Chapter 28: Tanigawa Turns Into a Kid When Drunk
Once she’d at least regained her senses, I decided to let Tanigawa bathe on her own.
Yeah, I know—it was risky to leave her alone in that state, but seriously… taking a bath with her?
Absolutely not.
It wasn’t just me being socially awkward—pretty sure anyone would find that embarrassing.
So, she was in there by herself.
Still, I couldn’t relax.
Which is why I stood outside, watching her shadow through the frosted glass, ready to rush in at the first sign of trouble.
I leaned back against the wall and stared up at the ceiling.
“………………”
Frosted glass wasn’t much of a barrier.
Every sound carried through, clear as day.
Earlier, I’d been too busy dealing with the walking disaster she was to react.
But now?
Now I was hyperaware.
I squeezed my eyes shut, covered my ears—trying desperately to block it all out.
Didn’t help.
The sound of running water kept seeping in, dragging along unwelcome images of Tanigawa’s naked body.
With a groan, I knocked the back of my head against the wall.
I was the worst.
This made it look like I’d brought her here for exactly that.
I scratched at my head in frustration—then realized the sound of the shower had stopped.
And without so much as a warning or a “hey, I’m done,” the frosted-glass door swung open.
Of course, standing there was Tanigawa.
Fresh from the shower.
Completely naked.
Droplets of water sliding down her bare skin as she stood there, staring right at me.
“Takumaaa.”
“Wh—what are you doing!?”
“…? I finished showering.”
Then say so first, for crying out loud!
I whipped my head toward the wall, sighing heavily.
She was still drunk—eyes half-lidded, words slurred.
She looked… almost childlike like this.
“Here, take this towel. As for clothes, I didn’t have anything decent for you, so these are my mom’s. Deal with it if they’re too big or too small.”
“Ehh… I can just wear what I had on.”
“You mean those trash-coated rags? That would completely defeat the purpose of showering.”
“…Would it, though?”
I had no idea what kind of hygiene standards she lived by, but mine were screaming in horror.
She actually tried to put those filthy clothes back on—I had to rush over and stop her.
If I hadn’t, she would’ve slipped right back into them without a second thought.
I really hoped this was just the alcohol talking.
I tossed her my mom’s clothes, then stepped out of the changing room.
The cool morning air outside felt laced with lingering steam—or maybe that was just the heat in my face.
Either way, I was mortified.
I slid down the hallway wall and sank to the floor.
“Haa…”
What a morning.
I’d gone out for a nice, refreshing walk, and somehow ended up here.
All traces of that good mood were gone.
From behind the changing room door, I heard Tanigawa’s soft voice.
“All good~,” she called out—though she didn’t sound remotely convincing.
I hesitated, then opened the door.
“…Tanigawa-san.”
“Mm?”
“What exactly… is that supposed to be?”
“What’s what?”
“I mean why are you dressed like… that?”
Technically, Tanigawa was wearing clothes.
Technically.
But in any meaningful sense? She wasn’t.
If she walked outside like this, she’d be arrested on the spot.
Public indecency, no question.
My mom’s clothes—already tragic with their floral pattern—were obviously too small for her.
Her stomach was completely exposed, and not a single button was fastened, leaving her chest practically on display.
And she had zero shame about it.
Not even a flicker of embarrassment.
She stood there with an air of total confidence.
Regal, almost.
…Not that I was praising her.
Far from it.
Her lower half was only marginally better.
She’d grabbed the first thing she found in my mom’s closet: a mini-skirt I’d rather not think about.
Now she stood there, arms crossed, like she owned the place.
“I did my best.”
“Your best couldn’t have turned out… better than this?”
“I was drunk. My hands weren’t working properly.”
“Ah, so being drunk is your all-purpose excuse. Convenient.”
I gave up.
Completely surrendered.
With a sigh, I handed her my hoodie.
“What’s this?”
“Mine.”
“You want me to wear it?”
“Leaving you dressed like that would haunt me forever, even if no one else saw you.”
The guilt was unreal.
Like I was somehow committing a crime by letting her wander around half-naked.
So, yeah—I caved. I went and grabbed my hoodie from my room.
She eagerly slipped it on.
And seeing a beautiful girl wearing something I usually wore myself…
Yeah, that did things.
Things that made me look away, cheeks burning.
“Anyway… standing in the hallway like this is awkward. Let’s go to my room.”
“…You mean so you can attack me?”
“I’m NOT attacking you.”
Clearly, the booze was still in full effect.
With her spouting nonsense, I led her up the stairs—careful with each step so the creaking wouldn’t wake my parents.
Finally, we reached the second floor, and I ushered Tanigawa into my room.
“Haaah~ So this is Takuma’s room. It’s my first time in a boy’s room, you know.”
“Funny, it’s my first time inviting a girl over.”
“Then I’m your first.”
“…Do you always turn into someone who spouts dirty jokes when you’re drunk? Because normally you’d never say something like that. I think.”
“Really? I like saying stuff like this.”
Right. Cultural role reversal.
In this world, it was normal for girls to act like guys did in mine.
Didn’t make it any less awkward to hear a girl casually dropping innuendos right in front of me.
Back in my old world, when my friends and I traded dirty jokes, everyone was male—it was fine.
But hearing a girl say this stuff?
The vibe got real weird, real fast.
If it felt this awkward one-on-one, I could only imagine how unbearable it’d be in a group.
With nowhere else to sit, I offered her my chair and took a seat on my bed.
The worn-out springs groaned under me as I spoke.
“So… why exactly were you sleeping in a trash heap again?”
“I told you—drinking to forget.”
“Because of me?”
“Yup. You dumped me.”
“…Right. Uh, sorry?”
Was I really supposed to apologize for this?
I wasn’t sure, but I did anyway.
Tanigawa waved her hand regally, as if bestowing a royal pardon.
“All is as it should be,” she declared, completely out of left field.
