- Chapter 40: A Clear Disturbance
Act 03: Shibakata High War Arc
Chapter 40: A Clear Disturbance
After all the mess with Tanigawa, we could finally breathe easy.
The Myougi faction and the Tanigawa faction now ran Shibakata High together.
There was no single boss anymore, but having clear leaders kept things stable enough.
Of course, fights were still an everyday thing here. That wasn’t about to change.
Even now, right in front of the blackboard, two girls were duking it out—one cornered against the wall, the other pressing forward—with the rest of the class cheering like it was a ringside brawl.
It had been a while since I really thought about it, but scenes like this reminded me just how flipped this world was.
In a rough school like this, you’d normally picture guys throwing punches.
But here, it was the girls who fought—and that was the norm.
A delinquent manga world, turned upside down, with gender roles reversed—
And on top of that, the main characters themselves had switched sexes.
At first, I honestly wondered how I’d even survive in a place like this.
“Ah, Takuma-kun, where you heading?”
“Shop. Didn’t bring lunch today.”
“Careful out there—don’t let anyone snatch you up.”
“I’ll be fine.”
Chiaki Haruna, slouched at the desk beside mine, lazily waved a hand at me.
I just shrugged and stepped out of the classroom, strolling down the hall.
Yeah, sure, there weren’t many male students at Shibakata High,
But it wasn’t so dangerous that just walking around the school would get me in trouble.
As I slid my hand into my pocket and felt the edge of my wallet, I spotted a familiar face coming toward me.
“Ah, Mikoto.”
“Takuma-kun, hey! Long time no see.”
The one waving and smiling was Mikoto Shirane.
I’d first met her when I stopped to help a lost kid—she’d introduced herself as the child’s older sister.
By coincidence, she turned out to be a first-year at Shibakata High too.
After that, I’d even been invited to her house, and we’d grown pretty close.
Shaking her soft, inward-curled white hair, Mikoto said,
“So Takuma-kun, you’re with the Myougi faction, huh? You could’ve told me earlier. If I’d known, I wouldn’t have mouthed off to you like that.”
“Nah, you don’t need to treat me like that. I’m not someone to be all formal around. You’re my friend, Mikoto. I’d be happier if things just stayed the same.”
“Well, if you put it like that, I guess I can’t argue. But if I ever get in trouble with the Myougi faction, I’ll be counting on you to bail me out, Takuma-kun.”
She laughed, her tone half joking, half serious.
I often found myself tangled up with characters from Fist.
It wasn’t on purpose, but every time, I had to watch my words carefully to avoid messing up the manga’s original flow.
Not that I hated it—but it was exhausting.
That’s why, with someone like Mikoto—who wasn’t part of the manga at all—I could just relax and talk without overthinking.
“Lately, I’ve been lonely not seeing you around, Takuma-kun.”
“Yeah, I’ve been caught up in a lot. But it’s all settled now, so I’m good.”
“That’s a relief. I’d be real sad if I couldn’t talk to one of the few boys I get along with. So hey, Takuma-kun—how about teaming up with me and taking over Shibakata High?”
“No way. I’d be useless in that.”
“Oh? But you’re not denying that I could take it over?”
Mikoto narrowed her eyes playfully.
For a delinquent, that kind of line was practically a standard joke.
Of course, there was always the chance it wasn’t a joke at all… but in Shibakata High, where might made right, it wasn’t exactly strange either way.
“I don’t really get all the power dynamics, but wouldn’t taking over now be pretty tough? If it were just the Myougi faction, maybe. But now you’ve also got the Tanigawa faction in the mix. That’s basically half the whole school you’d be up against.”
“Geez, when you put it like that, it does sound scary. Guess it’s not for me—forget I said anything.”
She hugged herself dramatically, shoulders hunched, muttering, “Oh, scary.”
“Well, I’m heading to the shop.”
“Alright then. Let’s hang out sometime, okay?”
“Yeah.”
We waved and parted ways.
But as we passed each other, I felt a faint prick of unease.
I turned back, tilting my head, trying to figure out what had bothered me.
And then I saw it—
On the hem of Mikoto’s skirt, something red was smeared.
“Blood…?”
Was she hurt somewhere?
But the skin peeking out from under her skirt was perfectly white—no scratches, no wounds in sight.
Well, this was Shibakata High.
She’d probably gotten into a fight somewhere and ended up with someone else’s blood on her.
Happened all the time here.
I decided not to think too much about it and turned on my heel.
More importantly, I had to hurry to the shop.
The bread there was cheap for the size and flavor, which made it insanely popular.
If I didn’t move fast, it’d sell out.

Mikoto Shirane, meanwhile, had walked away from Takuma Takamure.
The cheerful smile she’d been wearing peeled off her face, replaced by something else.
Not quite expressionless—but definitely suspicious, like a mask slipping.
She reached an empty classroom, pushed the door open, and slipped inside after making sure no one was watching.
“…Oh, look at that. Quite a few more now.”
“Yes. At this point, about half the students in the school have joined us.”
“Then we’ve got more than enough to pick a fight with the Myougi–Tanigawa alliance… and actually have a shot at winning.”
Mikoto Shirane.
In the manga Fist, she had been nothing more than a background mob who disappeared almost immediately.
Her appearances were so few and forgettable that even Takuma hadn’t remembered her—
But the truth was, she had been a proper character all along.
Yet because of Takuma Takamure’s very existence—
Or maybe because Minato Myougi, with a guy around, ended up far more pathetic than her manga counterpart—
Mikoto’s fate had shifted.
Now, she was moving in the shadows every day, aiming to become the next boss herself.
“Still… why’d Takuma-kun end up as my enemy, I wonder. Honestly, I thought he was supposed to be my destined partner.”
“Beat the Myougi faction, and he’ll naturally become yours, Shirane-san.”
“Really? But what about his actual feelings in all that?”
“Love’s the kind of thing that can grow afterward. Happens all the time.”
“…That so? Then I guess it’s fine.”
Mikoto folded her arms, nodding with a troubled little smile.
