Chapter 72: “Maybe You Shouldn’t Be Plotting Evil Stuff?” ①
From the top of a distant utility pole, Kirara Abe silently watched as Natsuki and Kazuto walked home with Tsukuyomi.
“Seriously… What a bunch of useless losers. Ugh, can’t they at least be a little helpful? This is why I hate so-called psychics who are all talk.”
Balanced with impressive ease atop the pole in thick-soled boots,
Kirara wore a tightly-fitted, frilly one-piece dress with a cinched waist, paired with a headpiece and a parasol—
A full-on gothic lolita outfit.
But even more eye-catching than the outfit
Was the thick, frilled cloth covering both of her eyes, neatly tucked beneath her sharply trimmed short blue bangs.
Ordinarily, that should’ve plunged her world into total darkness.
But Kirara’s eyes were far from ordinary—
Thanks to the special power they held, she could still see everything as clearly as day.
“Hey, Kirara. You sure it was okay letting those guys go?”
“…Do you not know? Natsuki Yura’s on the same level as Shinonome-nii.”
“That’s exactly why I wanna fight him!”
“Haaah… Even if you are my sister, you’re way too much of a barbarian.”
“Say what!?”
“It’s not just Natsuki Yura. Kazuto Miyahara was with him. And so was some unknown psychic. Even just Natsuki Yura is too much to handle—three against two would’ve been a complete disadvantage.”
“That’s ‘cause you’re the one who keeps recruiting weaklings.”
“I pick people weak enough that no one will notice when they disappear.”
The one talking with Kirara Abe was another girl—also balanced effortlessly atop a utility pole.
She had a boyish look, dressed in an oversized T-shirt with a hoodie thrown over it, black tights, and high-cut boots.
Her hair was cropped into a close-cropped berry short, shaved slightly in the back, and topped with a cap worn low and loose.
Her ears were lined with a ton of piercings.
Her name was Onsa Abe—the eldest daughter of the Abe family.
Kirara was the second daughter.
“Haaah… This really messes up everything. I was planning to start the Kyoto Clean-Up Project by gathering psychics from all over into the hardliner faction.”
“The plan’s been crawling along ‘cause you’ve been sneaking around behind the guys’ backs. Seriously.”
“If you weren’t such a musclehead, things might’ve gone differently.”
“You wanna say that again!?”
“…Ugh. Not even in the mood to argue. All I want is to wipe out every last oni from Kyoto… For the sake of my sweet, precious Madoka.”
“Madoka’s probably the type who’d tell you to mind your own business, though.”
“That’s exactly why I won’t! That’s what big sisters do! You really are the most clueless woman ever.”
“Say what!? I’m risking getting yelled at by our brother just to help you out, y’know!”
“Yes, yes, thank you soooo much.”
“Why you—!”
Kirara ignored Onsa’s irritation and leapt gracefully down from the utility pole, landing without a sound.
She had briefly enhanced her body with spiritual energy to do it.
In contrast, Onsa jumped down just as casually—without using any body enhancement at all.
“Let’s head back to Kyoto for now. We’ll need to bring someone stronger next time.”
“You’re really fixated on Natsuki Yura, huh.”
“…You do realize, don’t you? Psychics on the same level as Shinonome-nii aren’t exactly common.”
“Tch. Why not just beat him up and drag him back already? Besides, you’ve got those special eyes of yours, don’t you?”
“True,” Kirara muttered, just as she was about to walk off toward the station—but then she stopped.
Unlike her older brother Shinonome, Abe Kirara didn’t possess overwhelming power.
She couldn’t command spirits like Madoka could.
She wasn’t good at turning her spiritual energy into raw force like Onsa either.
She was different from her other older brother as well.
But her eyes—
They held a special power.
—Charm.
“I don’t like using it… but this is for my sweet, adorable Madoka, after all.”
Kirara touched the cloth covering her eyes.
“Wait, before that, lemme have my fight.”
“Yeah, yeah. Do whatever you want.”
“Glad we understand each other. As long as I get a good fight out of it, I’m satisfied.”
Kirara and Onsa planned to keep an eye on Natsuki from a distance.
Once he returned home and let his guard down—
That would be the moment to charm him.
It wasn’t an absolute mind control,
But Kirara could temporarily plant strong feelings of affection into someone’s heart.
If the gap in power was large, it could last for days after one try.
But if the target was strong, she’d need to apply the charm in short, repeated bursts.
Not the most convenient power,
But if used properly, it was enough to make someone obey her.
“I’ll make that brat fall head over heels for me.”
—But just as Kirara whispered that,
A shadow on the ground suddenly stretched out—
And grabbed both sisters by the ankles.
“—Hii!”
“—Wha—!”
It happened too fast.
Kirara and Onsa let out startled, panicked cries.
“Now, now~ Who’s the naughty little girl trying to mess with my Kazuto-kyun?”
