Chapter 45: “Isn’t a brother like this disgusting?” ①

While the Yura family was enjoying sushi, at the Miyahara household, the brothers were glaring at each other.

“It seems Anzu was under your care today. Thank you.”

“…You shitty brother. She’s your girlfriend, so take proper care of her.”

Kazuto glared at his brother Yuto, who was sitting on a chair in his room, while he leaned against the door.

“Anzu is a childhood friend.”

“…That’s right, now you have a real girlfriend. I honestly thought you’d end up with Anzu or Asuka-san, so I was really surprised.”

“A real girlfriend? Oh, you mean Noa-chan? We’ve already broken up, though.”

“…What?”

Kazuto had only just heard through Anzu yesterday that Yuto had gotten a girlfriend, and he hadn’t expected them to have already broken up. 

Even for a brother, this lack of commitment was appalling. 

“She was annoyingly clingy, so I just went along with it. Natsuki was interested in her, and as a childhood friend, I just wanted to see if she was a bad person.”

“You’ve got some nerve. What kind of childhood friend are you, using Anzu to wreck Natsuki-kun’s family!”

For Kazuto as well, the collapse of the Yura family’s household was an unforgettable incident. 

Natsuki’s mother had been very kind since they were young, and Anzu’s father was a gentle and good person. Natsuki had always been more like a brother than his own brother, and he had wanted him to be happy, but due to Anzu’s actions, the family fell apart.

Anzu often hurled insults at Natsuki, and Kazuto had always scolded her, comparing her unfavorably to his brother. At times, he even shouted at her in warning. However, nothing changed. 

As Anzu continued to demean Natsuki, Kazuto could see him losing interest, and despite his efforts to mend their relationship while it was still possible, it proved futile.

Kazuto suspected that his brother Yuto might have been giving Anzu some bad instructions, but as far as he knew, that wasn’t the case.

“I’m well aware of what happened in Natsuki’s home, and it saddened me too. But I’d prefer it if you didn’t suggest that I’m the cause. You know as well as I do that Anzu has always had issues with her personality.”

“Since childhood, she’s been attention-seeking, under the delusion that she’s some kind of princess. She cries and throws tantrums if she’s not the center of attention. I’ve been nice to her because I was told to get along with Natsuki, but honestly, she can be quite annoying.”

Kazuto was at a loss for words in response to Yuto’s shrug.

He had never imagined that Anzu, who had been with them since they were children, would be treated as an annoyance.

Indeed, as Yuto said, Anzu had her difficulties. She would quickly become sullen if something displeased her, often leaving others at a loss for how to deal with her. Despite appearing to get along with others around Yuto, she would speak ill of them behind their backs or try to assert dominance due to their long-standing relationship as childhood friends.

Even so, he had not expected Yuto to describe someone he had been close to and doted on for years as “annoying.”

“I’ve never had trouble with girls because I’m popular, but even when I want a real girlfriend, they get in the way. At first, I thought it was just cute jealousy, but Asuka and the others can be mean behind the scenes, and it’s getting on my nerves.”

“Then, you should have just stayed away from them.”

Kazuto managed to say, squeezing out the words. Yuto looked puzzled and said,

“Well, Asuka and the others bring money and are willing to get intimate, so I thought it was convenient. If they’re offering, I might as well take it, right?” 

Kazuto deeply regretted being born the brother of someone who could say such greedy things.
