Returned from Another World, Earth Turned Out to Be Quite the Fantasy Too. Also, Losing Heroines, Stop Looking This Way. - V2 Chapter 12
Chapter 12: “Wouldn’t it be fine if it’s flashy?” ②
“Gyahahahahaha! As usual, what a crappy name! It makes my crappy brother shine!”
“I don’t mind. Please laugh.”
The sister pointed at her brother, laughing uproariously, rolling over and kicking her legs in the air from the hilarity of it all.
However, Natsuki and Ginko couldn’t find it in themselves to laugh.
Pureheart was, by all accounts, what you’d call a flashy name.
There are plenty of names that become the butt of jokes on variety shows, sometimes crossing the line from “that’s a bit much” to “that’s just sad.”
Occasionally, there are names so bad they convey a completely unintended meaning.
But changing one’s name is possible.
However, just as with Koume, Pureheart was likely a name chosen by God, making it unchangeable.
Thinking about Koume’s brother, who must have been living since ancient times, bearing the name Pureheart for so long, sadness comes before laughter.
“Aren’t you going to laugh?”
“This… isn’t funny.”
“Koume-san… finding amusement in your brother’s name, that’s not something an angel would do.”
“What did you say?”
Koume had expected everyone to join in the laughter, but was taken aback to see Natsuki and Ginko looking so sad.
But Koume wasn’t the only one surprised.
Lucifer too had his eyes wide open in shock.
Perhaps, this was the first time he had encountered such a reaction.
A tear trickled down Lucifer’s cheek.
“Ah, what can I say? All this time, my family, friends, relatives, neighbors, even demons who opposed me and my subordinates, not only snickered but laughed uproariously at my name. Are you saying you actually felt pity for me?”
“Upon hearing those words, I feel not just pity but a sadness so deep it’s indescribable.”
“Koume-san’s name is actually pretty nice. It just doesn’t fit Lucifer, being a bit old-fashioned. But Pureheart… That’s like… on a level where if you were in elementary school, you’d be relentlessly teased every day.”
As Natsuki and Ginko piled on their sympathetic words, Lucifer wiped his tears with a handkerchief, then, overwhelmed by emotion, he managed a smile.
“I’m touched. Natsuki Yura-kun and Ginko Aoyama-san, you are my friends!”
Barely an hour had passed since they met, and they were already declared friends by Lucifer.
That was certainly unexpected.
“Look at that, Ginko-san. We’ve made friends with a big name.”
“What are you talking about? I mean, we’ve just become friends with Koume-san’s brother, nothing to do with befriending some high-ranking demon.”
Lucifer was moved.
Natsuki wore a slightly troubled expression at being recognized as a friend.
Ginko was utterly flustered.
And Koume, who had intended to tease her brother about his name, ended up feeling sympathy instead and puffed out her cheeks, no longer finding the situation amusing.
“Why the hell did big brother come to the human world? If you say it was just for greetings, I’ll knock you out!”
“No, of course not. If it were just for greetings, a phone call would suffice. However, as your brother, I wanted to be polite. I wanted to greet you in person, to see your face.”
“If you’re done with your greetings, then leave.”
“Actually, there’s another matter I need to address.”
“What?”
Koume looked puzzled, but Lucifer continued without losing his smile.
“Natsuki Yura-kun. You seem like a very nice person, and you possess considerable strength. Honestly, I feel a desire to battle you as a demon… but let’s put that aside.”
“Huh?”
“I want to ask you! There are tons of photos of you and my angel Koume-chan on dates all over social media… Surely, you’re not in a relationship or anything improper, are you!?”
It seemed Lucifer came to directly question Natsuki, who was close to his sister. Like Miyako, Lucifer’s love for his sibling was intense.
“Don’t come to the human world for such a stupid reason, you idiot!”
Koume’s angry voice echoed through the Yura family’s living room.
〜〜Afterword〜〜
Lucifer said, “To think you wouldn’t laugh at my name. Could this be… friendship?”
Incidentally, Lucifer doesn’t have any close friends.
While he has work acquaintances, he’s essentially a loner and a workaholic.
