Returned from Another World, Earth Turned Out to Be Quite the Fantasy Too. Also, Losing Heroines, Stop Looking This Way. - Chapter 43
Chapter 43: “Isn’t it risky to be marked?” ①
“Man, I ate so much. I’m full! With work being so busy lately, I haven’t been eating properly, so getting to enjoy all that sushi was a stroke of luck!”
Ginko, dressed in Natsuki’s middle school tracksuit, sat on the bed, rubbing her stomach in contentment.
Natsuki, smiling, said, “That’s good to hear.”
Ginko had come to the room to talk, but being alone at night with an older, beautiful woman in his bedroom was quite nerve-wracking.
Meanwhile, Koume, after exclaiming “Bath time, yaaaaay!” with joy, had taken a bath and was now enjoying a drink with his mother.
Jack and Nancy had also decided to turn in early after their bath. There were both Japanese-style and Western-style rooms available in Yura house, but they opted for the Japanese-style, excitedly embracing the “Japanese tatami! Japanese futon!” in a very foreigner-like enthusiasm.
So there sat Natsuki, a bit tense, facing Ginko fresh out of the bath. The familiar scent of his mother’s shampoo and body soap coming from Ginko made his heart race, and he wondered why it felt so awkward.
Ginko, slightly tipsy and in a good mood, didn’t notice Natsuki’s adolescent reactions.
“So, what did you want to talk about?”
“Umm, I’m not sure if it’s okay to ask this but…”
“…My three sizes are a secret, you know.”
“I wasn’t asking that! I mean, it’s something serious!”
“Alright.”
Upon being told it was a serious matter, Ginko straightened her back on the bed, ready to listen.
“Do the police take action against psychics who use their powers for wrongdoing?”
“Ah, that kind of question. Honestly, it depends on the situation. If someone uses their powers to cause harm or commit murder, they’ll definitely be arrested and locked up. You know about the Institute, right? It’s like a mutual aid organization for psychics, and they have someone who can seal psychic abilities, so sometimes we ask for their help. Occasionally, there are idiots who commit crimes beyond human norms, and in those cases… well, it’s not something to tell a middle schooler, but in the worst-case scenario, they might be hanged or have their psychic abilities destroyed beyond repair, without worrying about side effects.”
“Destroy the power?”
“Yes. I haven’t dealt with it personally, so I’m not sure, but it’s not about taking away or sealing the power. It’s about completely breaking it so they can’t use their psychic abilities at all. Of course, it leaves various disabilities, so it’s considered a last resort.”
Natsuki nodded in understanding.
Natsuki also had the capability to destroy someone’s power if he set his mind to it.
He had never done it to a psychic, but if the opponent was a magician, he could burst the flow of magic within their body by hitting it with a strong magical force from the inside. This would render them unable to use magic ever again and, at the same time, unable to lead a normal life as a person.
Regardless of how others might do it, Natsuki’s method involved using his own vast magical power to break the opponent’s body, not just the magic, resulting in physical damage as well.
While it wouldn’t take a life, it could leave the person in a vegetative state at worst.
Therefore, attempting to destroy the powers of Yuto Miyahara, who has latent abilities and an unexplained charm power, proved impossible.
It was thought that killing him might be simpler than leaving him as a half-alive wreck, as there would be no lingering issues. However, the presence of a family that would mourn such a man made it an untenable option.
“Does this mean I wouldn’t get in trouble for destroying someone’s power?”
“What are you saying? That’s a huge problem! Even within the Institute, opinions are divided on whether it’s right or wrong! Even if you can, you shouldn’t do it! At worst, you’ll attract unwanted attention, and if it gets out that Natsuki-kun has returned from another world with the powers of a hero or some unknown abilities, it could lead to complications!”
“…So, it’s a no-go, huh.”
Personally, Natsuki didn’t care if Yuto charmed someone.
Yuto’s latent abilities are an unknown, but his charm doesn’t seem all that powerful. It appears to require physical contact, but from Natsuki’s perspective, even if Yuto touches someone, it only makes them think, “Ah, this person is nice,” at most.
Even with daily contact, it likely wouldn’t be a big issue. Even if there’s a lot of contact with both girls and boys, some might find it annoying and clingy.
If someone does develop a liking, maintaining that affection would require Yuto or the affected individual to do something that genuinely fosters those feelings.
Alternatively, there might be other powers or factors that Natsuki isn’t aware of, or Yuto might be consciously using his charm frequently.
Still, those who are charmed would likely be limited.
In fact, there have been cases where girls who were once infatuated with Yuto lost interest a few months later. The group of girls surrounding Yuto tends to change frequently, except for a few specific individuals.
It’s just a theory, but if Yuto doesn’t show much attachment, the charm either wears off, or the other person becomes aware of their feelings of discomfort.
“But why are you suddenly asking about this?”
“Actually, I have a childhood friend.”
“Ah, yes, yes. Yuto Miyahara, right? We’re aware of him over here.”
“Really?”
Natsuki was surprised to hear Yuto’s name from Ginko even before he mentioned it.
