Chapter 46: “Another big name, huh?”

Natsuki and the group quickly became good friends with Yocchan. 

Since they still had some time, they bought cup ice creams from a nearby supermarket and sat on a bench to eat them. 

Natsuki chose vanilla, Kazuto went for chocolate, Jack picked rum raisin, and Yocchan had matcha. 

A slightly chilly breeze was blowing, but it felt nice on their warm skin after the bath.

(When I was summoned to that ridiculous other world, I thought my life was over. But being back on Earth and eating ice cream with everyone makes me so happy. I never thought I’d get to experience days like this again.)

To be honest, he was relieved to return to Earth, but if he hadn’t been able to, he was ready to destroy that other world.

He would’ve killed everyone, demons or humans, equally, turned them to dust.

Especially the people from that world, he despised them so much that if he knew he couldn’t return, he wouldn’t have shown any mercy. He had no grudge against the demons, but also no other feelings towards them. They would have been the perfect target for his frustration.

“What will you do now, Yocchan? If you’d like, want to come over for dinner?”

“No, no, I couldn’t impose like that. I need to head back to Aomori soon, but I’ll definitely take you up on that offer next time I’m in town.”

“It’s a promise then.”

“Yes, of course. You all are my dear friends now.”

Natsuki and the group exchanged contact information with Yocchan. As the sky began to darken, Yocchan stood up, promising to meet again.

“Natsuki-kun, Kazuto-kun, Jack-kun. Let’s meet again. It might be none of my business, but I believe that even if you face tough challenges, you can overcome them. I’m sure happiness awaits you beyond those challenges.”

“What are you saying?”

“Hahaha. Just think of it as an old man’s ramblings. It looks like you’re going through some tough times, so I just wanted to cheer you up a bit.”

After exchanging handshakes with everyone, Yocchan waved goodbye and turned to leave.

Though it was hard to part, Natsuki and the others started their journey back home. 

Along the way, they remembered to buy beer and snacks for Koume, Ginko, his mother, and Nancy. 

Choosing these gifts because they were unsure what else to get, they knew at least the drinkers among them would be pleased.

“…”

Kazuto walked with his arms crossed, lost in thought, on their way to the Yura household for dinner.

“What’s up?”

Concerned, they asked if something was bothering him.

“You know, I feel like I’ve seen Yocchan somewhere before.”

It seemed he was pondering about Yocchan.

“Yeah, me too. I feel like I’ve seen him somewhere but can’t quite remember. I thought maybe he was an actor, but if he lives in Aomori, that might not fit. Maybe we’ve passed him in the street without realizing it, especially since his dad lives in this town.”

“That could be it. But, hmm, something feels off.”

Natsuki and Kazuto tried to figure out who Yocchan really was, but in the end, they couldn’t. However, they weren’t feeling bad about it. Yocchan was a good person, and that was enough for them.

Suddenly, Natsuki’s phone vibrated.

“Ah.”

“What’s up, Natsuki-kun?”

“Let’s see… It’s from Miyako-san.”

“Miyako Minazuki? Like, from that psychic family?”

“Yeah, that Minazuki family. ―Eh.”

Natsuki showed the phone screen to Kazuto and Jack with a grimace. The message read:

[Good evening. I had a fun date at the amusement park with Onee-chan yesterday. I’ve bought some souvenirs for you… By the way, a new land god visited us today, and it was Amaterasu Omikami! The Minazuki family is in total panic! Sorry to bother you, but could you please come to the Minazuki house after school tomorrow? Please!]

The message from his classmate, Miyako Minazuki, showed how chaotic things were.

Despite their disbelief at another big name deity appearing, Natsuki couldn’t help but shout into the increasingly dark sky of Mukaijima city, as if trying to reach the gods themselves.
