Chapter 06: Making the Mother and Daughter Maids
Three months had flown by since I welcomed Liese and Maria into the Egrid estate.
Maria’s health had fully recovered, and Liese was no longer the frail, thin girl she once was. Now, she radiated vitality, looking like a healthy and vibrant young lady.
Both of them had seamlessly blended into the household, almost as if they’d always been part of it.
However, one morning after breakfast in the dining hall, Maria approached me with a serious expression and bowed deeply.
“Lord Cerios, it weighs on me to remain a guest in your home like this. Please, allow us to work here in the estate.”
Liese, seated at the table, hurried to mimic her mother’s bow.
“I feel the same as my mother! I… I want to be of help in any way I can!”
Hearing this, I set down my fork and looked at the two of them. It was true—continuing to treat them as “guests” might indeed feel uncomfortable for them at this point.
“You may want to work, but your health has only recently been fully restored. There’s no need to push yourselves.”
Maria, however, shook her head firmly, her expression resolute.
“Even so… I want to repay the kindness you’ve shown us. Please, at least let us do something like cleaning or laundry.”
Her determination made me pause for a moment. After thinking it over, an idea came to mind—to formally welcome them as employees of the estate.
“Very well. In that case, I will officially employ you both as maids of this estate. However, if you’re going to work, you’ll need to undergo proper training.”
Maria’s eyes widened in surprise, but she quickly bowed deeply.
“Thank you so much! I will do my best to meet your expectations!”
Liese, on the other hand, seemed a bit hesitant at first, but after a moment of determination, she nodded.
“I… I’ll do my best too! Please take care of me!”
That afternoon, I summoned Arnaud, the butler, and Faina, my personal maid. Faina, though young, was a capable maid who had been working at the Egrid estate for years. Among all the staff, she was the one who understood Cerios best.
“Faina, I have a new task for you.”
She nodded calmly, as always.
“At your service, Lord Cerios. What would you like me to do?”
“I’ve decided to officially hire Liese and Maria as maids. Specifically, I want you to train Liese as my personal maid. She’s close to my age, so I think it’s fitting.”
Faina’s eyes widened slightly in surprise, but her expression quickly turned serious again.
“Your personal maid? Understood. However, Lord Cerios, training will take time. Also… while Miss Liese seems to have potential, she is still very inexperienced.”
“That’s not an issue. That’s your job, isn’t it?”
At my firm response, Faina’s lips curved into a slight smile.
“As you wish, Lord Cerios.”
With Faina taking on the role of instructor, Liese’s training was in excellent hands. Her strict guidance would undoubtedly ensure that Liese mastered the skills needed to be a proper maid.
The next day marked the start of a new chapter for both Liese and Maria.
Under Faina’s supervision, Maria began learning basic tasks like cleaning and laundry. Meanwhile, Liese was receiving specialized training to become a personal maid.
Faina’s lessons were rigorous, and Liese struggled from day one.
“Liese, let me show you again. The plates should be arranged like this…”
“Y-Yes! Ah, I’m sorry…!”
From a corner of the hallway, I watched as Liese nearly dropped a plate, earning a stern correction from Faina.
“Is this all right, Lord Cerios?”
Arnaud asked quietly, standing beside me.
“It’s fine. She needs to learn these things on her own.”
Though I couldn’t help but feel a little concerned inside, I spoke nonetheless.
She was still so young. Considering the environment she came from, the strict expectations of life in this estate must have been overwhelming.
But seeing the determination in Liese’s expression, I found myself wanting to watch her grow through her efforts.
That evening, Liese prepared tea on her own for the first time and brought it to my office.
On a small tray, a teacup, pot, sugar cubes, and milk were neatly arranged. Her hands trembled slightly, but the effort she had put into the task was evident.
“Lord Cerios, I’ve brought your tea!”
Liese entered the room with a nervous expression, her grip on the tray slightly unsteady.
“Hmm. Put it there.”
She carefully set the tray down on the table. Her movements were still clumsy, but it was clear she was trying her best.
“So, how was your first day of work?”
“It was… very difficult. But Miss Faina explains everything so thoroughly, so I think I’ll be able to learn little by little!”
Her face reflected a mix of anxiety and hope. Seeing her earnest expression, I couldn’t help but smile faintly.
“I see. There’s no need to rush. Take your time. I’m not in a hurry for you to become perfect.”
“…Thank you so much! Um, Lord Cerios!”
“Yes?”
“I promise I’ll do my best to be of use to you!”
Her earnest determination, paired with her healthier appearance, made her look especially adorable.
“Alright, I’m looking forward to it.”
“Yes! Please feel free to ask me for anything! I’ll do whatever you say, Lord Cerios!”
Beaming, she bowed and left the room.
Hearing a beautiful girl say she’d do anything, it was hard not to have one’s mind wander to certain… inappropriate interpretations.
But for me, all I wanted was to live a peaceful life without being resented by her.
As I watched her retreating figure, I let out a quiet sigh.
