Chapter 05: “Expected But Still a Big Name, Isn’t It?”

“Is the complicated talk over?”

After finishing his discussion with God, the woman at the counter, holding a tray, smiled as she approached the table.

“Here’s your café au lait. I made it a bit sweet, so enjoy it slowly.”

“Thank you.”

The café au lait placed before Natsuki had a pleasant aroma, without any hint of bitterness. As he took a sip, it tasted wonderful.

The sweetness was comforting to Natsuki’s stomach, which was weary from the stress of meeting God, and felt soothing as the conversation tired him out.

“…Um, excuse me. What about for me?”

“Oh, sorry. Here you go.”

The woman turned her cheerful face toward God and placed a glass of water in front of him.

“Here’s some tap water. Drink up.”

“…Thank you.”

Despite the less gracious treatment, God quietly drank the water and let out a small burp.

“Right. I need to introduce her to you, Natsuki-kun.”

“Yes?”

“She’s the owner of this café, and as you might have guessed, she’s not human.”

“I thought so.”

“You’ll be surprised, Natsuki-kun. Guess what? She’s Koume-chan’s mom!”

“―Eh? Koume-chan’s mom!?”

Surprised, Natsuki’s eyes widened as the black-haired woman winked at him.

“Koume has been in your care. I am Lilith, Koume’s mother and a demon.”

Natsuki quickly stood up and bowed to Koume’s mother in a hurry.

“Nice to meet you! I’m Natsuki Yura! I’ve been close to Koume-chan like family! Nice to meet you! And, yes, definitely a big name! Another big name! After all, you’re Satan-san’s wife, so that’s a big name!”

“You’re a lively one. Oh, but I need to correct something.”

“A correction?”

“I am Koume’s mother, but I’m not Taichiro’s wife. We’re not married. Please don’t get that wrong.”

“Ah, yes!”

Natsuki could only nod, his smile fading to a serious expression.

God shrugged in a resigned manner, which was slightly annoying.

“Leaving Taichiro aside, please take good care of Koume!”

“Yes!”

“You don’t need to worry about contraception.”

“Yes! ―Eh? What!?”

Natsuki blurted out a response reflexively but felt he might have just agreed to something outrageous.

His heart raced.

“That girl, my daughter, hasn’t united with anyone even after a few days of meeting. Taichiro and Pureheart opposed teaching her about that stuff, but still…”

“God thinks that everyone spends their love in their own time, so we should watch over them patiently.”

“And that’s why she hasn’t had a boyfriend in over two thousand years.”

So, as Lilith patted Natsuki’s head and leaned in close enough for him to feel her breath, she emphasized her point.

“No need for contraception, and go for it with enthusiasm.”

“Um, well…”

“Lilith-san, please don’t corner a boy of his age too much.”

“Oh, look at you, God, saying something so understanding. I deserve praise for not saying I should coach him myself.”

With a sultry expression and licking her lips, Lilith made Natsuki’s heart race in a way that was different from dealing with God. 

He sighed wearily.

Truth be told, Koume has a lot of hidden backstory. Despite being the child of the fallen Taichiro and Lilith, she’s considered an angel, which complicates things.

We might touch on this subject someday.
