Chapter 74: Epilogue — “Hey… Should We Go to Kyoto or Something?”
“Simmered rockfish, coming up!”
“Sea bream carpaccio, right here!”
“Beer’s hitting just right!”
“All thanks to Kazuto!”
“Natsuki-kun got skunked!”
“Sit up straight already!”
“Yaaay!”
“Yaaay~ it is!”
Dinner at the Yura household was lively as ever.
The table was packed with beautifully browned simmered rockfish, and sea bream carpaccio arranged artfully with colorful vegetables.
They’d used the larger rockfish for sashimi, and deep-fried the smaller ones and their bones to make crispy karaage and bone crackers.
“The white wine Taichiro-san brought goes wonderfully with the fish. I feel bad even using these elegant glasses he gifted us.”
“N-No, not at all! If Haruko-shan is using them, I’m sure the glasses are honored. Besides, the wine really isn’t anything that special…”
Natsuki’s mom seemed in high spirits with a wine glass in hand.
Meanwhile, Satan—sneaky as ever—was using the matching glass from the pair set like it was completely normal.
It was disturbing.
The Demon King had way too much game.
“Hmm. This wine Lord Satan brought is exquisite.”
“The glasses are lovely too. I wonder which country makes them? I’d love to pick up a set myself.”
“Indeed, Nancy. Shall we just buy out the entire workshop?”
“Oh my, Jack.”
Satan hadn’t just brought a pair of glasses for Haruko—
He also gave Jack and Nancy their own matching set.
Apparently, he was the kind of guy who could be considerate.
He even went overboard and handed out ridiculously thin glasses to Koume, Ginko, and Leviathan.
The three of them were already happily pouring beer and enjoying themselves.
“…Hey, Natsuki-kun… is it always this lively at your place?”
“After I came back from the other world, a few days passed and before I knew it—this became the norm.”
“…The Yura household is straight-up fantasy!”
“Right?!”
Natsuki and Kazuto were sitting side by side, happily chatting while digging into their rice—
The bowls were piled high, a gift from Satan, meant for growing kids with big appetites.
“So, uh, Natsuki-kun—how many days has it been since you got back?”
“Today makes day fourteen. Two weeks exactly.”
“…And in those two weeks, everything that happened was… what now?”
“Let’s see… A bunch of self-proclaimed childhood friends showed up, Ginko-san captured me, I sliced Minazuki-san clean in half, ran into Jack, beat up Senju-san, sliced Koume-chan in half, killed a local deity, smashed mammon-mammon into the sky, beat up Ren-kun, Satan dropped by to hang out, then Lucifer showed up too, met God, met Lilith-san, met Amaterasu-Omikami-sama, met Mammon, found out Tsukuyomi-sensei’s true identity, launched susa-susa into orbit, celebrated at a “Zamaa” party at Seishiro-san’s place, got a warm welcome from nuranura and the yokai crew in Tono, had a kappa carry a portable shrine for me, got in a fight with the Abe family in Kyoto, Leviako decided to stick with me, had a serious one-on-one fight with Thor the God of Thunder, ate dinner with Odin and the rest, went fishing with Kazuto and found out Posei-san is actually Poseidon, then Hotei barged in saying their characters overlapped, and on the way home we got ambushed by Kyoto assassins, but Tsukuyomi-sensei showed up to help—and now I’m here, eating dinner.”
“—What the hell!?” Wait—Minazuki-san got cut in half!? Koume-san too!? And what do you even mean by Nurarihyon, kappa shrines, God of Thunder Thor, and the Abe family from Kyoto!? I don’t get any of that!”
“Hahahahaha. Sure, it’s been intense, but honestly, it’s way more fun than dealing with all the crap and trash people back in the other world. So I’m fine.”
“Okay… I think I’m starting to really want to learn more about your other world and those otherworlders…”
Before he realized it, April was almost over,
And Golden Week was just around the corner.
Natsuki wanted to go on a trip with everyone—
But every time he pictured it, all he could see was another incident,
Getting caught up in some wild event,
And ending up in another life-or-death battle with some big-name deity.
So his current plan was to just relax at home.
That said, Koume, Jack, and the others really wanted to go on a family vacation,
So he was still undecided.
He’d hoped for something like a chill space trip—somewhere with no big-name gods—
But he had no idea how to explain that to his mom, so that was a hard pass.
More than anything, even if there weren’t any famous names involved,
He had the sinking feeling that another movie trilogy–level incident was already waiting.
(…If possible, I’d really like to wipe out Shuten Doji’s faction, the Abe family, and Kyoto’s psychic group before Golden Week. If we let them run loose, they’ll probably start causing problems for tourists. I know they probably have their own reasons, but from a hero’s point of view, this is an all-parties-get-sliced kind of deal. Equal justice for everyone.)
Originally, Natsuki had intended to leave Kyoto alone.
He did want to have a proper talk with Madoka Abe, but not because of Shuten Doji or anything—
Just to speak to him as a friend, like they used to.
But now that the psychics from Kyoto had started targeting not only him, but Kazuto too by name—
There was no turning a blind eye anymore.
If something even felt like trouble, it was safer to crush it before it bloomed.
Especially if it involved supernatural powers…
Or threatened someone important to him.
“Hey, so…”
Just as dinner wrapped up,
Natsuki slowly spoke up.
“I’m thinking of going to Kyoto.”
“““”NO—YOU’RE GOING TO SCHOOL!””””
“Wait, what!?”
