Chapter 04: “As If Charm Would Work on Me?” ②
“Huh? No way. Seriously? Why didn’t it work? My charm has never failed before…”
Kirara Abe couldn’t hide her shock.
Her Mystic Eyes of Charm, which even she struggled to control perfectly, had worked on everyone—even her own blood relatives.
Even her eldest brother Shinonome, whose spiritual resistance was in a league of its own, couldn’t meet her gaze.
It wasn’t just about defense, though. If by some chance she ended up charming her own family, she would be the one most hurt by it.
That’s why, out of concern for Kirara, her siblings had agreed to avoid eye contact altogether.
Still, a part of her felt lonely that she couldn’t even have a normal face-to-face conversation with them.
Thanks to her brother’s help, she now sealed her eyes with a special cloth. That way, she could at least keep the charm in check.
But this wasn’t something temporary. From here on out, she’d have to live her whole life constantly thinking about her mystic eyes.
Even if she fell in love one day, or someone told her they loved her…
She’d always have to wonder—was it because of her charm?
It was a depressing future.
So, Kirara had made a decision.
She would never love anyone outside her family.
Because at least with family, charm didn’t matter.
There was real love there.
Her parents never gave her any, but her siblings—bound together through both joy and hardship—had built something stronger than any bloodline.
And with that, she had thought it was enough.
She had thought it was fine.
But then… she met a boy.
A boy on whom her charm had absolutely no effect.
“Nope. There’s no way that’s gonna work. A mystic eye that’s just strong but totally out of control? Pass. And don’t underestimate my resistance, okay? If something like this could affect me, then I’d have already been brainwashed and flashing peace signs with a dumb grin thanks to the charm of Kazuto’s mom’s husband’s son—whose name I don’t even remember.”
“…Natsuki-kun, couldn’t you just say ‘my older brother’? That’d be way simpler.”
“That’s not how we say it back where I’m from!”
“We’re literally from the same place!”
They were busy bantering like idiots, but Kirara didn’t care.
She grabbed Natsuki’s face and brought hers close—so close their breaths touched.
“That’s what I’ve been saying. Charm doesn’t work on me.”
He didn’t blink. He didn’t look away.
He stared straight into her eyes.
Kirara’s heart pounded hard in her chest.
And in that moment, she knew.
—This was fate.
—He was her prince.
“I love you. My prince.”
“…Hah?”
She would give her love to him.
If he was truly the one, then she had no reason to hesitate.
Kirara gently closed her eyes and leaned in for a kiss—lips almost touching—
Only for a third party to explode into the scene.
“What the hell do you think you’re doing, you bratttttttttttttttttt!?”
“GYAAAAAAAAAAAH!! OWW OWW OWW OWW OWW!!”
A sharp nose-hook yanked her back in the most undignified way possible.
