Chapter 14: “Wasn’t it left to you?”

“However, as your brother, I can’t just stand by.”

“Just because you’re my brother doesn’t mean you can butt in! Leave me alone!”

“Given what I’ve seen, it seems my worries were unfounded. But still, Natsuki Yura-kun, living with the universe’s most beautiful girl, Koume-chan, and not making a move… Is that really okay for a boy?”

“Enough! It’s none of your business! Besides, it’s not like anything could happen just a few days after meeting! We’re best friends now! And that’s fine!”

Lucifer was relieved to see that Koume, insisting on just friendship, and a bashful Natsuki, seemed to have a non-romantic relationship.

For Natsuki, Koume was too beautiful, yet he could interact with her as casually as with a friend of the same sex. Including Ginko, who was a bit sulky, saying, “Huh? What’s with this fun date? While I’m at work? So unfair!”

For an inexperienced, adolescent middle schooler, making a move on them would be like someone who has never climbed a mountain attempting Olympus instead of Mount Fuji.

Right now, a relationship like friends or family feels comfortable.

Besides, as Koume also said, they had met less than a week ago. There was no need to rush.

“Well, let’s leave it at that. It’s good that I didn’t end up harming a newfound friend just minutes later.”

Lucifer seemed intent on eliminating any man who came close to his sister.

While Natsuki appeared to be safe, the thought of possibly having to fight Lucifer sent a chill down his spine.

“Natsuki-kun, you… are you smiling?”

“You look like you want to fight this damn brother.”

“…You are fourteen, right? Of course, it’s not mature of me, but I’ve never met such a belligerent middle schooler before. Usually, anyone with a decent amount of strength would be scared just by my presence.”

Ginko, Koume, and the siscon fallen angel were slightly taken aback by Natsuki’s curious smile.

Natsuki touched his face and, realizing his lips were curled up in a smile, hurriedly tried to hide it.

“Sorry about that. I was just a little curious about how strong a demon executive could be. I mean no hostility!”

“I understand there’s no hostility… Hmm. It’s a bit rude, but, Natsuki-kun, may I take a look at you for a moment?”

“Eh? Oh, sure, go ahead.”

“Then, excuse me. Let’s see.”

Just as Natsuki was interested in Lucifer, it seemed Lucifer had become interested in Natsuki.

A magic circle appeared in Lucifer’s left eye.

As Lucifer observed Natsuki, he began to mutter, “Hmm, oh?” and gradually his voice turned to confusion, “Huh? What?”

“This is bad. I can see a future where Lucifer-san is shocked by Natsuki-kun’s incredible specs!”

“That’s terrible! If this damn brother takes notice, you might get scouted by demons!”

As Ginko and Koume worried about what might happen next, the magic circle in Lucifer’s eye disappeared.

Then, with a sweaty, pale face, he looked strained.

“I couldn’t see everything, but… in terms of sheer magical strength, you might be on par with the executives of the demons. Are all middle schoolers these days this extraordinary?”

“There’s no way that’s true! It’s just Natsuki who’s out of the ordinary!”

“T-That’s what I thought. Good. That’s what makes humans so frightening. Sometimes, there are people like you who surprise even me with their power.”

Lucifer looked surprised, yet there was a hint of excitement in his expression.

“Natsuki-kun.”

“Yes?”

“I might be willing to entrust Koume to you. Please take good care of her from now on.”
