Chapter 77: Bonus SS 2: Tending to the Thorny Lady
Drunk and asleep, Annegelt was carried by Rofus to the girls’ dormitory.
At the dormitory entrance, he made eye contact with the on-duty staff.
Not the dormitory supervisor, but a hired female staff member.
She naturally knew about Annegelt, an upper-class noble, and she also recognized Rofus.
And as expected, the girls’ dormitory was strictly off-limits to males.
For noble girls who valued purity, premarital relations were out of the question.
Even rumors were not tolerated.
Thus, the on-duty staff had to be female and strong enough to protect the noble girls in an emergency.
Ordinarily, the female staff member should have stopped Rofus in his tracks.
She knew that Annegelt was engaged and also that Rofus, the heir of the Lightless family, was a only close friend.
Carrying a drunk Annegelt to her room—this situation was completely inappropriate.
Thus, the female staff member stood up and stepped out from behind the counter.
She walked past Rofus and Annegelt, went outside, and lit a cigarette.
Her fingers trembled with fear as she held the cigarette.
I didn’t see anything—she repeated this in her mind.
The person in question was Rofus from the combative Lightless family—a genius among them.
No matter how skilled she was, she stood no chance against him.
If she made a mistake, she might be silenced for good.
Thus, the female staff member made every effort to act as if she had seen nothing.
Rofus opened his mouth to speak to her.
“…Don’t smoke while on duty. It’s unpleasant.”
The female staff member immediately discarded the cigarette, stomped it out, and threw away the match and the remaining cigarettes.
“I just came to drop off a drunk Annegelt. Don’t get the wrong idea.”
With those words, Rofus proceeded forward.
The female staff member collapsed into a chair.
She felt as though her lifespan had been shortened.

Rofus arrived at Annegelt’s room and headed straight to the bedroom.
He gently laid Annegelt on the bed.
As he was about to leave, Annegelt grabbed his coat.
“…Annegelt?”
“…”
Annegelt gave no response, silently clinging to his coat.
As Rofus looked at her in confusion, Annegelt spoke softly.
“Raymond calls me ‘Anne.'”
“Huh?”
Rofus frowned at the strange statement.
“Raymond calls me by a pet name.”
Annegelt spoke hesitantly.
Rofus listened attentively.
“Why don’t you call me by a pet name, Rofus?”
“…Do you want me to call you that?”
“…”
Silence again.
Rofus sighed lightly and continued.
“I believe pet names are for someone very close.”
“Am I not close to you?”
“That’s not what I mean…”
Annegelt tugged harder on Rofus’s coat as he scratched his head, unsure of what to say.
“…It’s late… Why don’t you sleep here with me?”
“What?”
“There’s only one bed, though.”
Annegelt looked at Rofus directly while lying down.
Unable to look away from Annegelt, Rofus gently held the hand that clutched his coat.
“Rofus…”
“Annegelt—this isn’t good for either of our families.”
Rofus spoke as if advising her.
Annegelt, staring at him, slowly released his coat.
“You’re right… Maybe so.”
“You’ve had too much to drink. Get some rest tonight.”
With those words, Rofus turned and walked away.
“Rofus.”
Annegelt called out, stopping him in his tracks.
“Forget it. I wasn’t thinking clearly.”
“Yeah… See you tomorrow.”
With that final exchange, the bedroom door closed.
Annegelt, who had been drunk, forgot about the incident completely—and Rofus made every effort to forget it as well.
The next day—the royal capital was attacked by summoned beasts released by the “Second Demon King Raymond.”
