Returned from Another World, Earth Turned Out to Be Quite the Fantasy Too. Also, Losing Heroines, Stop Looking This Way. - Chapter 34
Chapter 34: “Isn’t the Name Confusing?” ②
“Ah, geez! He went all out with the fireworks! What are we going to do if the civilians find out!”
Ginko Aoyama, tasked by her father, was on her way to deal with the aftermath of Natsuki’s actions.
She felt like crying when she sensed the unmistakable sounds and lights of battle, along with the clashing of magic and likely divine powers.
To those without spiritual power, it might seem no more significant than thunder or a distant accident, but Ginko, with her considerable abilities, could tell that Natsuki was fighting a non-human opponent.
Thanks to a minimal barrier, the majority of the power was blocked, allowing Ginko to realize something was happening in the building she was headed to. She wasn’t sure what techniques were being used but thought the caster would be worth scouting.
“Honestly, it’s making me shiver. Not just Natsuki-kun, but the opponent he’s fighting is unbelievable, likely a deity… and a high-ranking one at that. Oh, how I hate this. I’m just a public servant, you know.”
She cautiously drove an old compact car closer to the building owned by the “Kappa & Tsuchinoko Research Society”.
In Ginko’s memory, although it was called a research society, it was a troublesome gathering of ordinary people who were dabbling in spiritual matters.
There were many who, out of mere curiosity, stepped into this realm and suffered greatly.
Recently, with the popularity of fantasy novels and comics about swords and magic, psychic and supernatural battles, there have been individuals who, finding themselves involved, mistakenly believe they are the protagonist of their own story.
Fundamentally, if a person possesses potential, they are left to their own devices. However, those deemed too dangerous to involve are subjected to memory erasure by “The Institute”.
Despite the uproar from some about human rights and privacy, they don’t consider these more important than life itself.
The members of the “Kappa & Tsuchinoko Research Society” were also under investigation. There were suspicions that psychics were involved, providing information, and it wasn’t clear whether The Institute or the police would take action. No one expected Natsuki to get involved.
“So, I came here to help Natsuki-kun, but what should I do?”
Ginko could still feel the clash of forces, but being just a “reasonably strong” human, she couldn’t find a way to intervene or assist.
It was at that moment, as she sighed, that someone knocked on the window of her beloved car.
“Yes, yes, who is it—?”
Outside, there was an alien known as a Grey.
“Excuse me. I heard you mention Natsuki’s name. Are you here to help?”
“Gyaaaaah! An alien! A Grey! And you speak Japanese fluently!?”
“Please, calm down. I have no intention of harming you. I’m here to ask for their protection.”
“The fact that you have a nice voice is scary! Wait, you’re holding someone! What is this, kidnapping? If you’re looking for dinner, please stick to those guys! I won’t taste good!”
“We do not consume humans. There seems to be a lot of misunderstandings. Let’s talk properly. My name is Jack Randock Jasper Williamson Chamber Hanamaki. What’s yours?”
“That’s a long name! And why does it end with Hanamaki?”
Holding the demonic sword passed on from Natsuki, Ginko found she couldn’t swing it around due to the car’s cramped interior.
She vowed her next car would be a model with more room inside.
“I am Natsuki Yura’s best friend. While he’s fighting, I’ve protected a person believed to be the owner of this building. There’s a lot I could criticize them for, but if they were to die caught up in this fight, Natsuki would feel responsible. Please, let them be protected.”
“…I don’t really get why Natsuki-kun is considered a best friend by an alien, but somehow, my gut tells me you’re one of the good Greys. Alright, I’ll trust your word.”
“I am grateful, Earth woman.”
“I’m Ginko Aoyama. Likely the future fiancée of Natsuki-kun, a beauty destined for greatness!”
At Ginko’s introduction, Jack made a gesture of surprise.
“So, you’re Natsuki’s fiancée. Strange timing, but let me introduce you to my fiancée, Nancy. Natsuki has been helping me to save her.”
“Eh? Gyaaaaah! Another one’s here!”
“Hajimemashite, Earth life form. I am Nancy. Pleased to meet you.”
“Ah, somehow your broken way of speaking is kind of calming.”
Despite being emotionally unsettled after her encounter with the alien, Ginko managed to regain her composure, thanks to her previous experiences fighting demons and spirits.
When she stepped out of the car to protect the humans the alien was carrying, a distorted scream and a sharp flash of light were released, and the building collapsed.
“What are you doing, Natsuki-kun? How do you expect me to clean up this mess?”
No one answered Ginko’s question.
