Returned from Another World, Earth Turned Out to Be Quite the Fantasy Too. Also, Losing Heroines, Stop Looking This Way. - V4 Chapter 14
Chapter 14: “The Kappa Hero Descends?” ①
“S-Senju-san…”
“You idiot, Sado! Of course yokai eat people! Just like there are bad humans, there are bad yokai too! Stop hesitating and get your head straight!”
Grabbing Yusuke by the collar, Senju scolded him. Yusuke nodded and turned back to face Madoka.
He still hadn’t fully come to terms with it, but he could think about that later.
“Sorry, but I was born and raised as a psychic. I don’t feel a thing for oni.”
With that, Senju activated his Magic Eye, freezing the small oni that was still chewing on Yusuke’s flesh. He followed up with a swift, spirit-charged hand strike, severing the oni’s head in one clean motion.
The head rolled across the ground, stopping at Madoka’s feet.
“Useless piece of trash.”
Madoka spat on the severed head and then stomped down on it with his right foot, crushing it completely.
Blood and brain matter splattered across the ground.
“Well, great. Now I’ve lost one of my shikigami, so I’ll have to work extra hard to catch more yokai.”
“You think we’ll let you do that? The bear guy isn’t getting back up.”
“…You’re surprisingly naïve, aren’t you? If I can resist your Magic Eye, do you really think Kumazaki can’t? Hey, Bear! Stop playing around and get over here already. If you don’t at least work off the cost of your bullet train ticket, I’ll be filing complaints with your mom at the Kumazaki household!”
“No way…” Senju muttered, turning his gaze toward the fallen Kumazaki.
At that moment, a deep, booming laugh echoed through the area.
“Fwhahahahahahaha! Sorry, sorry. I got curious since it’s rare to see someone with a special ability. I couldn’t help but test what it’s like to take a hit from it.”
“Didn’t amount to much, huh?”
“Not really. But from what I can tell, he’s not using it to its full potential. Probably can’t, right? That’s a sign of lack of discipline.”
“Well, well, so he’s just a half-baked amateur?”
“You… bastard!”
Unfortunately, Kumazaki’s guess was spot on.
Senju had never been able to fully master his Magic Eye. While it was usually enough to deal with his enemies, his control had always been incomplete.
The only exception to this was Natsuki Yura.
Currently, due to penalties, his Magic Eye was restricted. While the restrictions had made it easier to handle, it was still far from perfect.
Additionally, the limitations had reduced its output, leaving him weaker than usual.
But even so, he refused to use that as an excuse.
“Well then, it’s my turn now. Time for you to experience the sheer power of my muscles, forged both physically and spiritually!”
“I’ll show you another one of my shikigami too. Consider it a treat.”
Kumazaki and Madoka brimmed with confidence as they gathered their spiritual power, while Senju and Yusuke prepared themselves for the next phase of the battle.
“Listen, Sado. The Kyoto crew is the real deal. They’re completely used to life-and-death situations. It’s not just about their spiritual power—they’re fully prepared to kill. We need to fight them with the same level of determination. Got it?”
“I understand. …I didn’t want to use this kind of power in such a peaceful village, but if I have to, I’ll kill them.”
Senju and Yusuke both braced themselves, fully prepared to fight against humans with serious intent.
It was then.
Boom! A drumbeat echoed in the air.
“Drums?”
Boom-boom-boom, ka-ka-ka. Boom-bo-do-boom, ka-ka-ka.
“What’s with that rhythm? And… wait, why are kappa carrying a portable shrine with a kid sitting on top of it?”
“Oh, great. The serious mood just vanished completely.”
“Yep, that’s the end of it.”
While Madoka and Kumazaki tilted their heads in confusion, Senju and Yusuke were certain that the tense mood had completely vanished.
Meanwhile, carried by the kappa like a king on a throne, Natsuki was being paraded toward them atop the portable shrine.
“What the heck, kid? Surrounded by kappa, riding a portable shrine. Are you some kind of kappa king or something?”
When the kappa stopped moving, Madoka directed his question toward Natsuki, who was sitting on top of the shrine.
Natsuki widened his eyes dramatically and spat as he shouted:
“Wrong! I am not the Kappa King! I am the Guardian Saint of Kappa, their closest neighbor, and the Kappa Hero! My name is James N.Y. Kappa II!”
“That makes absolutely no sense!”
The kappa lifted the portable shrine high into the air, shouting, “Kappa! Kappa!” as they cheered enthusiastically for Natsuki.
Madoka, utterly baffled by the situation, glanced at Senju and asked,
“What’s with this kid?”
“How should I know?!”

For those curious: N.Y. stands for Natsuki Yura, not New York.
