Returned from Another World, Earth Turned Out to Be Quite the Fantasy Too. Also, Losing Heroines, Stop Looking This Way. - V4 Chapter 48
Chapter 48: “Leviathan’s Coming Over?!” ①
“Wait, are you seriously coming to my house?”
“Of course I am! Come on, let me meet Mother-in-law~!”
“…Can you not call her that?!”
After parting ways with Kazuto, Miyako had also gone home.
After all, she was only responsible for keeping an eye on Natsuki at school.
She had zero intention of following him home—Partly because she respected his privacy, and partly because the Yura household was basically a chaotic nexus of supernatural beings.
Angels.
Demons.
Aliens.
And now, even a freaking Demon King was living there.
The mere thought of stepping into that house made her stomach hurt.
So, she ran home at full speed.
“Look, fine, you can come—but don’t say anything weird to my mom, okay? She’s already feeling down because of Yuto’s death.”
“…Yeah, fair point. It’d probably be kinda weird to show up like, ‘Hello, I’m your future daughter-in-law!’ right after someone just died. Got it! I’ll just introduce myself today—keep it casual!”
“NO, YOU CLEARLY DON’T GOT IT!!”
Was he just incredibly carefree?
Or did he simply not listen to anything people said?
If he was listening and still doing whatever he wanted anyway, then honestly, that was kind of a problem.
Then again, considering he was a demon, it made sense.
Despite how much of a headache he was, Leviathan wasn’t unpleasant to be around.
In a weird way, his presence made things feel more relaxed.
Maybe having him around wouldn’t be so bad after all.
“By the way—”
“Hm?”
“Koume Lucifer is living at the Yura house, right?”
“Yep. And right now, Satan-san’s there too.”
“…Satan’s there as well? Seriously, that guy never does any work. I bet poor Lucifer-chan is struggling right now, picking up after both of us.”
“Wait, you too?! Do your damn job!“
“I don’t need to hear that from a delinquent skipping school~”
“H-Hey, my situation was unavoidable! I had susa-susa and nura-nura and all kinds of crazy stuff going on!”
“Anyway—” Natsuki cleared his throat.
“So, what about Koume-chan?”
“See, I am a demon who governs jealousy.”
“Oh yeah, you did mention that before.”
“But it’s not like I’m the jealous type. No, no—it’s just that my ridiculously cute looks make everyone else jealous. That’s why I’m the demon of envy~!”
“…Uh-huh.”
“But Koume Lucifer—she’s the only woman I’ve ever been jealous of!”
“Huh.”
It was interesting, to say the least.
Leviathan had no problem calling himself adorable—so to hear him say he envied Koume was surprising.
After all, if anything, he was the one who attracted envy.
Yet, without hesitation, he had singled out Koume as someone he truly envied.
That level of honesty was actually kind of refreshing.
The jealousy Natsuki was familiar with was much darker—a bitter, twisted emotion.
But Leviathan’s?
His envy was lighthearted—almost playful.
“So, what exactly do you envy about her?”
“She’s stupidly gorgeous!”
“Can’t argue with that.”
“Her legs are long, her blonde hair is flawlessly silky—meanwhile, do you have any idea how much money and time I spend just to keep my hair this glossy?!”
“Being cute takes effort, huh?”
“You have no idea! But you know what? I originally wanted to be a cool beauty like Lilith-sama! But no matter how hard I tried, I only ever turned out as just a pretty girl!”
“Yeahhh… sounds like you’re just wishing for the impossible.”
Just like how Leviathan could never be like Lilith, Lilith herself could probably never pull off Leviathan’s style either.
“But Koume—ugh! Just because she’s Lilith’s daughter, she got to be effortlessly cool and gorgeous like her!”
“Okay, okay, that’s definitely a compliment. So that’s what you meant.”
“Yes! That’s what I meant! I mean, sure, if I’m going to be a trap, cute is obviously the best way to go! But still! That’s that, and this is this!“
In other words—
Leviathan admired Lilith. But no matter what he did, he could never become her.
So instead—he envied Koume, the daughter who naturally inherited that same aura.
(Man, that’s so pointless… But honestly, I kinda get it. Sometimes, I wish I could be a little more shameless, too. If I didn’t care so much, life would probably be way easier. Seeing people who just do whatever they want… it makes me envious. Maybe even a little jealous.)
But at the end of the day—
I’m me, and I can’t be anyone else.
Natsuki knew that well enough.
So, he chose not to dwell on it too much.
“Anyway, you can come over, but don’t start a fight with Koume-chan, alright?”
“Okayyy~!”
