Chapter 58: “Doesn’t ‘pureblood’ sound kinda erotic?” ①

When Natsuki got home, his mother and Jack, who had already returned from sightseeing, greeted him.

Koume had gone to the bath first, and cheerful humming could be heard from the bathroom.

“…Welcome back, Natsuki-kun. I swear I’m never pretending to be a bodyguard again.”

“What happened?”

Ginko, dressed in a suit, was the only one looking exhausted and sprawled across the table.

“Jack-san and Nancy-san enjoyed themselves since even a place like Mukaijima city seemed fresh to them, but being a beautiful couple, they attracted a lot of attention.”

“Ah.”

The foreign couple of Jack, handsome enough to surprise a Hollywood actor, and Nancy, as beautiful as an unmatched actress, must have stood out indeed.

“Koume-san, acting like a child, kept wandering off here and there, disappearing; I wished I had a leash for her.”

“Don’t worry about it.”

Thinking Ginko was too exhausted to discuss the “pure lineage” or the Minazuki family matters, Natsuki decided to open the souvenirs he had bought and start a conversation with Jack and Nancy, who were getting cozy.

The two seemed to have taken a liking to this town.

Despite having faced some difficulties, the fact that they had more good experiences than bad ones made Natsuki happy to see.

“Phew, that’s refreshing! Mama, can I have some milk after the bath?”

“Sure, just wait a moment. Oh, Ginko-chan, you go take a bath too.”

“Got it. Then, Natsuki-kun, I’ll be excusing myself first.”

“Ah, yeah.”

Koume, wearing Natsuki’s tracksuit, drank her milk with relish, audibly savoring it.

Observing her, Natsuki felt she had both similar and dissimilar vibes to the Grandpa Nagi he met in the evening. 

If Nagi was the god Natsuki imagined, and Koume was Lucifer, he wondered if such big names should easily dwell on Earth.

“Ah, that hits the spot. Nothing beats milk after a bath! Whew, looks like there’s some time until dinner, Natsuki… mind sparing a moment?”

“Eh. But dinner’s almost ready, and I want to take a bath.”

“You’re last. If you go after us, you’ll get to drink our bathwater.”

“I won’t!”

“…Is that so? What does that say about a boy your age? It’s like a beautiful girl’s broth, isn’t it?”

“Don’t call it broth! Ah, fine, if you’ve got something to say, let’s talk in my room, come on.”

Worried that Jack and the others might pick up some strange phrases, Natsuki pushed Koume’s back, ushering her into his room.

“So, what did you want to talk about?”

“…You met a demon today, didn’t you?”

“You can tell?”

“It’s obvious! That smell, it’s a succubus. A lower-ranking one, but one of the succubi I’ve been searching for.”

“Now that you mention it, you did say you were hunting demons.”

Koume nodded. 

“It’s partly to impress God, but I also dislike the methods of these succubi. Basically, I’ve been wiping them out, and there were a few in this town… I was worried they might do something odd, but you killed her, right?”

“Yeah. She blended in with my classmates. For some reason, she held a grudge against me and attacked, so I taught her a lesson before killing her.”

“No wonder I felt an extraordinary magical power. What was this grudge about?”

Koume asked while sprawling out on the bed, and Natsuki answered.

“Apparently, her magic was blown away the day before yesterday. All her preparations up to that point went down the drain. Plus, she got dumped by a classmate, so maybe it was out of spite?” 

“Ah, that’s typical of a succubus. But, there was this really brief moment when a powerful shockwave-like force covered the town. Most wouldn’t have noticed, but I am the great Lucifer, after all. Noticed it easily!”

“Really? The day before yesterday, huh? Around what time?”

“Didn’t you feel it, Natsuki? Around evening.”

“The evening, huh? That would be after school for me. Hmm, right when I was getting home.”

Koume, clutching a pillow on the bed, murmured with curiosity, 

“It’s still quite puzzling. Out of nowhere, an overwhelmingly strong force manifested, as if a doorway to this world had been opened. It lasted only a moment, yet such power could easily overwhelm the magic of lower-ranking demons.”

“Who possesses such immense power? It’s truly terrifying.”

“The most terrifying one is me, Koume-sama!”

“Hahahahaha,” Koume laughed heartily, seemingly unaware of Grandpa Nagi.

It made Natsuki wonder if perhaps there was more fantasy around them than he had imagined. 

While Natsuki was lost in thought, Koume quieted down.

“What’s wrong?”

“Well, it’s surprising. Despite being as powerfully strong as you, Natsuki, that succubus failed to notice. Was there perhaps a more tempting prey in front of her?”

“Exactly! That’s what I wanted to hear about.”

“What do you mean?”

“Do you know about the ‘pure lineage’?”

At Natsuki’s question, Koume’s eyes widened in surprise.

“Eh? You don’t know?”

“What?”

“I’ve heard the story!”

Just then, the door burst open, and Ginko, fresh from the bath and wearing Natsuki’s clothes, entered. 

Natsuki was unsure what to do about the clothes now being worn by the two of them.

“No way, I wanted to say ‘what a nice bath,’ but Koume-san! You made the water too hot!”

“What are you saying! The water should be heated to the limit!”

“Are you an Edo-period person or what!”

“Never mind the bath, tell me about the ‘pure lineage’!”

As Koume and Ginko were about to start arguing, Natsuki raised his voice a bit, and Ginko sat down to explain.

“Basically, it means pureblood. And no, it’s not meant in a dirty way.”

“Nobody was thinking that!”
