Reincarnated as the Villain Who Experiments on Orphanage Kids – Why Are the Test Subject Girls Begging Me for "Night Experiments"? - Chapter 19
Chapter 19: The Results of the Human Experiments
[Side: Priere]
The first time I ever got my hands dirty with experiments was one year after I arrived at the orphanage.
It was around the time I turned eleven and the urge to have Sai do experiments on me had gotten really strong.
Back then, I was just so worked up about it. I couldn’t hold back my interest in experiments anymore.
So I decided to try being the one doing the experiments myself.
Of course I couldn’t compare to Sai, but I wanted to copy even a little bit of what he did.
Basically, I was at that age, y’know?
Luckily, the lab had all the records of Sai’s past experiments, so I could soak up as much knowledge as I wanted.
I decided to put that knowledge to use and try a little experiment of my own.
“Hey, this is seriously not okay, right?”
“This is a purification ritual. You don’t have the right to refuse.”
The first one who became my test subject was my roommate, Fioraia.
Her face went obviously pale and she was trembling all over, but since she had secretly eaten my share of cookies the other day, she couldn’t say a word back.
“You committed the sin not once but twice. So you’re gonna make up for it properly, okay?”
“But isn’t human experimentation going way too far? It’s scary…”
“Don’t worry. Fioraia, you actually have the perfect aptitude for being a test subject.”
“Gyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!”
After that, I got totally hooked on experimenting.
It felt amazing when things went exactly as planned, and even if it failed, I could use it for the next try.
Plus, sometimes a nice side product would come out of the failure.
It was seriously the best. To put it mildly, it was so much fun.
“Gyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!”
I was a little annoyed that I had to limit the test subjects to just Fioraia for safety reasons, but I spent those few years living a really fulfilling experiment life.
“Gyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!”
And finally, at the end of all those experiments, I created it.
—The medicine that lets you absorb a monster’s core and control magic power.
※
“Actually, I… human experimentation is my hobby.”
I said that and smiled.
“…Huh?”
The guy clearly frowned at my words.
Of course he did.
There was no way he’d understand if I suddenly said something like that in the middle of a fight.
“What the hell are you talking about?”
“This is an experiment.”
“An experiment?”
“I’m researching how far a human can get stronger. Whether you can fight monsters even if the Holy Sword doesn’t choose you. Stuff like that.”
“Hah— what a load of crap.”
The guy snorted.
“Playing at research? I ain’t got time to humor some kid’s game.”
He said that and lightly swung his sword.
Orange magic power roared.
“Die.”
I jumped back with a big leap, then slowly slipped my hand into my pocket.
What I took out was a small glass bottle. Basically a beaker with a lid.
Inside was a clear liquid.
“What the hell is that?”
“It’s a side product of my experiments.”
I gave the bottle a little shake.
“I went through countless trial and error.”
—To recreate that purple medicine Sai was going to give me.
Fioraia. Fioraia. Fioraia. Fioraia. And myself.
After so many sacrifices from Fioraia, I tested it over and over again.
As a side effect, Fioraia ended up with a body that makes her fall asleep right away for a nap, but on the plus side her chest grew.
Even so, for some reason my own chest never grew…
Ahem, I got off topic.
“The answer to how humans who aren’t chosen by the Holy Sword can still get stronger was there from the very beginning.”
I took the lid off the bottle.
“But reproducing that answer wasn’t easy. It wasn’t straightforward at all. Especially getting the materials—I just couldn’t do it.”
According to the experiment records Sai left behind, the medicine uses a monster’s core.
But it’s not from common monsters like orcs or goblins. It’s from a rare one called an Ancient Dragon.
Of course something like that was impossible to get.
So I tried substituting with all kinds of different monsters…
“Gyaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhh!”
It didn’t work on Fioraia.
That’s why it was seriously tough. Sai’s experiments were way harder than I imagined.
“Huh. So it’s medicine, eh…”
The guy readjusted his grip on his sword.
“You really think something like that can beat me?”
“I do. Because…”
I answered without hesitation and gulped down the liquid in one go.
The next instant, I felt something explode deep inside my body.
My heart thumped hard, and I could feel magic power spreading to every corner of me. The intense stimulation made my vision turn pure white for a split second.
“I see, so that’s what you meant by experiment. You definitely feel different from before…”
The guy showed a fierce grin.
“Gonna entertain me, huh?”
He dashed forward with flawless movement.
I lightly stepped in and met his sword tip with my fist.
“……………………Huh?”
Right after that, there was a loud crash and the tip of the Evil Sword chipped off. Then immediately the Evil Sword shattered with cracking sounds.
The guy’s expression changed instantly.
“Hey, what the—”
“Sorry. There was one thing I forgot to mention.”
I kept a sweet smile on my face as I walked toward the shaken guy.
“The medicine I just drank is…”
I showed him the empty bottle and told him.
“Just an antidote.”
“…Huh?”
His eyes widened at those words.
He looked totally lost, like he had no idea what I was saying. I guess it’s no wonder he was shocked.
“You see, I had made a huge mistake.”
Yeah, it was a mistake. A trap I fell into because my goal was set too high.
“We ended up getting way too strong.”
“Huh?”
So we could contribute to Sai’s goal. Everything was for Sai.
We trained like our lives depended on it.
After training until we collapsed, we’d force our bodies awake with recovery medicine, collapse again, and bring ourselves back with more recovery medicine.
Thanks to what the organization calls “drug-soaked training” or “zombie training,” our magic power shot up dramatically.
As a result, we became too strong.
—So strong that Sai’s experiments weren’t even needed anymore.
That’s why we normally drink weakening medicine. To keep our bodies easy to experiment on.
That was my approach as a test subject.
“Alright, now the real experiment time starts.”
