Chapter 58: “Maybe I Won’t Lose to the God of Thunder?” ②
A deafening boom echoed across the battlefield.
Mjölnir—
And Natsuki’s forehead—
Collided.
“—Impossible.”
Thor had lost count of how many times he’d been shocked today.
Mjölnir—even broken—was still Mjölnir.
It was one of the strongest weapons in existence. And this wasn’t just any attack—
Thor had swung it with everything he had.
A blow that would have shattered not just humans—But even gods.
And yet—Though Natsuki’s forehead was cracked, bleeding—It didn’t break.
It wasn’t crushed. It wasn’t destroyed.
And instead of reeling in pain—Natsuki just grinned.
“—Magnificent. You remind me of Jörmungandr.”
Thor—
Comparing him to the one serpent he could never slay—
Spoke those words as praise.
“—Thanks.”
And with that, Natsuki swung his Holy Sword—Divine Thunder.
A diagonal slash.
■
Thor was cleaved in two. He didn’t fall backward.
Instead—He collapsed forward.
Even in defeat—His warrior’s pride refused to let him fall in retreat.
There was satisfaction on his face. He wasn’t dead—Not yet.
But it was only a matter of time.
[GYAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHH!!! I TOOK MY EYES OFF YOU FOR ONE SECOND—AND WHAT THE HELL DID YOU DOOOOOOO?! YOU CAN’T JUST KILL A FOREIGN GOD IN SOMEONE’S DIVINE REALM! DO YOU HAVE ANY IDEA HOW BAD THIS LOOKS?! SOMEONE, HEAL HIM! HEAL HIM RIGHT NOW!!!]
“—Oh.”
The entire divine realm shook with Amaterasu-Ōmikami’s furious scream—And at that exact moment—Natsuki finally realized.
“Oh, crap. I really did it this time.”
What started as a casual spar—Had somehow escalated into a full-on deathmatch.
As a Hero wielding a Holy Sword; Divine Thunder—There was no way he could afford to lose to the God of Thunder. And so—He had pushed himself to the absolute limit.
And now—
Things had gotten way out of hand.
He tried to panic—But instead—His knees buckled.
And he coughed up blood.
“…Oh. Looks like I’m at my limit too.”
(Idiot. You burned through 60% of your power before using mine. I’ve been keeping you from dying, but even I have my limits. If you hadn’t taken that Thunder God’s punch directly to the head, you’d have had way more stamina left.)
(…My bad.)
Still coughing up blood, Natsuki barely registered the two figures rushing over to him.
Koume and Ginko.
“WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING, NATSUKI?! I was too dumbfounded to react, but seriously—forget Thor, there was no reason for you to fight until you were completely drained!”
“…Koume-chan.”
“Exactly! Just—use some healing already! Teruko-chan! You’re a goddess, right?! Fix him with your god powers or something!!”
“…Ginko-san.”
[W-Wait a second! Uh, healing, healing… hold on, it should be… uh… ah, near the end, right?]
“Wait, hold up—are you telling me you have to check a reference book before you can cast a damn spell?!”
[I mean—I’m the Amaterasu-Omikami! I don’t need healing magic that often!!]
“AND YOU CALL YOURSELF THE SUPREME GODDESS?!”
Amaterasu was panicking somewhere beyond the divine realm—And sensing that, Koume and Ginko also started to freak out.
But then—A voice echoed through the space.
“No need for that, Amaterasu-dono. Leave this to me.”
A voice that shouldn’t have been here.
“That was a truly spectacular battle. I must admit—despite my age, I found myself excited.”
The owner of the voice—
Was an old man.
A tall figure, dressed in a robe with a wide-brimmed hat.
His long white hair and even longer beard carried an air of wisdom—
And yet—
The moment Natsuki and Ginko laid eyes on him—They knew.
This was no ordinary old man. No—
This was a god. And not just any god—A famous one.
“…You crusty old bastard! Odin! Perfect timing!”
Koume’s voice boomed.
“Forget your dumbass son! Just heal Natsuki already!”
“Hah. Your sharp tongue hasn’t changed, I see. Very well. That’s exactly why I’ve come here, after all.”
The All-Father—Odin—Tapped the ground lightly with his long staff.
And instantly—A gentle light engulfed both Natsuki and Thor—Completely healing them in seconds.
“Oh, nice! My strength’s back! Thanks, Grandpa!”
“Think nothing of it. My foolish son caused you trouble. I was the one who let him run off, thinking he was just going for a friendly spar— Only for him to go all out, nearly get himself killed—And still lose.”
Odin let out a wry chuckle. There was both exasperation and a hint of intrigue in his gaze as he looked at Natsuki.
“Father…”
“Thor. How are you feeling?”
“Thanks to you, I’m completely healed.”
“Humans are strong, aren’t they?”
“…Yes.”
“You are strong as well. But humans—sometimes—can surpass even the gods. This was a good lesson for you, wasn’t it?”
“…I’ve realized just how small I truly am.”
“Good. Gods have too much free time anyway. Use that time to continue training.”
“—Yes, Father!”
Thor dropped to one knee before Odin, lowering his head in deep respect.
“Still, I gotta say—I’m really glad you showed up, Grandpa Odin.”
“Amaterasu-dono hasn’t changed, I see.”
“Hahaha, not at all. But let’s be honest—You came because you were worried about your son, didn’t you?”
“…No. I just really wanted to test out the new card deck I asked my son to bring me, so I ended up coming to Japan.”
“…ARE YOU KIDDING ME?!”
〜〜Afterword〜〜
Susa-Susa: “I wasn’t cut in half! That means I’m stronger than Thor!”
Tsuku-Tsuku: “…Or maybe you just weren’t even considered worth fighting?”
Susa-Susa: “…………”
Tera-Tera: “HA! Sucks to be you!”
Susa-Susa: “T-T-T-That’s NOT TRUE! Nacchan and I are BEST FRIENDS!”
