Chapter 48: Mob Rushes Into Action
I burst out of Charlotte’s room and ran full speed toward the rising smoke.
The area was already in chaos—some students were gathering to gawk at the scene, while others rushed past me in the opposite direction, clearly fleeing.
(What’s going on…!? There wasn’t supposed to be any kind of incident at the academy around this time…!)
Panic started to creep in—this was completely out of left field.
Pushing through the crowd of onlookers, I finally made it to the front—and froze in place.
(Wait, no way… That’s—!?)
What I saw was a monster in the shape of a man—towering, humanoid, and radiating an insane amount of magical energy. Two huge bull-like horns curved out from its head.
Surrounding it was a group of teachers, weapons and spells at the ready.
Leading them was none other than Brad Baker—the homeroom teacher of Class A and a major capture target in the game.
He was one of the strongest characters in the entire game… but the monster standing before him felt like something that no human could possibly handle.
(And this thing is…!)
I recognized the creature—this twisted, horned beast.
Of course, the only reason I knew it was from the game.
And if it was a boss-level enemy I remembered from the game, then someone like me—a nobody mob character—had absolutely no chance.
Still, I never imagined I’d come face-to-face with this kind of monster.
Cold sweat started dripping down my back.
[Master…? Do you know what that monster is…?]
Lana spoke up, her voice trembling with fear.
The same Lana who didn’t even flinch during our fight with Gilbert—or even against Charlotte—was now clearly terrified.
That alone told me how serious this was. She could instantly sense just how far out of our league this monster was.
(Yeah… this thing… it’s not supposed to be here. Not now, not in a place like this…)
“Fuhahaha… It’s been a while since I’ve set foot in the human world, and it’s gone soft, hasn’t it? I didn’t think getting here would be this easy!”
Even his voice was terrifying—deep, loud, and powerful enough to rattle my gut.
Just standing there, he radiated pressure that overwhelmed everyone nearby.
These students hadn’t gathered just out of curiosity… they were frozen, unable to run.
“I am the Demon God of War, Baldos! Now bring out the Priestess of Light! If you don’t, I’ll wipe out every last human in this place!”
Demon God of War, Baldos.
A major boss who only appeared near the end of the game.
He wasn’t some random encounter—this was the kind of monster you’d first meet in the final dungeon.
There was no universe where a thing like this should be showing up at an academy.
(H-Haha… He’s here to kill the Priestess of Light…? What the hell is going on!?)
If Jessica were killed here, sure, the story would completely fall apart—but so would humanity.
There was no official rule saying only the Priestess of Light could defeat him, but in the game, nobody besides the main characters stood a chance against this monster.
Even if this world had become real, expecting someone else to take him down was just wishful thinking.
(Lana… do you think we can beat this thing…?)
[B-Beat him…!? N-No way! He’s way beyond anything a human can handle!]
(Heh… So what, should we start praying to the gods then?)
[Well… I…]
Even if she didn’t know all the details, Lana clearly understood the situation.
If Jessica—the Priestess of Light—was killed here, it’d be game over.
(Honestly, saving her doesn’t sit right with me… but I can’t risk my family’s lives over personal grudges…)
“Haaah… Looks like time’s up. Fine then—all of you… die.”
In that moment, Baldos vanished.
I quickly gripped Lana, now in spirit sword form, and desperately scanned for his movement.
He was insanely fast—but not so fast I couldn’t see him at all.
“I can’t let you lay a finger on my student… not on Jessica.”
Brad drew a massive blade—something like an oversized katana.
He’d always been a dependable ally in the game, but now? I had no idea how well he could actually fight in real life.
I kept one eye on Brad’s movements as I broke into a run.
My role wasn’t to back him up—it was to find and protect Jessica.
We’d never trained together or practiced any kind of teamwork, so if I jumped into the fight, I’d only get in the way.
If that was the case, then heading straight for Jessica—the target of the enemy—was the smarter move.
(Lana!)
[Roger!]
She instantly understood what I needed and created a path beneath me—using her ice powers to form a rising platform.
I climbed to the top of the icy hill and scanned the entire academy grounds.
And there—some distance away—I spotted what I was looking for.
(Pink hair, confirmed! And that blond guy next to her must be Prince Alec… Wait, why am I thinking in Charlotte’s tone now?)
I let out a faint laugh, then leapt from the top of the ice mound Lana had made.
Without wasting a second, I dashed toward where I’d seen Jessica.
At full speed, a normal person would’ve been out of breath—but with my enhanced stats, this level of sprinting didn’t even faze me.
In no time at all, Jessica came into view.
(Alright…! She hasn’t been attacked yet—wait, that’s—!?)
Just as I felt a wave of relief, it happened.
A pitch-black magic circle suddenly appeared behind Jessica.
I couldn’t make out the exact patterns back in the game, but I recognized it instantly—it was a dimensional teleportation spell that only demons could use.
Which meant…
(Dammit—please let me make it in time!)
One last burst of speed.
Honestly, I wanted to give my legs a medal for how fast they moved in that moment.
With a sharp metallic clang, I intercepted the enemy’s attack just in time.
“My, my… I didn’t expect anyone to block my strike.”
“What the—You commoner!? And that thing…!?”
“What’s this mana…?”
Prince Alec and Jessica froze, visibly shaken by the sudden appearance of a new monster—one clearly different from Baldos.
And yeah, saving them didn’t exactly feel great.
Which is why, if I make it out of this fight alive… I’m officially starting my revenge arc on both of you.
(…Okay, that sounds like a death flag.)
[Death flag? What’s that supposed to mean? More importantly, focus on the enemy in front of you! This one’s seriously dangerous too!]
Even if it wasn’t on Baldos’s level, every one of my senses was screaming danger.
This thing was clearly stronger than me.
And I recognized it.
Just like Baldos, this guy also appeared throughout the game—but only became a real boss during the final dungeon.
“Mmm~! My name is Gelna. Not that you need to remember it, of course… since I’ll be killing every last one of you right here.”
Gelna gave a somewhat theatrical bow.
Sure, the creepy face was bad enough—but just standing across from this thing made my skin crawl. Must’ve been something about their very existence that brought out this kind of disgust.
“Now then… let the annihilation beg—!?”
Just as I braced myself, thinking Gelna was about to attack, their body was suddenly blown away, crashing into a nearby wall as a cloud of dust exploded into the air.
…Wait. Did they just get smashed?
The dust filled the area, blinding our vision, but I didn’t let my guard down.
About ten seconds later, as the air began to clear, I finally caught sight of someone standing there—and my eyes widened in disbelief.
“W-Why are you here…?”
The figure turned to me with a fearless smile.
Long, silky black hair swayed behind her as she spoke.
“Why? Well, with something this exciting going on, how could I not join in?”
Standing there was none other than…
The pervy cat I’d tied up and left behind—Charlotte.
