, honestly. I’ve got no clue. That’s the one thing I can’t explain.”
“A mystery, huh… Well, as long as you’re here like this, I guess that’s enough.”
There was no use dwelling on it.
So the two of them let the thought drift away.
As if by unspoken agreement, they turned toward each other and smiled.
“Welcome back, Nacchan.”
“I’m back, Madoka-chan.”
At last, it felt like he had truly reunited with his long-lost friend.
“So, Nacchan—what are you planning to do now?”
“If I can grab a Shinkansen ticket, I’ll head home today. Worst case, I’ll just fly back.”
“…You were reckless back then too, but wow, you’re still just as outrageous now.”
“Really?”
“Really.”
Madoka chuckled, and Natsuki couldn’t help but laugh along with him.
“You’ll come back to Kyoto again, right?”
“Of course. And Madoka-chan, you should come visit Mukaijima too. We’ve got gods and demons hanging around, but it’s a nice, easygoing town.”
“…I’m not sure a place full of gods and demons counts as easygoing, but… yeah, I’ll come to Mukaijima.”
Just like when they were children, Natsuki and Madoka linked pinkies and made a promise.
For the first time since coming to Kyoto, Natsuki felt time flowing gently.
“Ahh! Natsuki Yura, I finally found you!”
“Huh?”
“…Ashiya Doman-sama?”
In the distance, Ashiya Doman was waving and calling out to them.
The two stood up from the steps and ran over to meet him.
“Man, I snuck out of work and got caught—my boss chewed me out. Before I knew it, it was this late.”
“…Wait, a big-name like you getting scolded by a boss? That’s kinda depressing.”
“H-Hey, Nacchan, remember—Ashiya Doman-sama took time off for Kyoto’s sake.”
“That’s right. Show some respect.”
“Heheee.”
“…Seriously. You used to be all shy and adorable, but now you’ve turned into such a little brat.”
“A lot’s happened… Wait, huh?”
“Huh?”
“What?”
What should’ve been an ordinary conversation suddenly made Natsuki and Madoka freeze, ears twitching.
They cautiously asked Ashiya Doman:
“Uh, excuse me…”
“What now?”
“You… actually knew the cute little me from back then?”
“…You don’t remember? When you and Haruko came to Kyoto, you two rented the spare room in my house.”
“Eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeehhhhhhh!?”
Forget about the memories he hadn’t recalled yet—Natsuki was far more shaken by the outrageous mystery of his mom’s connections.
His scream echoed through the Kyoto night.
〜〜Afterword〜〜
By the way, Ashiya Doman isn’t part of the “Haruko-love squad.”
He’s more like her best friend… and her bad influence.
Chapter 96: “Maybe There Are Still Memories We Haven’t Recalled?” ②
“Jeez, quit yelling. Haruko never told you?”
“Mom didn’t say a thing! Who’d believe she was hanging out with a big-name like you!?”
Natsuki leaned in on Doman, who calmly puffed on his e-cigarette.
Madoka’s eyes went wide—this was far beyond anything he had imagined.
That Natsuki had actually known Ashiya Doman as a child? Impossible.
No—more than that, who could have ever predicted that the legendary Ashiya Doman of the Heian era would still be alive today, working as a civil servant?
“Wait… then, was it you who saved little ‘pretty Nacchan’ back when he almost died?”
“Nope, wasn’t me. And it wasn’t Seimei either. You were covered in blood, like you’d gone through something nasty… but strangely enough, you didn’t have any real wounds.”
“…Huh? That’s weird.”
So it hadn’t been Doman.
And it hadn’t been Seimei either.
The reason Natsuki survived his encounter with Ibaraki Doji… remained a mystery.
“So, uh… what kind of relationship do you have with my mom!? D-Don’t tell me you’re her ex!?”
“Hell no. I’m more like… a bad influence, I guess. We crossed paths back in high school.”
“What kind of connection is that!? And why the heck were you even in high school!?”
“School life’s great, y’know. Didn’t have that back in the Heian era, so me and Seimei used a few tricks and slipped into student life. Totally worth it. The nervous first day, the scary delinquent seniors picking fights, me ending up as the boss of the gang, Seimei becoming student council president… and then, confessing under the legendary tree.”
“Why did it suddenly turn into a romcom at the end!? And the rest was straight out of a yankee manga!”
“For real though, like seventy percent of my school life was romcom.”
“Nobody asked!!”
“As for Seimei, he somehow became student council president as a first-year. We were always together, but I still have no clue how he pulled that off—and honestly, I don’t wanna know.”
“Abe-no-Seimei is terrifying!”
As Doman reminisced, Madoka hesitantly spoke up.
“Um, Ashiya Doman-sama…”
“Hey, hey, just call me Doman.”
“B-But…”
“C’mon, call me ‘Doman-han’ like your big brother does. Besides, I even saw you playing with Natsuki back then. Not like we met directly, but I knew about you.”
Doman let out a hearty laugh.
Madoka froze in disbelief—he had never imagined that Doman not only knew Natsuki, but had even noticed him back then too.
“If you knew about Madoka-chan, you could’ve helped him out, y’know!”
“Yeah, my bad on that. But me and Seimei—we usually don’t interfere with behind-the-scenes stuff. Ibaraki Doji’s clever, too. The second you try to kill her, she’ll grab a human hostage. …We kept an eye on things so nothing truly awful would happen, but… yeah, that’s just an excuse. Sorry, Madoka.”
“No, you don’t need to apologize. It’s all Ibaraki Doji’s fault anyway. And besides… I think maybe she was just lonely.”
It wasn’t quite a defense of her—but the words caught both Natsuki and Doman off guard, making them fall silent and wait for him to continue.
“Ibaraki Doji… she was strong and terrifying, but nobody ever loved her. That loneliness, that sadness—it built up until she couldn’t hold it back anymore, and it exploded into rage. When I got captured by her today, some of her feelings and memories spilled over into me.”
“…Madoka-chan.”
“Ibaraki Doji was… really, truly lonely.”
Natsuki recalled the final words Ibaraki Doji had left behind.
“Hah, lonely or not, everything she did was still her own choice. If she really wanted friends, if she wanted to be loved, she could’ve tried for it herself. Living however she pleased and then whining about the outcome—that’s just selfishness.”
“…Yeah, you’re right.”
“If you ask me, instead of messing with Natsuki or Madoka, if she’d gone straight to Shinonome, things could’ve turned out completely different. She might’ve even become a bridge between oni and humans. Sure, there would’ve been pushback, but she could’ve earned respect from both sides. The one who threw away that future was Ibaraki Doji herself.”
Doman’s words were harsh, but they rang true.
Everything that had happened was the result of Ibaraki Doji’s own choices.
“…Now that Ibaraki Doji’s gone, both humans and oni can finally move forward in a good way. Luckily, Hoshiguma Doji, Torakuma Doji, Kuma Doji, and even Shuten Doji have stepped over to our side. They chose to reach out. Ibaraki Doji didn’t. That’s all there is to it.”
Exhaling a puff of vapor from his e-cigarette, Doman turned on his heel.
“Alright, night date’s over. Come on, stay at my place tonight. It’s a cramped house, but we’ll make it work.”
“Huh? Really, that’s okay?”
“Haruko asked me to look after you. Tomorrow I’ll treat you to something tasty, so just rest up for the night. From what I can see, you’re nowhere near fully recovered yet, right?”
Natsuki wondered how he looked under Doman’s sharp gaze.
Truth was, he really wasn’t anywhere close to being back in top shape.
“Then… I’ll be in your care, Uncle Doman!”
“…Hold it! Make that Big Brother Doman!”
“Ehh—”
“Don’t ‘ehh’ me! My heart’s fragile, you know! Handle it gently!”
In the end, they settled on “Doman-san.”
After that, Natsuki and Madoka regrouped with Koume and the others, who were all nicely tipsy.
The Mukaijima crew, Madoka, and even Shuten Doji ended up crashing at Doman’s place.
—And that night. They had an epic pillow fight.
〜〜Afterword〜〜
Natsuki and the others messed around until Doman finally snapped and yelled, “Shut up already and go to sleep!”
Next time, after a little interlude, they’ll finally be heading home!
Epilogue: “Time to Say Goodbye, Huh?”
—And then, the next day.
Natsuki and the others were at Kyoto Station.
“Doman-san, thanks for everything. You even drove us around so we could buy souvenirs—I really appreciate it.”
“Eh, don’t mention it. But listen—next time, come here just to have fun, not ’cause of some bloody business.”
“Got it. And please come visit Mukaijima too, Doman-san.”
“Yeah, I’ll swing by on my next day off.”
“I’ll be waiting!”
“Seimei-san, thank you for looking after us as well!”
“Don’t worry ’bout it. But your body still ain’t fully healed—make sure you take it easy, alright?”
“Will do!”
After picking up souvenirs for their families and Tsukuyomi-sensei, then grabbing lunch, Natsuki and his group finally reached the time to part ways.
With them at the station were Madoka, Shinonome, Kirara, Onsa, Shuten Doji, Hoshiguma Doji, Torakuma Doji, Kuma Doji, Tamamo-no-Mae, Ashiya Doman, and Abe-no-Seimei.
First, they thanked Doman, who had put them up for the night, and Seimei, who’d stopped by early in the morning to check on them.
“Natsuki-kun, Koume-han, Senju-kun, Yusuke-kun… really, thank you so much for everything this time.”
Shinonome Abe bowed deeply, and his younger siblings followed his lead.
“C’mon, lift your head, Shinonon. We’re friends, right? And for my friends—I’d fly all the way to the ends of the earth!”
Natsuki and Shinonome clasped hands in a firm handshake.
Kirara, overcome by a sudden rush of excitement, swooned and plopped down onto a nearby bench.
Onsa cheerfully waved a “See ya!” to Natsuki and the others—while secretly slipping a little note with her contact info to Senju alone.
“—Really, thank y’all. Next time, I promise I’ll be the one to lend you my strength. Don’t hesitate to call on me anytime.”
Madoka was also saying his goodbyes to Koume and the rest, far closer to them now than before.
Seeing him healthy and smiling again—Natsuki couldn’t help but feel relieved.
Goro Kumazaki, who had been sticking close to Madoka and spending time with Natsuki’s crew as well, couldn’t make it to the send-off because of other business.
He did say his farewells over the phone, but ended with the bizarre line, “I’ll be training my crotch!”—leaving Natsuki completely rattled.
“Honestly, I wanted to spend more time showing Nacchan around Kyoto.”
“Shuten-ossan, thanks for everything. Next time, let’s have a proper fight!”
“…Hold up, this kid’s still after me!?”
“That’s the only part that feels unfinished.”
“Hey, you took down Ibaraki Doji. Just call it my loss already!”
“…We’ll save it for another time.”
“Ughhh.”
From the moment they met to the moment they parted, Shuten Doji had been warm and openhearted.
He usually avoided leaving Kyoto, but told them, “If anything ever happens, just call me.” It was a reassuring promise.
Natsuki and Shuten Doji sealed it with a solid handshake.
“I would’ve liked to treat you more lavishly, you know.”
“Tamamo-chan, I’ll come hang out again. Or hey, you could come visit Mukaijima too.”
“Hohohohoho. I rarely leave Kyoto, so I’ll just wait for you to visit me again, Nacchan.”
“Alright, then it’s a promise. I’ll be back.”
“Indeed. A promise it is.”
Natsuki shook hands with Tamamo-no-Mae as well.
He regretted not spending more time with her on this trip, but promised that next time he’d return as a proper tourist.
Right behind him, Yusuke was already waiting his turn for a handshake.
When he finally grabbed Tamamo’s hand with a wide, goofy grin, everyone else quietly edged back, unsettled by how creepy it looked.
“Hey, Natsuki Yura! …Thanks for what you did for my sis.”
“…Uh, yeah. Kinda awkward when you thank me, though.”
“My sis is finally free from all that loneliness. Now she can just rest easy. Honestly, oni, yokai, even gods—we live too damn long. Always end up overthinking stuff nobody needs to think about.”
Hoshiguma Doji gave Natsuki her thanks.
Her bond with Ibaraki Doji had been long and complicated, and their final clash hadn’t exactly been clean or satisfying.
But when Hoshiguma laughed it off, some of the weight pressing down on Natsuki’s shoulders lifted, just a little.
“By the way.”
“Yeah?”
“—Take good care of Torakuma Doji and Senju Nanamori, alright?”
“Hold on, I’m not Senju-san’s dad or anything!”
“I’m negotiating with the Abe family right now, but I want to send Torakuma their way.”
“Wait, what!? That’s a crazy development!”
“While we’re at it, me and Kuma Doji are thinking maybe it’s fine to leave Kyoto too.”
“Ah, I see where this is going! You’re all coming to Mukaijima, huh! Nacchan figured it out!”
“…Also, do something about Yusuke Sado. He’s practically oozing jealousy over Senju Nanamori.”
Hoshiguma Doji’s gaze shifted toward Yusuke.
The guy had just finished shaking Tamamo’s hand, and now he was biting down on a handkerchief while glaring at Senju and Torakuma Doji—who was softly blushing as she said her goodbyes to Senju.
Honestly, Natsuki was less concerned about Yusuke’s jealousy and more shocked that people actually bite handkerchiefs out of frustration.
He decided it was best to just pretend he hadn’t seen it.
“Madoka-chan.”
“Nacchan.”
After all the farewells, the time had finally come for Natsuki and Madoka to part ways too.
They had already exchanged contact info, so they could talk anytime.
But the thought of not seeing each other for a while still left a pang of loneliness.
They still hadn’t made up for all the time they had lost apart.
“Madoka-chan, see you again.”
“Yeah!”
Natsuki reached out for a handshake—
But instead, Madoka pulled him into a tight hug.
“I’ll come visit… so you come see me again too, Nacchan.”
“Of course!”
And so, Natsuki Yura defeated Ibaraki Doji and was able to safely reunite with Madoka Abe.
“See ya!”
As the Shinkansen pulled away, Natsuki and the others waved from the window, and everyone on the platform waved back.
Their time in Kyoto—long, yet fleeting—had come to an end.
〜〜Afterword〜〜
Koume: “Ginko told me to record Nacchan and Madoka’s exchange on video… but what’s the point of that? Moments like these hit harder when you see them live, don’t they?”
And with that, their long two days came to a close.
The 17th day since returning from the other world still has a bit more left to unfold!
Chapter 96.5: Interlude – “Isn’t This Just a Drunk Mammon-Mammon?”
—Somewhere in Aomori
“I’m hoooome, mammon-mammon!”
“Ugh, you reek of booze!? Hold up, Mammon, you drank way too much! I’ve never seen you this drunk and cheerful—wait, actually, yeah, I kinda have.”
Samael froze in shock when Mammon came flying back from Aomori, reeking of alcohol.
But what really made her eyes widen was his outfit.
Her voice trembled as she asked:
“…Why, in this Reiwa era, are you coming home with a souvenir bag in one hand and a necktie tied around your head!? People like that went extinct! That’s peak Showa uncle! At best, early Heisei!”
“Mammooon~. Who would’ve thought that, in order to mammon-mammon the peace of the universe, this Mammon would get mammon-mammoned straight into another world, mammon-mammon.”
“Wait—what? What do you mean, another world!?”
At the sudden mention of “another world,” Samael’s hand froze mid-motion as she sat at the round table, drinking while editing a video.
“Actually… mammon was mammon with mammon-mammon, and then mammon-mammon turned into mammon-mammon, so now it’s all mammon-mammon.”
“There’s no way that makes any sense! C’mon, I wanted to go to space too! What was it—the Dopnnyanya Pirates? Those space pirates sounded awesome! I could’ve unleashed my sealed power out there in the cosmos!”
“Mammon-mammon, even more mammon-mammon, totally mammon-mammon!”
“That’s not chuunibyou! I’ve graduated from that phase already!”
Samael snapped a quick picture of the drunk Mammon, then went to the fridge, grabbed a bottle of mineral water, and handed it over.
“Mammon-mammon.”
Mammon gulped it down, while Samael frowned in thought.
(Hmm… He’s not the type to lie, but he’s hammered. No way he really went to another world, right? Besides, flying around drunk—that’s basically drinking and driving, isn’t it?)
Samael was curious about the “other world” part, but Mammon’s drunken rambling wasn’t exactly convincing.
Worlds were separated by dimensional barriers. To actually cross between them, you’d need interference from some higher being like God… or maybe a miracle.
“Mammomammomammon’s mammon is mammon-mammon with mammomon-mammomo!”
“…Huh? You brought back a souvenir from another world? Fine then, show me.”
“Maaammoooon!”
Mammon spread his “souvenirs” all across the floor.
Samael was left utterly speechless.
“Whoa, hold up! A bloodstained crown? A cursed-looking sword? Some random monster head!? I don’t need this junk! It’s all garbage! My collection’s way cooler than this! …Wait, no—if it really is from another world, then it’s got value… except there’s no way to prove it! Damn it, seriously, what even is—hey! Don’t just fall asleep in the entryway!”
Apparently satisfied, Mammon flopped over and conked out right there.
“…Honestly, I would’ve preferred space souvenirs. Like, y’know, a laser gun that shoots beams or something.”
Feeling a little disappointed, Samael decided that next time something space-related went down, she was definitely going too.
She hoisted Mammon onto her shoulder and carried him to his room.
No bed, but a thick futon mattress was laid out, so she dropped him there and set a bottle of mineral water by his side.
“Alright, guess I’ll crash too.”
She figured she’d grill him about this “other world” business in the morning.
For now, Samael grabbed a beer from the fridge, downed it in one go, and headed back to her room.
—By the way, when she uploaded a short video of drunk Mammon that night, it went insanely viral.
〜〜Afterword〜〜
The very first Samatan & Mammon-Mammon of 2024!
Chapter EX: “Character Introductions, Right?” ②
■ Natsuki Yura — 14 years old
Nickname: Nacchan.
A god-slaying hero who returned from another world. Chosen by the Holy Sword, and also carries the title of “Hero of the Sea.”
Lately, he’s been switching jobs into things like “Kappa Hero” or even “Galaxy Kappa Hero.”
Since his body’s still young, he can’t fully handle his power yet, but little by little he’s regaining it.
That said, whenever he claims things like, “I’m at about ~% power now,” it’s usually complete nonsense.
He’s nowhere near his prime.
At first glance, he looks like a normal middle schooler, but his words and actions scream “God of Destruction.”
■ Holy Sword-san
★ Tsundere ★
The holy sword that awaited Natsuki in the other world.
Known as the “Thunder Sword,” though that isn’t its true name.
It carries the power of lightning, which it lends to Natsuki.
However, it doesn’t let him freely use the “Hero of the Sea” powers—he has to get permission first.
Because of that, he still can’t wield those abilities to their fullest.
Its true power remains largely unknown.
■ Haruko Yura — ?? years old
Natsuki’s mother.
Her circle of friends is straight out of a fantasy story.
Her job, though, is perfectly ordinary—she works as a neighborhood doctor and nurse.
■ Koume Lucifer — ??
Daughter of Demon Lord Satan and Lilith, alive since before Christ.
The youngest of the four Lucifer siblings, and the second daughter.
A stunning beauty with killer legs.
A cheerful older-sister type, currently (without realizing it) shaping Natsuki’s preferences.
Also a survivor of being split clean in half.
■ Ginko Aoyama — 20 years old
Works in the Special Disaster Division of the police, handling all things supernatural.
Obsessed with cursed swords, and honestly just loves cutting things in general.
Among the psychic-world crowd she’s notorious as a total “wild child.”
Quick on her feet—sometimes the old man, sometimes the clown, depending on the moment.
She didn’t play a huge role in this volume, but in the interludes she’d been ridiculously busy with space and other worlds.
Looooves alcohol.
■ Jack Randock Jasper Williamson Chamber Hanamaki — ??
A resident of another star system. A Gray alien.
Currently staying with the Yura family on a premarital honeymoon trip with his fiancée, Nancy.
Normally levelheaded, but when he takes the wheel of his spaceship he gets a little reckless.
Despite that, he’s basically one of the series’ moral compasses.
His father is a big shot back on their planet, and his little sister Jessie has also come to Earth.
■ Nancy Peety Lottrott Nigelmary Akaboshi — ??
Also a Gray alien from the same planet as Jack.
Jack’s fiancée, temporarily lodging with the Yura family.
She eagerly helps out with meals and even makes Natsuki’s lunchboxes.
She acts as the “second moral compass” of the series.
Her hobby is studying the cultures and civilizations of other planets.
■ Johnny Drannoc Jasper Williamson Chamber Hanamaki — ?? years old
Jack’s father—and a very important figure on their planet.
He’s also an author, with delightfully dubious titles such as:
-Beginner’s Guide to Proper Cattle Abduction
-Abductions Aren’t Scary
-Starting Cattle Mutilation from Zero
-It’s Never Too Late to Start Kidnapping Humans
-How to Spot Humans Nobody Will Miss: An Intro.
■ Jessie Randock Jasper Williamson Chamber Hanamaki — ?? years old
Jack’s younger sister.
Her ship was hijacked by space pirates, but she was rescued by her brother, Kazuto, and Natsuki. In that moment, her heart went thump for Kazuto.
Now she works as an instructor with the Minazuki family and has reunited with him.
She’s been actively texting him ever since.
■ Bob Morales Wynn Darner Sutomii Makihara — ?? years old
A big, burly cop with a baton he loves to swing around. Once pulled Jack over for speeding.
After teaming up with Natsuki and the others for a whole movie-length rampage, he wiped out a notorious pirate crew and got promoted.
Then, after another movie’s worth of chaos alongside Ginko and the gang, he became ridiculously famous.
Basically looks like he walked straight out of an American drama series.
■ Kazuto Miyahara — 13 years old
Natsuki’s childhood friend, and the true moral compass of the story.
Right now, both Amaterasu-Omikami and Jessie are clearly crushing on him, and Samael might be in the running too.
He’s got the specs to dominate even in space, and though his powers haven’t fully bloomed, he carries the potential of a hero.
■ Miyahara… uh, somebody.
A really tiny person. That’s about it.
■ Anzu Ayakawa — 13 years old
Former stepsister. Not technically a childhood friend, but insists on acting like one anyway.
Made contact with Zekkun, the so-called God of Despair.
■ Asuka Matsushima — 14 years old
Calls herself a childhood friend, but nope—not actually one.
Pulled way too many reckless stunts, and as a result she’s been forced to transfer schools.
■ Sayaka Onishi — 20 years old
Not a childhood friend, but used to be a private tutor.
She’s one of the few who really did take some damage along the way, but she’s on her way to recovery—and is set to find happiness in the end.
■ Kaya Minazuki — ?? years old
Head of the Minazuki family, and mother of Mio and Miyako.
Leader of the clan that worships the local land-god Mizuchi, and from her bond with Mizuchi, Mio was born.
Currently overwhelmed with requests from other families who heard Amaterasu-Omikami is staying at her house—everyone’s begging for an audience.
■ Mio Minazuki — 16 years old
Looks like a gal on the outside, but deep down she’s serious and sincere.
Half-god, half-human.
Now training as a psychic after being freed from the fate of a sacrifice.
■ Miyako Minazuki — 14 years old
A textbook siscon.
Also survived the whole “split in half” ordeal.
Somehow managed to win over Amaterasu-Omikami.
Now friends with Natsuki and Kazuto, building a strong, positive bond.
Currently maturing on the emotional side.
■ Seiun Minazuki — ?? years old
One of the Minazuki family elders and a trusted advisor.
Always stuck in the trenches helping Kaya deal with endless problems.
■ Unkai Minazuki — ?? years old
Another Minazuki elder.
Acts like a grandmother to both Mio and Amaterasu—training Mio in spiritual powers while fussing over the sun goddess.
Surprisingly fierce and aggressive for her age.
■ Mizuchi
The land god of Mukaijima City.
Over the ages, people stopped worshipping him, yet he continued working tirelessly for their sake—until the corruption piled up so much that he nearly lost his sanity.
In the end, thanks to Natsuki, he didn’t have to harm his own daughter, and he was able to pass away at peace.
Later, his soul was retrieved by Izanagi-no-Mikoto.
■ Senju Nanamori — 23 years old
Born into the prestigious Nanamori family. Though an illegitimate child, he inherited the “Mystic Eyes” for the first time since the family’s founder.
A dependable big-brother type and one of the few rare straight men among this cast of lunatics.
After Ashiya Doman fine-tuned his Mystic Eyes, with training he’ll eventually be able to use them freely.
Already went full powerhouse in space alongside Natsuki and Jack.
Currently raising flags with both Onsa Abe and Torakuma Doji.
■ Yusuke Sado — 18 years old
Summoned to the same world after Natsuki, carrying the title of “Hero of the Earth.”
Went through hell and back, but is slowly working to overcome it.
Has a serious thing for non-human girls—and without realizing it, he’s been raising flags with some very big names.
His personality doesn’t exactly fit battle, but when he gets serious, he’s surprisingly strong.
These days, he leans into self-deprecating jokes and has stopped hiding his “preferences.”
Lives with kind, gentle parents and a tsundere stepsister.
■ Seishiro Kanna — 26 years old
He was meant to be the heir of the Kanna family… until Ginko stole Hanako, the spirit sword passed down in their bloodline. Losing both his position and his fiancée, he set out on a path of revenge.
Guided by the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi, he snatched it up and stormed straight into Mukaijima City, ready to unleash vengeance—only to be defeated by Natsuki.
This ended up sparking Natsuki’s clash with Susanoo-no-Mikoto.
Afterward, Susanoo himself entrusted him with the Totsuka-no-Tsurugi, and Tsukuyomi gave him not only a divine blade but also his contact info… which, unintentionally, served as a massive “take that” to his entire clan.
Now, he’s stuck in a bizarre situation: actively pursued by his ex-fiancée’s younger sisters—while also being possessed by the divine sword.
■ Yoshimasa Kanna — 5 years old
Seishiro’s nephew.
A good kid who’s growing up by treating his parents as examples of what not to be.
Already crazy talented—he dual-wielded pistols in space, handled bomb disposal, and proved himself way too capable for his age.
■ Matsuri Kazama — 16 years old
The younger sister of Seishiro’s former fiancée, second daughter of the Kazama family.
She admired Seishiro deeply.
Thanks to her older sister’s mess-ups, she feels a massive burden was dumped on the Kanna family and genuinely wants to make up for it.
So now she’s throwing herself at Seishiro as a sort of “apology-wife,” determined not to miss her chance.
Her little sister, Yuzu Kazama, also adores Seishiro—but probably more in a “big brother” way. Probably.
■ Alphonse Michael — ?? years old
The eldest son of the Michael family.
Technically Koume’s childhood friend and former fiancé… but somehow ended up in a romcom mess with the three Norn sisters from Norse myth and built himself a harem.
After a whole lot of drama, he opened a shop in the shopping district.
Currently serving as Ren Kobayashi’s guardian.
■ Ren Kobayashi — 18 years old
Born with absurd levels of physical ability and spiritual power.
Because he was born into a poor household, he was abandoned. To survive, he used his powers for shady jobs while also sheltering other kids with similar backgrounds.
After losing to Natsuki, he nearly died—but was saved by a miracle from God.
Now under the care of Izanagi-no-Mikoto, with the children he once protected safe as well.
Currently living with Alphonse and studying hard to learn cooking.
■ Madoka Abe — 16 years old
A boy who once played with Natsuki in childhood.
Has a cute, almost girlish face.
Corrupted by Ibaraki Doji’s curse, he planned to kill Shuten Doji, believing Natsuki to be dead.
Freed from the curse, he finally reunited safely with Natsuki.
■ Goro Kumazaki — ??
A big, burly guy with a heavy coat of body hair.
Has an old-man face, but is still technically underage.
Currently… “training his crotch.”
Despite that bizarre hobby, he’s actually a very considerate and good person.
■ Shinonome Abe — 26 years old
Eldest son of the prestigious Abe family, born with overwhelming power.
Commands Suzaku, Seiryu, Byakko, and Genbu.
With his white hair and squinty eyes, he gives off a shady vibe—but in truth, he’s a sincere man.
To protect his younger siblings, he maintained a close relationship with Ibaraki Doji.
A bit of a clumsy type: in an attempt to win Ibaraki’s affection, he even trained as a host… without realizing that one of his senpai hosts was actually his own ancestor.
If Natsuki hadn’t shown up in Kyoto, he probably would’ve ended up starting a couple’s YouTube channel with Ibaraki Doji.
In terms of strength, he ranks just below Natsuki.
■ Onsa Abe — 20 years old
Hot-headed and quick to fight.
Specializes in body reinforcement techniques.
Got effortlessly handled by Senju—and her heart went thump for him.
Dotes on Madoka, and often hangs out with Kirara.
■ Kirara Abe — 17 years old
A gothic lolita girl with the power of charm.
She trusted no one outside her siblings, using people instead… until she met Natsuki, on whom her skill didn’t work. That made her heart go thump, and now she calls him her “Prince.” A little tragic, really.
Her very first love ended with Natsuki giving her an epic nose-hook.
She also dotes on Madoka, but feels conflicted since he might be a rival in love.
■ Shuten Doji
Currently living as Koutarou Osake, working at a construction company.
Became close with Natsuki after almost isekai-trucking him.
His true strength is so immense even Natsuki can’t see the bottom of it.
At heart, though, he’s an oni who just wants to live a laid-back life.
■ Ibaraki Doji
Ruled over Kyoto’s oni through sheer fear.
Attacked young Natsuki and Madoka, and grew far stronger after drinking Natsuki’s blood.
Loved Shinonome Abe, but in the name of that love committed countless cruel deeds.
Schemed to use the Abe family, though honestly… she wasn’t much of a planner.
In the end, she was defeated and killed by Natsuki.
■ Hoshiguma Doji
A tomboyish oni who refers to herself as ore.
A dependable big-sis type, trusted by the younger oni.
Terrifying as an enemy, but fiercely protective toward allies.
■ Torakuma Doji
An older-sister type who calls herself ‘atai’.
Has a bit of a rough personality, but not actually cruel.
Loves gardening, though her precious field got destroyed by Natsuki.
Shared a kiss with Senju—raising a very obvious flag.
■ Kuma Doji
A bear oni who can also take human form.
Lived off acorns and honey.
Gentle-hearted and kind.
A great cook, often the one in charge of household meals.
■ Kin Doji
A very “typical” oni, but showed a surprisingly soft side—like bawling his eyes out at the wedding of an oni he admired.
■ Tamamo-no-Mae
A classic noja-loli!
■ Abe-no-Seimei
Owner and number-one host of the host club Kuzunoha.
Currently considering a career change.
In the past, he was summoned as a Demon Lord to another world… and destroyed it.
Because of his obsession with fox ears, fox clans hold overwhelming influence.
■ Ashiya Doman
Haruko’s bad influence and best friend.
Owner of the house where young Natsuki once stayed.
These days, he works as a civil servant.
Got dragged into an accidental summoning and whisked off to another world, where Seimei keeps running him ragged.
☆ The Demon of Greed, One of the Seven Deadly Sins — Mammon ☆
☆★ Mammon-Mammon ★☆
Recently went on a tear in space and nearly destroyed an entire other world.
Now spreading his “mammon-mammon” brand across both the cosmos and the isekai.
Started dating a high school girl named Ako Mamon, and he’s been absolutely giddy about it.
Also rising in fame as a video streamer.
■ Samael
☆ Aomori’s very own Samatan ☆
Always getting dragged around by Mammon—but honestly, she’s having fun with it.
Also thrilled that her “Samatan” persona is finally starting to gain name recognition.
■ Taichiro Lucifer (Satan)
Enjoys ballroom dancing and is plotting to become the Yura family’s full-time househusband.
Koume’s papa.
A great cook, though he occasionally ends up in weird, pointless mishaps with Natsuki.
He’s gotten along well with Kazuto and the rest of the crew too.
Totally smitten with Mama Haruko.
■ Pureheart Lucifer (Isshin)
Lucifer of Pride, one of the Seven Deadly Sins.
Ironically, he fell from heaven because his name, Pureheart, made him snap and go delinquent.
Kind of a struggler by nature. Friends with Tsukuyomi.
■ Lilith
A succubus among succubi—the absolute top rank of high-class demons.
Koume’s mom, and their mother-daughter relationship is actually pretty good.
Runs a café in Mukaijima called The First Wife.
Seems to have taken an interest in Yusuke.
■ Amaterasu-Omikami
Once lived as a high school girl under the name Teruko-chan.
The sun goddess… but also dangerously close to being the goddess of “shut-ins and beer bellies.”
A hardcore Kazuto fan. Besties with Ginko.
■ Susanoo-no-Mikoto (aka Susa-Susa)
Recently became Nacchan’s new best friend.
■ Kushinada-hime
Susa-Susa’s wife.
Knows Mammon’s contact info and, surprisingly, has a pretty wide social network.
■ Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto
Works as a teacher at Natsuki’s middle school.
Actively hostile toward the new gods.
Constantly dragged around by Natsuki’s freedom-loving antics.
Despite everything, actually gets along well with his siblings.
■ Grandpa Nagi
Izanagi-no-Mikoto.
■ Grandma Nami
Izanami-no-Mikoto.
Pen pals with Granny Unkai.

Unlike the old gods or demons, she’s a new-generation deity, born in the modern age.
A goddess of love.
Lives a pretty sloppy lifestyle.
Her stance on fighting the old gods depends entirely on her mood.

A god of despair, born in modern times.
Always high-energy.
Loves scheming in the shadows.
Enjoys both causing despair and feeling despair.
■ God
Middle-management deity.

A true gentleman.
■ Odin
Chief god of Norse mythology.
Currently obsessed with Japanese video games.
A super friendly old man.
■ Nurarihyon
Leader of the yokai in Tono—always going “nura-nura.”
When he gets serious, he can turn into a total hottie.
