Chapter 71: “Did They Come From Kyoto or Something?” ③
“W-What… is goin… gah… cough, cough…”
The woman who seemed to be their leader still had some consciousness left, and she glared hard at Natsuki.
“What did you do, brat!?”
The men in black finally realized Natsuki was the cause of it all and lunged forward—
But they were way too slow.
So slow it was almost sad.
(Do I kill them…? Ah—no, I can’t just slice them up in front of Kazuto.)
Natsuki stopped himself mid-swing and instead released just a bit of magical energy.
He sent it surging toward the men in black.
They all instantly foamed at the mouth and collapsed on the spot.
He hadn’t killed them—only knocked them out.
“Alright, Auntie. Time for me to give you some options. I’m feeling generous.”
“…S-Stop…”
“You can either swear to forget about me forever and never come near me again, then die—Or you can scream ‘Screw you, brat!’ and go out fighting. Your pick. I recommend the second one.”
“Wait, she dies either way!?”
Kazuto, who had been silently watching the situation unfold, couldn’t help blurting out a comment.
“Oh no, silly me. My bad, my bad—looks like you die either way. Okay, let me rephrase. Would you prefer to die in pain, or die in unbearable pain after suffering for a while?”
She somehow knew not just about Natsuki,
But Kazuto as well—even though Kazuto had stayed behind while only Senju Nanamori and Yusuke Sado went to Tono.
Where she got that information was unclear.
Maybe it would’ve been better to torture her for intel…
But Natsuki wasn’t exactly cut out for that sort of thing.
Which meant—there was only one option left.
“Haah… You’re really terrifying sometimes. But still, I’d recommend not killing anyone.”
A light tap landed on Natsuki’s shoulder from behind—
Followed by a familiar voice.
“—Huh? Tsukuyomi-sensei?”
“Oh, you’re right. It is Tsukuyomi-sensei.”
“Yes, yes. I am indeed Tsukuyomi-sensei. Good evening, Natsuki-kun, Kazuto-kun.”
Wearing glasses and a calm smile, dressed neatly in a gray suit,
The man before them was Tsukuyomi Mikoto—
Their teacher at school.
“First, allow me.”
With a snap of his fingers,
The woman who was still barely conscious slumped forward, completely knocked out.
“I’d rather keep my presence off the radar, you see.”
“Wait… you came because you sensed I was in danger, right?”
“…Eh? Was Natsuki-kun actually in danger?”
“He was?”
Kazuto and Tsukuyomi exchanged confused looks and tilted their heads.
“N-No, it wasn’t really a crisis or anything. But still, when your cute students are surrounded by a bunch of shady adults, that’s a pretty serious situation, wouldn’t you say?”
“Cute students don’t skip school to go fishing with Poseidon.”
“Busted…”
As Natsuki broke into a nervous sweat, Tsukuyomi let out a sigh and clapped his hands.
Immediately, the bodies of the shrine maidens were swallowed into the shadows.
“I’ve hidden them. See? The barrier’s gone too.”
“Ahh, thank goodness.”
“You made the right call not forcing the barrier open. Had your magical energy really reversed the flow, they would’ve exploded from the inside.”
Natsuki had noticed that risk, which was why he didn’t force it.
But hearing it said out loud made Kazuto go pale.
“Now then, may I take charge of these people?”
“Uh, yes. Of course.”
“As a god, I don’t really get involved in anything related to Shuten Doji. But as a teacher—leaking student information is something I absolutely won’t overlook. I’ll make sure to get a few things out of them.”
“Thank you very much!”
“Please do!”
“Certainly. Leave it to me. Now then—Natsuki-kun, Kazuto-kun.”
When Tsukuyomi called their names, the two of them immediately straightened up.
“First, Kazuto-kun. I’m truly sorry about your brother. By the time divine interference was detected, we were already too late to act…”
“It’s okay… It was the path my brother chose for himself.”
“…Still, if you ever find yourself struggling, don’t hesitate to reach out. There will be times you want to talk to someone who knows the full truth. As both a god and your teacher, I’ll always be here—so please, don’t hold back.”
“Thank you.”
Tsukuyomi gently patted Kazuto’s shoulder, comforting him with a warm hand.
“Now then—The real problem is you, Natsuki-kun.”
“Uhh… well, you see—”
“I understand that you’ve been caught up in a lot lately, and that’s why you haven’t been coming to school. And though I probably shouldn’t say this as a teacher, I get that school might not feel like a comfortable place for you right now. Still, regardless of how I feel about it, there are other teachers and students watching too. So for a while, please just come to school quietly. Understood?”
“Yesss…”
“If you don’t show up tomorrow— I’ll spread the rumor in the divine realm that Natsuki Yura is best friends with Susanoo-no-Mikoto!”
“I swear I’ll be there!!”
Tsukuyomi had pulled out the ultimate forbidden move without hesitation,
And Natsuki surrendered without a fight.
Meanwhile, Kazuto stood there slightly overwhelmed.
“Wow… poor Susanoo-no-Mikoto-sama… that’s just cruel.”
〜〜Afterword〜〜
Susa-Susa: “Big bro and Nacchan are the worst… Compared to them… Kazuto’s such a good guy. —Wait. Huh? This is what you call a best friend?”
