Chapter 21: Shibakata High’s Boss, Minato Myougi
—Why does Yayoi Akagi still look so calm?
Chiaki had been wondering that.
And finally, she reached her conclusion.
“You’re not actually calm at all… are you!?”
A wide, sweeping punch.
So obvious anyone could’ve seen it coming—
Yet it still sank deep into Yayoi’s gut.
Even then, Yayoi kept charging forward.
—Yeah. Thought so.
Chiaki’s grin stretched wider.
That cool facade? Fake.
Whether it was pride as a “boss” or just sheer stubbornness—
Her blows were connecting.
But still—
“Ghhhaa!!”
“Doesn’t mean I’ve got this fight in the bag though, huh!”
Yayoi’s punches had weight.
Even weakened, they still packed enough force to put Chiaki down.
Chiaki kicked off the ground, retreating with everything she had.
Yayoi didn’t pursue.
Maybe, just maybe, they both wanted a moment’s breath.
She forced herself to inhale deep, controlled breaths.
Little by little, her body began to respond again.
Blood ran down her temple, hot as fire.
Was the nosebleed stopping? No—she could still taste iron. Or maybe that was just a split lip.
Fragments of thought, scattered and senseless, flickered through her head.
Proof of how far this fight had pushed her.
“Ghh…!”
Time was running out.
Chiaki made up her mind.
She clenched her teeth—and stepped forward.
“Yeah… that’s what I like. Fun.”
“Can’t say I’m having much fun myself!”
With a sharp exhale, she launched a punch.
Easily dodged—but that was the plan.
She followed with a relentless barrage, fists flying in a nonstop storm, leaving no room for a counter.
Yayoi smirked.
“‘Not having fun,’ huh? Don’t kid yourself. Then what’s with that face?”
“Face…?”
Chiaki’s fingers brushed her own lips.
And then she realized—
“You’re grinning like an idiot, clear as day.”
“…Ahahaha!!”
“You’re just like me—a damn battle junkie!”
“Being compared to you? What an honor!”
Chiaki Haruna was the protagonist of Fist.
A girl with hidden strength and a wild, untamable spirit—
No matter how much she tried to bury it, it could never truly die.
She lunged like a beast unleashed.
“ORAA—!”
Yayoi’s fist cracked against her forehead.
Her vision blurred, white light exploding behind her eyes—
But still, she didn’t stop.
Her blazing gaze locked on Yayoi, and Chiaki bared her teeth in a feral grin.
“RAAAAAAAA—!!”
By build alone, Chiaki had the advantage.
Yayoi Akagi’s frame was small, almost childlike—
If this were a straight-up brawl, Chiaki should’ve had the clear upper hand.
So why had the fight been dead even?
Simple: Yayoi’s insane physical ability.
And Chiaki was about to shut that down.
She took the incoming arm head-on, smashing it aside with her forehead, then clamped it tight against her chest and drove her full weight forward, locking Yayoi in place.
Yayoi’s eyes widened—she knew what was coming, but it was already too late.
Chiaki coiled around her like a snake, wrenching her into a chokehold.
“Ghhhaa…!?”
“Go down already!!”
“Don’t… you… dare… underestimate me…!”
Yayoi thrashed with everything she had.
But the size difference was too much.
Her airway was closing; each breath rasped shorter, sharper.
Stars burst behind her eyelids as darkness began to creep in.
—This is it.
For the first time in her life, Yayoi Akagi acknowledged defeat.
She had always been undefeated. No one had ever stood as her equal—until now.
“Chi, aki…”
“What?!”
“I lose.”
“…I see.”
No kicking. No screaming. No desperate last strike.
Too many people’s pride rested on her shoulders—
And fighting on when she’d already lost would only disgrace them.
Chiaki exhaled and slowly released the hold, catching Yayoi as she slumped forward.
The thought of Yayoi faking surrender never even crossed her mind.
She trusted Yayoi’s honor completely.
“Phew… guess I lost.”
“Nah, you were strong.”
“Damn right I was. I’d never lost before.”
“So that means I’m the first one to ever beat you?”
“Be proud of it.”
“Maybe I’ll frame it and hang it up: ‘Chiaki Haruna defeated Yayoi Akagi’.”
“Yeah, don’t push your luck.”
There was a strange sense of closeness between them now.
Trading blows had forged a bond no words ever could.
As Takuma and the others came rushing over in a panic, the two of them just laughed.
◇
Would it be wrong if I punched this idiot right now?
I glanced at Minato, proudly puffing out her chest beside me, and let out a long sigh.
“Hey, hey, what’s with the gloomy face, Takuma-kun!? Wanna dive into my blazing hot embrace and let me cheer you up!?”
“Annoying…”
I shoved her face away as she leaned in, sighing again—
Honestly, I’d lost count of how many times I’d done that today.
That’s how far up her own ass Minato was right now.
The Myougi faction had somehow managed to beat Yayoi and her crew.
And as per the deal, the defeated Akagi faction now belonged to them.
Since Yayoi had been the reigning queen of Shibakata High, that meant…
Myougi was officially sitting at the top now.
…But.
“Hey, Chiaki. I still can’t accept this. You and I fought our asses off, and she—the one who literally slept through everything—ends up as the boss?”
“Tell me about it. I’m kinda regretting it too. Akagi-san was a worthy leader… but this one’s just a pathetic loser.”
At the back of the classroom, Chiaki and Hinata grumbled away.
And honestly? I agreed with them 100%.
Sure, this was how the manga went, but still…
And it was all thanks to the idiot currently basking in her own glory front and center.
“Hahaha! My era has finally arrived!”
“Yeah, and you’re totally gonna get wrecked for it.”
“No way! I’m the invincible boss of Shibakata High, baby!”
With all those death flags she was gleefully planting, there was no way trouble wasn’t on the horizon.
And sure enough, it would only be a matter of days before new challengers rose up to take a swing at Minato Myougi’s shiny new throne.
