Reincarnated as the Villain Who Experiments on Orphanage Kids – Why Are the Test Subject Girls Begging Me for "Night Experiments"? - Chapter 14
Chapter 14: The Organization Scheming in the Shadows and the Clueless Mad Scientist
In my previous life, I was doing insect experiments back in grad school. The main focus was on how insects perceive space.
For example, crickets move their antennae to sense objects around them. They can recognize space using a different sensory organ, not just vision.
Yeah, that kind of experiment.
It’s never gonna help with daily life, but once I started, there were way more interesting things than I expected.
So personally, I always figured I was the researcher type. Reborn as a mad scientist makes sense in a way.
But I’d never done any human experiments, obviously.
No one around me had experience, and anyway, it was straight-up illegal.
That meant there wasn’t even a professor who knew the details, so if someone suddenly told me to run a human experiment, I had no prior research to go on and had no clue where to start.
“Haa…”
So the next day, while I handled the usual orphanage stuff, my mind kept drifting back to the experiments.
I’d promised Priere last night that I’d do them, but I still had no idea what exactly I should do.
If there was prior research, I could just copy something similar, but of course there isn’t any.
And even if there was, whoever did it probably didn’t leave evidence behind since they’d get arrested.
In other words, I had to figure out the whole procedure for human experiments from scratch.
“Haa… I’m gonna lose it.”
I felt the craziness of being a mad scientist all over again.
A regular guy who just loves ramen couldn’t come up with anything inhumane even if he tried.
“Sai! What’s for dinner?”
“Hmm… we’ve got tons of veggies, so maybe pot-au-feu?”
I answered John’s question while doing the laundry.
Yeah, hanging out with the kids like this suits me way better than human experiments.
“Ehh, pot-au-feu? What about meat?”
“There’s basically no meat left because somebody used way too much yesterday. So none today, sorry.”
“Ehhhhhhhhhhhhh—”
Apparently Priere had cooked yesterday instead.
Breakfast was bread, lunch was bread, and dinner was bread plus some grilled chicken. Pretty bold menu.
The nutrition was totally unbalanced, and she’d used up all the chicken we had stocked, so we wouldn’t have any meat unless someone went shopping.
Priere must’ve really felt how tough running an orphanage is.
Balancing good nutrition, keeping the kids happy, and still being easy on the budget—that sounds simple but it’s really not.
“Oh yeah, the garlic looks about ready to harvest. Do you know where Rafal is?”
We grow a little vegetable garden in the yard at the orphanage. Not a huge variety, but we raise plenty of food depending on the season.
Rafal’s the one in charge of the whole garden. You need her okay to plant or harvest anything.
Thinking that, I asked John where she was…
“Rafal sis went somewhere after breakfast~”
“She went outside?”
“Yeah. She was wearing some black clothes.”
Black clothes? Don’t tell me it’s that ridiculous cloak from the SJO Squad?
“I see… Wonder what she’s plotting…”
“Priere sis went out with her too~”
“Both of them? What about Fioraia?”
“Fio sis is sleeping right over there, see?”
“Huh?”
I looked where John was pointing.
Sure enough, Fioraia was snoozing peacefully near the flowerbed where the garlic was planted.
Fast asleep even though she was outside. Same as always.
“Haa… guess I’ll carry her for now.”
If she rolled over she might crush the garlic, and then Rafal would get mad, so just to be safe I decided to move her.
I picked her up while she breathed softly in her sleep. She was heavier than she looked, but I carried her straight to her room anyway.
“Man, she really doesn’t wake up at all.”
Lately my sleep’s been getting lighter with age, so I honestly envied how deeply she could sleep. Waking up three times a night is stressful, y’know.
I laid her down on the bed and pulled the blanket over her.
But when I tried to leave the room, she’d latched onto me like I was her body pillow and wouldn’t let go, so I couldn’t move.
“She’s still such a handful, even now.”
I sighed, but a small wry smile crept onto my face.
I couldn’t picture doing human experiments on Fioraia at all, even though Priere was super eager about them.
“Still… what are those two up to?”
Leaving Fioraia here to watch the house and going out together—nothing but suspicious.
“…………………………”
Thinking about how the original story goes from here, I only feel uneasy.
I just hope they don’t stick their noses into anything extra…

[Side: Priere]
I got Sai to promise he’d do the experiments for me. I’m so happy I could almost jump around.
At the same time, a hot feeling welled up from deep inside my body.
Just imagining the moment Sai experiments on me makes happiness overflow.
“Priere, they’ve started moving.”
But reality is cruel. Today was supposed to be the day I offer my first time, yet of all days, it looks like Rebellion has made a move.
“Are they planning to release monsters into the city?”
“Yeah. Some slum kids saw them leading monsters they’re controlling.”
“Where?”
“In the back alleys near the church. Seems like they’ve hidden monsters in other key spots around town too. And they’ll probably carry out the plan tonight.”
“I see. This is something we can’t ignore.”
Up until now we’ve focused on growing the organization and training ourselves. We’ve never actually fought Rebellion out in the open.
But this time is different. The city itself will take damage, and in the worst case the orphanage kids could be affected too. We can’t just look the other way.
Besides…
“Should we show off our strength right before the human experiments?”
The other day we basically kidnapped Sai to prove our power, but I doubt he really understood how strong we are.
So we need to demonstrate it properly. This is a perfect chance.
“Alright, let’s get ready right away. Tonight will be the SJO Squad’s first battle.”
And that’s how we chose to fight Rebellion.
