Returned from Another World, Earth Turned Out to Be Quite the Fantasy Too. Also, Losing Heroines, Stop Looking This Way. - Chapter 49
Chapter 49: “Surprisingly well-prepared, huh?”
“Welcome to the Minazuki household. We sincerely welcome you, Natsuki Yura-sama.”
“Thank you very much for the invitation.”
In a room of the Minazuki house.
Natsuki was in a tatami room decorated with a household Shinto altar.
At the top seat, there was a black-haired woman in her late thirties, smiling gently.
“I am Kaya Minazuki, the head of the Minazuki family. First, let me apologize. It seems that my daughter, Miyako, was extremely rude the other day, and I deeply apologize for that. Miyako, apologize.”
“I am very sorry!”
Dressed in a kimono and sitting upright, Kaya Minazuki bowed deeply, and then Miyako Minazuki, who was sitting near the top seat surrounded by the Minazuki family members, quickly bowed her head in apology.
Regardless of what she might be thinking inside, since an apology was offered, Natsuki decided to forget about it.
“No, it’s fine as long as you apologize. I also resisted a bit.”
Whether it’s appropriate to refer to having one’s body bisected as “a bit of resistance” is another matter, but since he managed to apply healing magic without any issue and everything seems fine for now, he decided it was acceptable.
He had no intention of making things worse by saying anything unnecessary, so he resolved to remain the party accepting the apology.
“It would help me if you could say that. However, we hope you understand that sensing the presence of someone with powerful abilities like Yura-sama suddenly caused us some confusion.”
“Yes, I understand that.”
“Thank you. I heard you were in the same third year of middle school as Miyako, and I appreciate that you listened to our concerns calmly and patiently.”
“No, no, don’t mention it.”
For Natsuki, it was somewhat anticlimactic.
He had considered the possibility that the whole clan might attack him all at once, but it seems they were not so rash.
Even though the elders were in the same room, they did not say anything unnecessary, even though they looked at him scrutinizingly.
“May I, head of the family? We, the elders, would like to have a word with him as well.”
“If Yura-sama doesn’t mind.”
“Of course, I don’t mind. What is it, grandpa?”
“…Grandpa. Well, it’s not surprising I’m called that. Ahem. Having power at a young age can lead to arrogance. I too have bitter memories of getting carried away when I was younger. But you seem different. You appear to have the proper awareness of someone who possesses power.”
“Thank you.”
“We want to hear from you because we want to be assured that you are a harmless person. Of course, you don’t have to answer. — What is the nature of the power you hold?”
Asking what his power is, he couldn’t simply say it was the power of a hero, nor would they likely believe it if he did. He was warned by his Uncle Aoyama not to mention being summoned to another world, as it would complicate matters, so he had no intention of revealing that.
“What could it be?”
“…My apologies. Does that mean you’re choosing not to answer the question? Or do you not fully understand it yourself?”
“More like I don’t know. One day, it just fell from the sky, just like that.”
“That’s impossible!”
The elders chuckled, but someone couldn’t hold back—Miyako.
Having experienced a taste of Natsuki’s power firsthand, she probably realized he was responding nonchalantly. And it seemed to anger her.
“—Miyako. Be silent.”
“But—”
“Do not make me repeat myself.”
Kaya cautioned once gently, the second time with a firmer tone.
Even Natsuki straightened up as if he had been scolded, so Miyako likely felt it more acutely. Though she closed her mouth, she looked at Natsuki with eyes that did not quite accept the situation.
“Yura-sama, I apologize. My daughter does not have the same level of self-control as you, please forgive her.”
“No, it wasn’t my intention to jest, but if it came across that way, I apologize.”
Kaya apologized, and so did Natsuki.
The elder asked again.
“Power sometimes awakens suddenly. That’s fine. But what do you intend to do with that power?”
“Nothing in particular.”
“…I see.”
“Personally, I don’t care much about psychic abilities; I just want to live a peaceful, ordinary life. I’ve learned a bit about psychics, but I’m not the type to work behind the scenes for someone.”
“I see.”
“It would help if you could just leave me be.”
The eldest-looking elder who had been conversing with Natsuki nodded with a lowering of the corners of his eyes.
“You have no obligations or anything of the sort, so that’s reasonable. As for us, we have no intention of becoming adversaries with someone as unfathomable as you. If you wish to live leisurely as a common person, we will respect that.”
“Thank you.”
“However, for us to gain mutual trust, I hope you can make a compromise.”
“A compromise?”
Natsuki thought they were understanding, but it seems the Minazuki family cannot simply leave him be without conditions.
He understood their feelings.
Some had been probing into Natsuki from outside the room, and when he released a bit of his magical power as a scare, he felt them lose consciousness. The elder must have noticed that as well.
“We would like to place a watcher by your side.”
“A watcher?”
“Please don’t take it too negatively. We only wish for a short period to ascertain if you can be trusted, to see if you are a person of integrity.”
Natsuki found it hard to respond.
The idea of being watched wasn’t appealing, but he could tolerate it. He understood the rationale.
However, it would be problematic if the existence of Greys and the angel were to come to light while being monitored.
“We could investigate using other people, but that wouldn’t reveal your true self. You wouldn’t like it if someone arbitrarily judged you as good or bad, right?”
“Just out of curiosity, who would the watcher be?”
“Considering she is a classmate, we were thinking Miyako could be the watcher.”
Natsuki glanced briefly at Miyako Minazuki’s face.
She didn’t look very convinced. It appeared as though she was merely following the orders of the elders, perhaps even thinking about finding fault in Natsuki as much as possible.
(Miyako Minazuki was confrontational and attacked me… It seems like it would be exhausting to have her around. Oh, right.)
“Sorry, but can we change that?”
At Natsuki’s words, not only the elders but also the head of the family, Miyako, and even Hiragi and Mio, who hadn’t been participating in the conversation, were surprised.
〜〜Afterword〜〜
It turned out the elder was more reasonable than expected.
Next time, it will be about an elder who is surprisingly difficult to talk to.
Your follow and review would be very encouraging.
Thank you very much!
