Returned from Another World, Earth Turned Out to Be Quite the Fantasy Too. Also, Losing Heroines, Stop Looking This Way. - V3 Chapter 67
Chapter 67: Epilogue – “Isn’t This a Weird Dream?”
“Hey, Nacchan! You and I are going to get married, okay? It’s a promise!”
I heard a nostalgic voice that seemed so familiar, calling out to me. I was crouching down, and when I lifted my face, the sunlight made it impossible to see hers.
—Ah, this is a dream.
“Nacchan, you shouldn’t hang out with that girl too much. She’s definitely going to hurt your feelings.”
“Okay.”
The girl wore a straw hat and a light blue dress. No matter how hard I tried to focus, I couldn’t see her face.
“I’m the only one who needs to know how great you are, Nacchan. You don’t have to force yourself to be nice to kids like that.”
“Yeah. It’s okay.”
“Nacchan, you’re such a pushover. The other day, even when she was saying mean things to you, you just smiled. I took care of it later and punched her for you, but those kinds of kids never realize how awful they’re being.”
I still couldn’t see her face.
But just hearing her voice filled me with such an overwhelming sense of nostalgia that I felt like crying. Yet, for some reason, I couldn’t remember this girl’s name or what she looked like.
“I’m going to make you happy, Nacchan.”
“Yeah.”
“Ugh, you keep saying ‘yeah’ over and over! Say something real, Nacchan!”
My past self, feeling shy and fidgety, finally spoke honestly from the heart.
“…I love you.”
“Yeah! I love you too, Nacchan!”
It was a scorching hot summer day.
I clearly remembered the sound of cicadas and the bright sunlight pouring down from the sky. Yet no matter how hard I tried, I just couldn’t remember her.
That made me feel sad, guilty, and on the verge of tears.
And then, the world turned dark.
I realized I was waking up from the dream.
“Don’t worry. I’ll come find you, no matter what.”
Natsuki woke up in his bed, noticing he was slightly sweaty and feeling uncomfortable. He sat up.
He wanted to go back to sleep, but since he was already wide awake, he decided against it.
“Yawn. I feel like I had a strange dream, but I can’t remember it.”
Forgetting dreams was nothing unusual.
But this time, Natsuki felt a lingering sadness in his chest.
“…What is this feeling? Oh well.”
He opened the window to let in fresh air and stretched with a satisfied sigh.
“I should go to school today. Tsukuyomi-sensei told me to come, too. Now that I think about it, I haven’t properly attended school since I got back from the other world.”
Skipping too many classes would affect his grades.
After all, Natsuki was a student preparing for exams. Now wasn’t the time to be fighting fantasy creatures.
When he left his room and headed to the living room, everyone else was already gathered.
His mother, who had stayed overnight at the Miyahara house, still wasn’t back.
“Morning, Natsuki-kun!”
“Your hair’s a mess. Go freshen up in the bathroom.”
“Good morning, Natsuki. Another fine morning today.”
“Good morning, Natsuki-kun.”
“Morning. Breakfast is ready, nuranura.”
“Yeah, good morning, everyone!”
Natsuki greeted his family, freshened up in the bathroom, and tidied his appearance.
He joined everyone at the round table, where they enjoyed a delicious breakfast together.
“I think I’ll go to school today.”
