Returned from Another World, Earth Turned Out to Be Quite the Fantasy Too. Also, Losing Heroines, Stop Looking This Way. - V4 Chapter 43
Chapter 43: “Tsukuyomi-sensei vs. the God of Despair?”
“…I would appreciate it if you refrained from getting too close to my students. Parents are rather sensitive about their children these days.”
The quiet sound of footsteps echoed down the hallway.
Walking toward them was Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto.
Dressed in a well-fitted gray suit, his silver hair framed a face that usually carried a calm and composed expression.
But right now—his face was completely blank.
So devoid of emotion, it was impossible to tell what he was thinking.
Like a mask, perfectly unreadable.
“I never expected you to be foolish enough to step into my domain. She is a student of this school. A rather problematic one, but that doesn’t mean I’ll allow some god-wannabe like you to prey on her.”
“Oh my, oh my! Tsukuyomi-no-Mikoto-dono! How pitiful—cursed by us, your body slowly rotting away! You’re always one step behind, aren’t you?! Why not sleep for a few centuries to recover your strength?”
The God of Despair’s voice boomed through the school, loud enough to shake the building.
But not a single other student could hear it.
Because within Tsukuyomi’s domain, sound did not escape.
Everything within the area belonged to him alone.
“Still as theatrical as ever, I see. Sigh. If I could sleep, I would. But while I rest, you would run rampant. And that—I simply cannot allow.”
“Hahaha! But of course! That’s the whole point! Gods are such a pain! Some, like you, desperately try to kill us! Others don’t care at all! But Japan, ah—Japan is such an easy place to operate in!”
Tsukuyomi ignored the God of Despair’s words, brushing them off without reaction.
After all, it was true.
Plenty of new gods had emerged, aiming to erase the old ones and forge a new mythology—
And yet, half of the existing gods and demons couldn’t care less.
Some gods even joined in for fun, while others saw it as an opportunity to gain higher standing in this new order.
Tsukuyomi himself hadn’t cared at first.
But when Izanagi-no-Mikoto and Izanami-no-Mikoto ordered him to capture any new god he could, he followed their command—only to get burned for it.
From that moment forward, he had taken a firm stance against them.
“Japanese gods are born from nature itself. And nature—has no interest in the likes of you.”
“Oof, harsh words! But listen, listen! The Goddess of Love told me something very interesting—Apparently, Natsuki Yura-kun was a hero in some other world!”
“—You.”
For the first time, an actual emotion flickered across Tsukuyomi’s usually unreadable face.
Natsuki was his student.
A boy he found interesting.
He would not allow him to be dragged into this petty battle between ancient gods and their replacements.
And if they forced his hand—
He would erase them all, orders be damned.
“Oh my, such a terrifying expression! No need for that! Yes, we seek to rule over Earth—but unlike you, we won’t be satisfied with just this planet. If other worlds exist, then we shall reign as gods over them as well!”
“How arrogant. You are not gods.”
“You’re the arrogant ones! You ancient gods refuse to acknowledge us new ones! And that! I simply cannot forgive!”
“You abduct humans, incite conflict, and treat it like a game. That is not the behavior of a god—only a god-wannabe.”
“Ohhh, you really wanna go there?!”
A sharp glare passed between Tsukuyomi and the God of Despair.
“…Yes, my power has weakened. But even in this state, I have more than enough strength to erase someone like you.”
“Oh? So you’re letting me go?”
“If I fight you here, the school will take damage. You wouldn’t care—but I do.”
“…I don’t get it. Why waste concern on humans, born into this world like mere livestock?”
“That exact attitude is why you are not gods.”
A chilling glare.
“Now leave—before my patience runs out.”
The God of Despair remained silent—
And then, slowly began to fade away.
“There won’t be a next time. And while you’re at it—go tell your boss something for me. If you continue to underestimate humans… the ones who’ll be crying in the end—are you.”
■
“Good grief. So Ayakawa-san ended up catching their attention… Natsuki-kun really is a magnet for trouble. At least they didn’t take a student hostage.”
Tsukuyomi gently picked up Anzu, who had collapsed under the presence of a god.
In the next instant, he teleported to the nurse’s office, laying her down on a bed.
Her face was pale, but with a simple clap of his hands above her, her color slowly began to return.
“You met no one. You remember nothing. Understood?”
No response was needed.
With a subtle curse, Tsukuyomi erased the last few minutes from Anzu’s memory, ensuring she wouldn’t recall her interaction with the God of Despair.
“…That should do it for Ayakawa-san. Now, why the new gods tried to contact her is still a mystery… I’ll have to report this to Mother and Father after work. I swear, my job as a teacher keeps me busy enough as it is.”
Muttering complaints to himself, Tsukuyomi stepped out of the nurse’s office and headed back to the faculty room.
~~Afterword~~
Tsukuyomi-sensei altered a bit of Anzu’s memory—
But he couldn’t erase Natsuki from her mind entirely.
The God of Despair might not be done just yet…
