Chapter 04: The “Myougi Faction” Origin Story?
“Middle of the day and we’re hitting the arcade, huh…”
“What, you don’t like that sort of thing, Takuma?”
“…Kinda makes my heart race.”
I licked my lips, which were drying from the nerves.
Yayoi had me by the hand, dragging me into the game center.
The pounding BGM slammed right into my ears the moment we stepped in.
Somehow, I’d been… well, “kidnapped” feels too harsh—let’s say escorted—out of school, and here I was, playing hooky.
Sure, plenty of other students did this all the time.
But me? I never thought I’d end up joining the club.
My heartbeat was a weird mix of guilt and excitement.
Following quietly behind us, Narukami stuck out her tongue in a playful “sorry.”
“We’re delinquents, y’know. You might as well get used to this early, Takuma.”
“Do you skip often?”
“Hmm… now and then, I guess.”
Her eyes, peeking out from behind her black hair, narrowed with a mischievous glint.
“Truth is, I’m curious too.”
“Curious about…?”
“There aren’t any guys at Shibakata High, so I’ve never hung out with one before. That’s why I’m looking forward to this.”
That’s… a lot of pressure.
All I could manage was an awkward smile.
We’d walked quite a ways like that, my arm being tugged along, when Yayoi suddenly turned back to face me.
“Takuma! That!”
“…A racing game, huh.”
From my old-world perspective, it’d probably be considered retro by now.
The oversized seat was its most obvious feature.
She plopped into it first, then patted the seat beside her.
“Hurry, hurry!”
“…Alright, excuse me.”
Honestly? I still couldn’t connect the girl next to me with Fist’s Yayoi Akagi.
Even I was starting to doubt it myself.
A pure, bright-eyed girl versus a rough, musclebound brawler.
“?”
Yayoi flashed me a bright smile.
For a second, it overlapped with that cold, ruthless look she’d worn when Minato attacked her, making the image blur in my head.
“I’ve never played this before. Will you teach me?”
“Yup! Of course!!”
She popped a coin into the slot, and suddenly a man appeared on the screen.
Barely clothed.
Actually… it might’ve been worse than if he were naked.
“…Ugh.”
Guess this was another side effect of the chastity reversal.
I understood that in theory, but seeing it up close? Yeah, not pleasant.
Who in their right mind wants to see a guy like that?
“So, boys aren’t into stuff like this, huh?”
“Not exactly something I want in my line of sight.”
“Hmmm.”
Yayoi pouted, then started playing with a curious look on her face.
◇
Meanwhile…
Minato Myougi was running full speed.
She burst into her own classroom and made a beeline straight for her.
“—Chiaki!”
“…Yeah.”
Chiaki Haruna looked less than thrilled at having her pudding time interrupted, but Minato didn’t let that stop her.
“Takuma-kun’s been kidnapped!”
“…Hah?”
“By Yayoi Akagi! You know—the boss of Shibakata High!”
“Ah.”
Chiaki’s gaze drifted off into the air.
She hadn’t actually seen her before, but she clearly knew the rumor.
“And?”
“…And? What do you mean, and?”
“Not my problem.”
She went right back to eating her pudding, lips curling into a bright, flowery smile.
Even as a yankee, she still had her girlish moments.
“It’s totally your problem!”
“Why?”
“Because Takuma-kun is part of our Myougi faction—!”
“Hold up. What?”
Chiaki shut her eyes, pressing a hand to her forehead like she was staving off a headache.
“First of all… what’s this ‘Myougi faction’?”
“Literally, my faction.”
“Yeah, pretty sure I never joined that.”
At this point, Chiaki could already see where this was going.
But she still had to ask—otherwise the nonsense wouldn’t end.
“And what’s with this ‘our’ part, huh?”
“Well, there’s only two of us here—me and you. Plus Takuma-kun, who’s not here right now.”
“…So explain to me why the hell I’m automatically roped into this stupid faction of yours!”
She crushed the empty pudding cup in her hand.
Her mind flicked back to that first day—
When Minato had picked a fight with her.
Sure, Chiaki had won… but apparently that didn’t stop this mess from happening.
“Because I won, so—”
“What timeline did you grow up in, huh?!”
“Piiieeee!?”
Chiaki’s tone got so sharp it was like she’d switched dialects entirely, and she closed in on Minato, who’d already collapsed onto her butt.
“Oh? You getting cocky with me?!”
“sorryyyyy!!”
Same old Minato—pathetically weak.
She ended up doing a full dogeza without a shred of pride.
Even Chiaki started to look awkward, scratching her cheek and glancing away.
“…Anyway.”
“…?”
“Spit out the details from earlier.”
Chiaki let out a long sigh.
Why did it always end up like this?
Before she knew it, she was dancing to Minato’s tune again.
She dropped into a chair with a heavy flop.
“So lemme guess—you spotted someone who looked weak, picked a fight, and unlucky for you, it turned out to be Yayoi Akagi. You lost in one hit, and now Takuma-kun’s been taken.”
“Exactly! We gotta get him back fast—!”
“Yeah, but that’s entirely your fault.”
Chiaki shrugged like she was asking, Do I really need to do anything about this?
“And besides, Akagi’s not wrong. The rule’s the same—losers have to give something up.”
“Ghh…!”
Minato ground her teeth in frustration.
“B-But…!”
“No ‘but’ or ‘maybe’ about it.”
“Aah, fine!” Chiaki whipped her hair back and stood up in one sharp motion.
Minato, still sitting on the floor, could only stare in surprise.
“You’re coming, right?”
“Eh?”
“Don’t ‘eh?’ me.”
Chiaki strode straight out into the hallway, forcing Minato to scramble after her.
A few steps ahead, Chiaki suddenly stopped, then turned back slowly with a calm smile.
“If you’re gonna go around calling yourselves the ‘Myougi Faction’—”
“…Y-Yeah?”
“Then of course, you’re the one standing on the front lines, right?”
In that case, I’ll help you out.
…Was that an offer made out of pure goodwill?
Yeah, no.
Later, Minato would look back on this moment and be sure of it—
She totally just wanted to shove me in front of Akagi and use me to blow off some steam.
