Chapter 74: “What’s Next for Ren and the Others?” ①

Afterwards, Mammon had a magic-sealing bracelet, sent by Lucifer via teleportation magic, fitted onto him, which sealed away most of his magical powers.

Even so, he still possesses strength beyond that of humans. But with his powers sealed and under Samael’s watchful eye, Mammon wouldn’t be able to do much, especially not to Natsuki. Plus, Mammon wouldn’t want to cause any trouble for Samael.

Ren was set to be taken care of by Izanagi-no-Mikoto, which pretty much means he couldn’t go against the godfather of Japanese mythology even if he wanted to.

Ren seemed to want to go to Aomori with Mammon, but first, he had to meet Izanagi. They would discuss his being under Izanagi’s protection, the children Ren is looking after, and what the future holds for them.

After that, it seems he’d be allowed to meet Mammon.

Ren and Mammon were given about fifteen minutes to talk together before Mammon, escorted by Samael, left for Aomori.

Mammon, who had grown fond of Ren like a son, must have been sad to leave. Or perhaps it was the daunting, endless challenge of increasing the subscriber count of agricultural video creator Samatan to a million that had Mammon crying “mammon-mammon” until the end.

Samael, for her part, told Ren she looked forward to the day they could live together in Aomori and exchanged a warm hug with Kazuto. As she departed, Amaterasu emitted a mysterious light and urged her to “hurry up and leave!” before they left.

Then, in front of the Minazuki family’s entrance,

“Hey, long time no see!”

The angel Alphonse Michael, and

“Hey, brother. It’s been a while,”

Izanagi-no-Mikoto, also known as Grandpa Nagi, stood together.

The arrival of these big names naturally had everyone at the Minazuki household bowing down.

“It’s been a while, Alphonse-san. And Grandpa Nagi!”

“Hey!”

“…It’s good you’re not intimidated knowing who I really am, brother.”

After raising his hand in greeting to Alphonse and Izanagi, he was met with a wry smile.

Leaving aside the members of the Minazuki family who couldn’t raise their faces, Ginko, who was still munching away on rice crackers served for the tea, showed quite the nerve.

“It’s been a while, Miss Koume… You’ve changed a lot, but if you’re happy now, that’s what matters.”

“…It’s been a long time, Grandfather.”

Koume, too, bowed her head and spoke politely in the presence of Izanagi.

Standing next to her, Ginko was surprised, saying, “Koume-san can use honorifics?”

“You don’t have to be so formal. It’s been a while, Ginko-chan. Never thought I’d be revealing my true identity and meeting the best friend of Amaterasu like this.”

“Man, it’s been one surprise after another for me! I was shocked to find out about your true identity, too. I’m all surprised out, really. I’ve had my fill of surprises.”

“Hahahaha! Ginko-chan, you haven’t changed a bit!”

Ginko greeted Izanagi more friendly than anyone else, but the Minazuki family started trembling, worried they were being disrespectful.

“So, this kid is Ren Kobayashi?”

“…Yes.”

“Hey, hey. You’ve got quite some impressive power there. No wonder Alphonse got knocked around so easily.”

“Hmph! I wasn’t even trying my hardest! I was just protecting the ingredients!”

“Don’t make excuses. Well, for now, kid, you’ll be living with me. Oh, and I’m a god, but you don’t need to worship me or be all formal. Actually, it’s okay if you even resent me. Just be yourself.”

“…”

Izanagi-no-Mikoto seemed to be considering something about Ren, showing a careful attitude.

“I get you want to go to where Mammon is, but you’ll have to wait until the kids you’ve been looking after get used to our place. They’d be anxious if their big brother suddenly disappeared.”

“…Yes. Thank you so much for taking in those kids.”

“Don’t mention it. I feel bad for being so reactive. Let’s save the thanks for when you and the kids are happy, okay?”

Ren bowed deeply to Izanagi.

Then, Alphonse stepped in front of Ren.

“Hey. It’s been a while.”

“…Yes.”

“You’ll be working part-time at the diner and cooking class I’m setting up in the town’s shopping district. I’ll teach you how to earn money the right way. Plus, you’ll learn cooking and household chores. It’ll be useful to know.”

“Eh?”

Ren’s eyes widened.

He must have thought he was going to get an earful or yelled at by Alphonse.

“I’m not dead, as you can see. Thanks to Natsuki, but don’t worry about it. Just be prepared, I’m going to work you hard!”

With a grin, Alphonse made Ren bow deeply, almost looking like he was about to cry.

“Thank you very much! I look forward to working with you!”

“Yeah! Alright, first, show me where the kids are. Let’s go pick them up!”

Alphonse, spreading his wings, put his arm around Ren’s shoulder.

As Ren was about to take off, Natsuki called out to him.

“―Ren Kobayashi.”

Ren looked at Natsuki.

Natsuki waved lightly and smiled.

“Let’s hang out sometime. We’ll eat, go fishing, and have some fun!”

“I want to join too!”

Kazuto also waved his hand along with Natsuki.

Ren, surprised at first, then smiled and replied with a “Yeah!” before taking off into the sky with Alphonse.
