Reincarnated as the Villain Who Experiments on Orphanage Kids – Why Are the Test Subject Girls Begging Me for "Night Experiments"? - Chapter 29
Chapter 29: She Begged Me For Nighttime Tutoring
“Sai, I’ve come for the night tutoring session.”
It happened one night.
After the usual morning training, running the orphanage during the day, and getting chewed out by the boss at the ramen shop at night.
After a day like that, I was yawning on the bed when suddenly the door that should have been locked opened.
Creaaak. With that groaning sound, Priere pokes her face in.
And she says it like it’s totally normal.
“Let’s do some tutoring!”
“I thought I left it unlocked, but how are you opening it so easily?”
“It’s for tutoring.”
“No, I’m asking how you unlocked it…”
“It’s for tutoring.”
“Look, even if it’s tutoring, you can’t just barge into someone’s room on your own—”
“It’s for tutoring.”
No use. At night she sometimes switches into a mode where nothing you say gets through.
This was exactly one of those times. Once she gets like this, normal talk is impossible.
I don’t really get it, but for now I’ll just change the lock.
I had just made up my mind when Priere kneels on my bed and climbs on.
Then she naturally leans right over me.
“Sai, I want to do nighttime tutoring.”
“What do you mean?”
“Like this.”
She reaches out and touches my cheek as she says it.
I tried to dodge right away, but she had grabbed my shoulder so I couldn’t get away.
A cool feeling spreads across my cheek.
“This is tutoring?”
“You could also call it night experiments.”
“Don’t rephrase it like that.”
It sounds totally different.
“Sai, I’m serious.”
But Priere’s tutoring (sort of) doesn’t stop.
Touching my cheek is still bearable, but her blushing and bringing her lips closer is definitely crossing the line.
I panicked and opened my mouth to change the mood.
“We already do tons of training every morning, right? No need for extra tutoring at night, is there?”
“I do feel myself getting stronger from the morning training. But that’s just the method. The final goal is human experiments.”
Priere smiles sweetly and leans her face even closer.
“No, it’s the opposite.”
“No. Getting experimented on by Sai is the ultimate goal.”
“Why are you so hung up on human experiments?”
When I ask, she answers with a bright, cloudless smile.
“Actually, I — love doing human experiments and being done on too!”
Maybe I should report her right now?
Stopping crime before it happens is also part of an orphanage director’s job.
I need to stop her wild behavior so she doesn’t hurt the other kids.
“Have you actually done human experiments on someone before?”
“Want me to show you?”
“Huh? It’s okay to show?”
Human experiments aren’t the kind of thing you show off like a factory tour, right?
It definitely feels wrong, and I have a really bad feeling.
Something bad is definitely going to happen. Lately Priere has been dragging me around nonstop.
“Let’s go!”
“Hey, wait.”
But once her switch flips, there’s no stopping her. Priere pulls my hand and takes me down to the underground lab.
She doesn’t take me to the experiment table though. She brings me to the storage room next door instead.
“Storage room?”
“Yes. I actually keep the results of my experiments in here.”
“Without my permission?”
“……………………”
Priere stays quiet and looks away. What I see at the end of her gaze is a shocking sight.
“…………………………Huh?”
The shelves are full of unfamiliar tools scattered around, monster skulls rolling on the floor, and tons of test tubes filled with mysterious liquids.
—When did all this get here?
There are three storage rooms underground. One of them wasn’t being used at all, but still, way too much stuff.
And the things here are anything but normal. Not the kind of stuff orphanage kids would gather.
Like that human-shaped skull way in the back, for example.
“What is this?”
“Materials I used in experiments.”
“It’s a human, right? That’s clearly a human head, isn’t it?”
“Materials.”
“You’re using humans as materials?”
“……………………”
“Say something, please!”
Priere keeps her mouth stubbornly shut.
She might have even more mad scientist talent than I thought. Treating a human head as just material.
Damn it! I forgot to teach her that human heads aren’t materials.
I should have taught that first, before even the alphabet.
As an educator, I’m a total failure.
“Maybe tutoring really is needed.”
Mainly on morals. Ethics would be good too.
“Rebellion was developing a monster transformation drug.”
Priere ignores my complaining completely and picks up a beaker filled with purple liquid.
She stares at it swaying behind the glass and starts talking calmly.
“It’s the same type as the drug you tried to give me, Sai. The effects are probably almost identical.”
When she shakes it lightly, the liquid reflects under the lantern light.
“It was really powerful. Not only does it massively boost magic power, but if it lets you turn into a monster while keeping your mind, that’s truly groundbreaking. For us in the SJO Squad, that’s a serious threat.”
That drug really is dangerous.
In the original story, after tons of failures it turned the test subject kids into monsters one after another.
It eventually gets completed as a drug that lets anyone keep their reason, but it creates countless victims before that.
And even after it’s finished, the organization strengthened by the drug causes huge damage to the city, so it’s the absolute worst thing.
“As things stand, we probably can’t win. Whether the drug exists or not will decide the battle.”
Priere pauses, sets the beaker down, and slowly walks closer.
“If they’re going to use the drug, we need to fight back with it too. So here’s my suggestion…”
She stops right in front of me with a serious look in her eyes.
“How about we make that drug ourselves?”
She asks.
Logically, what she says isn’t wrong. As a scientist, it’s probably correct.
But I turn it down right away.
“Too dangerous. No.”
“You think so?”
“It’s obviously dangerous. You’re planning to do human experiments anyway, right?”
“Of course.”
“Then it’s even more no. You shouldn’t touch experiments that are built on someone’s sacrifice.”
“But we have the perfect test subject right here. The safest, best test subject you could ever experiment on no matter how many times…”
Right as Priere says that.
“What? Calling me out in the middle of the night!”
A voice suddenly comes from behind.
I turn around and see Fioraia standing there.
She’s looking back and forth between our faces with a suspicious expression. Looks like Priere called her. She’s even spreading her arms out in a welcoming way.
“Perfect timing.”
“Ehh— I have a really bad feeling about this!”
Fioraia takes a step back. She must have sensed the danger on instinct.
“Fioraia is… the safe test subject?”
I ask, hoping it’s not true.
Priere answers with a pure, innocent smile.
“Yes. Almost all of my experiments use Fioraia as the test subject.”
Huh? You’ve been doing human experiments on Fioraia’s body?
That’s messed up.
